Download or read book Old Made New written by Greg Lanier and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greg Lanier Presents a Simple Method for Studying Old Testament Citations in the New Testament Many Bible readers have difficulty understanding the Old Testament's connection to the New Testament, and some even believe it's obsolete in light of God's new covenant. In reality, New Testament writers alluded to earlier books of the Bible roughly 300–400 times. The Old Testament isn't outdated; it's critical to understanding the rest of Scripture. In Old Made New, Greg Lanier explains how New Testament authors used the Old Testament to communicate the gospel and present the person and work of Jesus. He also explains what the Old Testament teaches Christians today about the church's identity and ethics. Writing for a broad range of readers, Lanier distills thorough research into simple, descriptive examples and tips. His 3-step method explains how to identify and explore an Old Testament passage and see how it's "remixed" in the New Testament to thoughtfully engage with Scripture. Book Synopsis Reciprocal Causality in an Event-Filled World by : Joseph A. Bracken, S.J.
Download or read book Reciprocal Causality in an Event-Filled World written by Joseph A. Bracken, S.J. and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-03-04 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the current sense of helplessness in dealing with environmental change and other urgent issues, a new world view is needed that emphasizes the unique contribution that individual citizens can make to the common good as opposed to their individual needs and desires. In a recent encyclical on the environment, Pope Francis set forth reasons from Scripture and Church teaching for this shift in perspective, but he did not provide a philosophically based foundation for this change of heart. To fill that gap, Joseph Bracken examines key writings of process-oriented philosophers like Henri Bergson and Alfred North Whitehead along with systems-oriented thinkers like Ludwig von Bertalanffy and Ervin Laszlo to create a systems-oriented understanding of the God-world relation.

Book Synopsis Systematic Theology by : Robert Letham
Download or read book Systematic Theology written by Robert Letham and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive systematic theology by respected theologian Robert Letham covers the whole field of Reformed Christian doctrine from biblical, historical, and theological angles. Letham begins with God's ultimate selfrevelation as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in indivisible union, continuing on with the works of God in creation, providence, and grace. He draws deeply from Scripture and important voices from the church to provide a clear and concise articulation of the Reformed faith. He also addresses current issues such as feminism, charismatic gifts, sexual ethics, environmentalism, other religions, the nature of truth, and civil liberties. Each chapter is followed by discussion questions, with a glossary of terms included at the end. This work grounds theological understanding and practice in the life and ministry of the church, accessible to pastors, students, scholars, and anyone who desires to understand, believe, and live scriptural doctrine more fully.

Book Synopsis Online Small Groups as Sites of Teaching by : Simon Hallonsten
Download or read book Online Small Groups as Sites of Teaching written by Simon Hallonsten and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-04-25 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centered around a reflective narrative recounting the experiences of a participatory action research project into leading online small groups for adults in the Church of Sweden Diocese of Stockholm during 2021 and 2022, the dissertation argues for the need to reconceptualize and reemphasize teaching as an important aspect in Christian religious education. Employing creative non-fiction methods, the dissertation aims to broaden the scope of the initial Online Small Groups project, by inviting readers to join into a "learning journey." The narrative account is complemented with more traditional forms of analysis that connect experiences from online small groups in the Church of Sweden to similar research from Anglo-Saxon countries, noting especially how notions of community diverge due to different ecclesiological understandings. Insights are then synthesized into eight teaching strategies aimed at communicating actionable knowledge to small group leaders, before noting how the study complements research on Christian religious education and, particularly, the current debate about learning and teaching in the Church of Sweden.
