Book excerpt: Ce mémoire pour la HDR s'intéresse aux comportements problématiques du consommateur dans une perspective des modèles à étapes, et ce, dans deux domaines : la santé (sédentarité et activité physique) et la finance (contrôle des dépenses et épargne) et au contrôle de ces comportements dans une approche persuasive éthique et responsable. II présente mon activité de recherche ainsi que ses prolongements. La première partie présente les limites de l'un des plus connus des modèles a étapes, le modèle transthéorique (MTT) et développe une extension de ce modèle applicable aux domaines non-addictifs. Elle présente aussi de nouvelles approches d'analyse de segmentation. La seconde partie développe les schémas d'apprentissage tels que la socialisation et le transfert intergénérationnel ainsi que les dispositifs marketing de modification comportementale (messages ultra-personnalisés a l'aide des technologies de représentation de soi, réseaux sociaux). Elle analyse l'efficacité, l'éthique et l'expérience ressentie aux hyperpersonnalisations sur intention de changer de comportement. La dernière partie intègre les prolongements directs de mes travaux et mon programme de recherches futures. Cela concerne en premier lieu l'analyse simultanée de multiples comportements problématiques du consommateur et de son bien-être financier et, en second lieu, l'utilisation des défis (challenge) sur les réseaux sociaux en promotion de la santé. Un nouvel ensemble de recherches sur l'éthique de l'utilisation des technologies persuasives d'hyperpersonnalisation est construit pour examiner dans cette perspective les expériences de soi virtuel dans la sphère marchande.

L'intérêt pour une consommation dite " responsable ", dans une perspective postmoderne caractérisée par une certaine crise de sens et le symbolisme dans les actes de consommation, est analysé dans sa contribution à la construction identitaire des consommateurs qui se disent " responsables ". Le thème de l'identité étant à la croisée de plusieurs disciplines, une revue de la littérature sur les travaux dans le champ de la consommation responsable et autour du concept de l'identité est d'abord présentée. Pour appréhender le sens que les consommateurs donnent à la consommation responsable, une voie épistémologique et méthodologique originale est proposée et explicitée : celle d'une démarche interprétative de " récits de vie ", issus de quarante entretiens individuels et soumis à une analyse structurale. Les résultats individuels et comparatifs permettent de préciser le sens que des consommateurs responsables donnent de leurs pratiques et d'entrevoir leurs dimensions identitaires. Une typologie de la consommation responsable en fonction du sens qui lui est donné par les narrateurs est suggérée ; elle distingue l'acte de conformité morale de l'acte critique, lui-même pouvant être exprimé comme une critique d'essence politique ou un acte libératoire. Ce travail doit permettre à la fois d'enrichir les théories en comportement du consommateur, de guider les entreprises se positionnant sur le marché des produits engagés et de mieux percevoir les motivations éthiques des consommateurs

But where does this requirement come from and what does it mean for us as individuals trying to do the right thing? Although climate change does untold harm to our fellow humans and to the non-human world, no one causes it on their own and it is not the result of intentionally collective action. In the face of the current failure of institutions to confront the problem, is there anything we can do as individuals that will leave us able to live with ourselves? This book responds to these challenges. It makes a moral case for collective action on climate change by appealing to moralized collective self-interest, collective ability to aid, and an expanded understanding of collective responsibility for harm. It also argues that collective action is something we owe to ourselves, as moral agents, because without it we are left facing marring choices. In the absence of collective action, individuals should focus on trying to promote such action (whether through or by bypassing existing institutions), with a supplementary duty to aid victims directly. The argument is not that we should not be cutting our own emissionsthis can be a vital part of bringing about collective action or alleviating harmbut that such `green lifestyle choices cannot straightforwardly be defended as duties in their own right, and should not take priority over trying to bring about collective change.

Baird Callicott counters the narrative of blame and despair that prevails in contemporary discussions of climate ethics and offers a fresh, more optimistic approach. Whereas other environmental ethicists limit themselves to what Callicott calls Rational Individualism in discussing the problem of climate change only to conclude that, essentially, there is little hope that anything will be done in the face of its "perfect moral storm" (in Stephen Gardiner's words), Callicott refuses to accept this view. Instead, he encourages us to look to the Earth itself, and consider the crisis on grander spatial and temporal scales, as we have failed to in the past. Callicott supports this theory by exploring and enhancing Aldo Leopold's faint sketch of an Earth ethic in "Some Fundamentals of Conservation in the Southwest," a seldom-studied text from the early days of environmental ethics that was written in 1923 but not published until 1979 after the environmental movement gathered strength.

Carbon pricing is necessary for an efficient transition toward decarbonization. It is an efficient way to raise revenue, which can be used to support poverty reduction or reduce other taxes. Policymakers need to adopt measures that trigger the required changes in investment patterns, behaviors, and technologies - and if carbon pricing is temporarily impossible, use these measures as a substitute. -Mind the political economy and smooth the transition for those who stand to be most affected. Reforms live or die based on the political economy. A climate policy package must be attractive to a majority of voters and avoid impacts that appear unfair or are concentrated on a region, sector or community. Reforms have to smooth the transition for those who stand to be affected, by protecting vulnerable people but also sometimes compensating powerful lobbies.
