Los autores han extendido la temática abordada en esta obra al ámbito de la adolescencia. Se ha adaptado la clasificación de los trastornos de ansiedad a la última versión del DSM (DSM-IV-TR, 2000), si bien se han incorporado cuadros clínicos, como el trastorno mixto de ansiedad y depresión, que tienen una gran significación clínica en la infancia y en la adolescencia que no figuran en este sistema de clasificación. Se incluye un apartado específico dedicado al trastorno de estrés postraumático porque se cuenta con conocimientos de los que se carecía hace unos años. Asimismo, se facilitan algunos instrumentos de evaluación y una descripción del programa integral cognitivo-conductual de Kendall para el tratamiento de la ansiedad generalizada, y se hace una revisión de los tratamientos psicofarmacológicos actuales.
