Book Synopsis Waste Treatment Lagoons--state of the Art by : Ross E. McKinney
Download or read book Waste Treatment Lagoons--state of the Art written by Ross E. McKinney and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of published literature and field evaluations revealed the presence of over 3500 waste treatment lagoons currently in operation in the United States. The three types of lagoons in use include: Oxidation lagoons; Aerated lagoons; and Anaerobic lagoons. Oxidation lagoons depend upon algae to supply oxygen by photosynthesis and degrade the waste products. Effluent quality is determined by the quantity of algae in the effluent and several methods of algae removal are currently under investigation. Aerated lagoons may be merely oxidation ponds with supplemental aeration, partially mixed activated sludge (facultative aerated) or complete mix activated sludge (CMAS) systems. Anaerobic lagoons can provide up to 80% BOD removals, but must be followed by some type of aerobic treatment to produce a high quality effluent. The review has demonstrated that lagoons do have applicability to the total waste treatment problem.

Book Synopsis The Role of Sewage Lagoons at Corps of Engineers Recreation Areas by : Terry D. Hand
Download or read book The Role of Sewage Lagoons at Corps of Engineers Recreation Areas written by Terry D. Hand and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This survey report was prepared to assess the role of Corps of Engineers recreation area sewage lagoons in light of recent technology and current and future Corps problems and needs. A review of the literature was conducted to identify design, operation, and upgrading methods that may be applicable to the special loading problems and other circumstances characteristic of recreation area lagoons. Concurrently, a survey was conducted to establish the geographic distribution and the design and performance successes and failures of the more than 200 Corps recreation area lagoons nationwide. Steps are recommended for improving lagoon waste treatment at recreation areas based on current knowledge, and areas of needed research are identified. (Author).

Book Synopsis Sewage Treatment in Hot Climates by : David Duncan Mara
Download or read book Sewage Treatment in Hot Climates written by David Duncan Mara and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1976 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In warmer climates, sewage loses its content of dissolved oxygen more rapidly, causing it to become "stale" or "septic", necessitating the use of waste stabilization ponds. Waste stabilization ponds utilize environmentally-aware technology in treating the wastewater of communities in hot climates. This book covers waste stabilization ponds in detail, and examines wastewater management and treatment today.
