Book Synopsis ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY -WITHOUT EQUATIONS by : CHETAN KATHALAY
Download or read book ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY -WITHOUT EQUATIONS written by CHETAN KATHALAY and published by CHETAN KATHALAY. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with practical concepts of Electromagnetic Compatibility testing and design. Given the scorching pace at which electronic gadgets are evolving, deadlines associated with product design are shrinking rapidly. In such a scenario, the designer obviously has no time to read mathematical theory. Keeping this fact in mind, the book explains only the practical aspects of EMC design without resorting to equations or mathematical derivations whatsoever. It has been designed in such a way that the designer can immediately incorporate EMC measures without worrying about the mathematics behind it. The book starts with EMC fundamentals, speaks about EMC standards and then goes on to explain various EMC test methodologies in detail. In the subsequent chapters, various design measures like filtering, shielding, grounding & bonding, PCB design and cable routing are discussed thoroughly. These measures will enable manufacturers to design a compliant product at the design stage itself thereby saving time and money that would otherwise be required for costly retrofits once the design is frozen.

Book Synopsis Power Supplies for LED Driving by : Steve Winder
Download or read book Power Supplies for LED Driving written by Steve Winder and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2016-12-28 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power Supplies for LED Driving, Second Edition explores the wide use of light-emitting diodes due to their efficient use of power. The applications for power LEDs include traffic lights, street lamps, automotive lighting, architectural lights, theatre lighting, household light replacements, signage lighting (replacing neon strip lights and fluorescent tubes), LCD display backlighting, and many more. Powering (driving) these LED's is not always simple. Linear driving is inefficient and generates far too much heat. With a switching supply, the main issues are EMI, efficiency, and of course cost. This book covers the design trade-offs involved in LED driving applications, from low-power, to UB-LEDs and beyond. - Provides a practical, hands-on approach to power supply design for LED drivers - Contains detailed examples of what works throughout the design process - Presents commentary on how the calculated component value compares with the actual value used, including a description of why the choice was made
Book Synopsis Mobile Virtual Synchronous Machine for Vehicle-to-Grid Applications by : Christopher Pelczar
Download or read book Mobile Virtual Synchronous Machine for Vehicle-to-Grid Applications written by Christopher Pelczar and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2012-03-23 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mobile VISMA is a power electronics device for V2G applications which behaves like an electromechanical synchronous machine and offers the same beneficial properties to the power network, increasing inertia in the system, stabilizing the grid voltage, and providing a short-circuit current in case of grid faults. The VISMA performs a real-time simulation of a synchronous machine and calculates the phase currents that an electromagnetic synchronous machine would produce under the same local grid conditions. These currents are fed into the grid using a current-controlled inverter. In this dissertation the requirements for a machine model suitable for the VISMA are set, and a mathematical model suitable for use in the VISMA algorithm is found and implemented. A new hardware architecture for the Mobile VISMA based on microcontroller and FPGA technologies is presented. The new architecture allows the reduction of the size and cost of the VISMA, making it suitable for installation in electric vehicles. A simulation model of the inverter hardware and hysteresis current controller is created and validated by experiment. The verified hardware model is then used to design a new type of PWM-based current controller. The performance of the hysteresis- and PWM-based current controllers is evaluated and compared. Finally, the behavior of the VISMA during power network faults is examined, and it is shown that the VISMA, inverter hardware, and current controllers are capable of fault ride-through and can support the power network during faults.

Book excerpt: Acclaimed biography of the pioneer of modern electrical theory featuring a new preface by author. "He was a man who often was incapable of conducting himself properly in the most elementary social interactions. His only continuing contacts with women were limited to his mother, nieces, and housekeepers. He was a man who knew the power of money and desired it, but refused to work for it, preferring to live off the sweat of his family and long-suffering friends, whom he often insulted even as they paid his bills."—Excerpt from the book This, then, was Oliver Heaviside, a pioneer of modern electrical theory. Born into a low social class of Victorian England, Heaviside made advances in mathematics by introducing the operational calculus; in physics, where he formulated the modern-day expressions of Maxwell's Laws of electromagnetism; and in electrical engineering, through his duplex equations. With a new preface by the author, this acclaimed biography will appeal to historians of technology and science, as well as to scientists and engineers who wish to learn more about this remarkable man.
Book Synopsis The Big Score by : Michael S. Malone
Download or read book The Big Score written by Michael S. Malone and published by Stripe Press. This book was released on 2021-07-20 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only contemporary history of the birth of Silicon Valley—from the reporter who had a ringside seat to it all Over the past five decades, the tech industry has grown into one of the most important sectors of the global economy, and Silicon Valley—replete with sprawling office parks, sky-high rents, and countless self-made millionaires—is home to many of its key players. But the origins of Silicon Valley and the tech sector are much humbler. At a time when tech companies’ influence continues to grow, The Big Score chronicles how they began. One of the first reporters on the tech industry beat at the San Jose Mercury-News, Michael S. Malone recounts the feverish efforts of young technologists and entrepreneurs to build something that would change the world—and score them a big payday. Starting with the birth of Hewlett-Packard in the 1930s, Malone illustrates how decades of technological innovation laid the foundation for the meteoric rise of the Valley in the 1970s. Drawing on exclusive, unvarnished interviews, Malone punctuates this history with incisive profiles of tech’s early luminaries—including Nobelist William Shockley and Apple’s Steve Jobs—when they were struggling entrepreneurs working 18-hour days in their garages. And he plunges us into the darker side of the Valley, where espionage, drugs, hellish working conditions, and shocking betrayals shaped the paths for winners and losers in a booming industry. A decades-long story with individual sacrifice, ingenuity, and big money at its core, The Big Score recounts the history of today's most dynamic sector through its upstart beginnings.
