This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a specific technical solution, called intermodal transport, which became the basic technological solution that made it possible to provide global interregional transport. Every day, new technical, technological, and organizational solutions appear that significantly affect the further development of this industry. However, there are certain local differences between regions. In addition, an essential factor is the exchange of experience between scientists from different countries. Accordingly, the purpose of this monothematic book is to acquaint readers with the achievements of scientists dealing with this topic and living in different regions. Scientists and specialists from Poland, Germany, Great Britain, USA, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, Italy, Kazakhstan, and Lithuania participated in the writing of individual chapters of this book. This book is intended for professionals, teachers, students, and others who are interested in new approaches to solving transport problems.

Book excerpt: In New Mobilities: Smart Planning for Emerging Transportation Technologies, transportation expert Todd Litman examines 12 emerging transportation modes and services that are likely to significantly affect our lives: bike- and carsharing, micro-mobilities, ridehailing and micro-transit, public transit innovations, telework, autonomous and electric vehicles, air taxis, mobility prioritization, and logistics management. Public policies around New Mobilities can either help create heaven, a well-planned transportation system that uses new technologies intelligently, or hell, a poorly planned transportation system that is overwhelmed by conflicting and costly, unhealthy, and inequitable modes. His expert analysis will help planners, local policymakers, and concerned citizens to make informed choices about the New Mobility revolution.

This book was released on 2013-06-18 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transformations in wireless connectivity and location-aware technologies hold the promise of bringing a sea-change in the way transportation information is generated and used in the future. Sensors in the transportation system, when integrated with those in other sectors (for example, energy, utility and health) have the potential to foster novel new ways of improving livability and sustainability. The end-result of these developments has been somewhat contradictory. Although automation in the transportation environment has become increasingly widespread, the level of involvement and active participation by people, in terms of co-creation and contribution of information, has also increased. As a result, the following two major trends have been observed: (1) increases in Machine-to- Machine (M2M) communications; and (2) increases in the variety and volume of User-Generated Content. In this transportation paradigm, the pervasive use of Information and Communication Technologies will serve as the foundation for mobility intelligence towards an “ubiquitous information-centered mobility environment”. However, many technical and operational questions, as well as social, management and legal challenges present themselves in the transformation to this vision. The book presents a non-technical review of research and initiatives and a discussion of such opportunities and challenges.
Book Synopsis Emerging Trends in Transportation Planning by : Andy Boenau
Download or read book Emerging Trends in Transportation Planning written by Andy Boenau and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2016-09-11 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walking and bicycling are the basic forms of travel. But modern methodologies for predicting future travel patterns, traffic congestion, parking demand, and funding priorities are based on assumptions that are incompatible with walking and bicycling. Transportation professionals face a critical dilemma: either go with the flow by prioritizing car traffic or protect human life even if it means inconveniencing car traffic. This book explores emerging trends, some of which cause vigorous debate because of the fundamental shift in transportation philosophy. It will inspire transportation professionals to challenge the status quo for the sake of the public’s well-being. Communities are eager for experts to embrace strategies that protect human life, and experts are often framed as out-of-touch for being slow to adapt to a community’s needs. There is hope. Transportation professionals have the tools and resources to improve public health and safety, restore the freedom to choose travel modes, and revitalize towns and cities. Their work has a profound impact on everyday American life. Read this book and take action. Be the 21st-century transportation planner known for unfaltering drive to restore life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
