Book Synopsis The Field Researcher’s Handbook by : David J. Danelo
Download or read book The Field Researcher’s Handbook written by David J. Danelo and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-03 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field research—the collection of information outside a lab or workplace setting—requires skills and knowledge not typically taught in the classroom. Fieldwork demands exploratory inquisitiveness, empathy to encourage interviewees to trust the researcher, and sufficient aptitude to work professionally and return home safely. The Field Researcher’s Handbook provides a practical guide to planning and executing fieldwork and presenting the results. Based on his experience conducting field research in more than fifty countries and teaching others a holistic approach to field research, David J. Danelo introduces the skills new researchers will need in the field, including anthropology, travel logistics planning, body language recognition, interview preparation, storytelling, network development, and situational awareness. His time as a combat veteran in the US Marine Corps further enhances his knowledge of how to be observant and operate safely in any environment. Danelo also discusses ethical considerations and how to recognize personal biases. This handbook is intended for researchers in a variety of academic disciplines but also for government, think-tank, and private-sector researchers.
Download or read book Urban Poverty and Transport written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper reports the results of a survey of 5,000 households in the Greater Mumbai Region conducted in the winter of 2004. The goal of the survey was to better understand the demand for transport services by the poor, the factors affecting this demand, and the inter-linkages between transport decisions and other vital decisions such as where to live and work. This paper, the first of several research outputs, describes the salient facts about travel patterns in Mumbai for both poor and non-poor households. A striking finding of the survey is the extent to which all households-especially poor households-rely on walking. Overall, 44 percent of commuters in Mumbai walk to work. The proportion of the poor who walk to work is even higher-63 percent. Walking is an even higher modal share for nonwork than for work trips.

Book Synopsis Lessons Learned in Analytics from the COVID-19 Pandemic by : Eric S. Hall
Download or read book Lessons Learned in Analytics from the COVID-19 Pandemic written by Eric S. Hall and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-09-25 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the US in multiple waves, health systems had to rapidly develop systems for tracking various aspects related to managing the pandemic. This included not just overall trends in incidence, hospitalizations, and outcomes; but also metrics related to the response. COVID-19 was the first pandemic in the United States since the widespread adoption of electronic health records incentivized by the Meaningful Use program. As a result, the availability of health information was much broader than in any previous pandemic. The widespread impact of COVID-19 also meant that every healthcare institution was affected, and was tracking data related to the pandemic in some form. There has been more focused activity with data and analytics regarding COVID-19 than we have ever had with any other disease, including important advances as well as technical and regulatory obstacles.
