Book Synopsis Fundamental Problems in Breast Cancer by : Alexander H.G. Paterson
Download or read book Fundamental Problems in Breast Cancer written by Alexander H.G. Paterson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this book are those presented at the Second International Symposium on Fundamental Problems in Breast Cancer held at Banff, Alberta, April 26-29, 1986. This is, therefore, the second volume in the series of symposia held in the Canadian Rockies. The aim of these symposia is to provide a supportive atmosphere for the development of new concepts as well as for the presentation of high quality scientific data. This is reflected in the chapters presented here. Many of the chapters put forward new hypotheses which will be tested in the clinic or laboratory in the next few years. In choosing the subjects for discourse, we preferred to tackle areas where controversy existed, and in this book we have grouped the chapters around discussion themes. The relative merits of mammography and physical examination in the detection of small lesions within the breast and the natural history of these lesions were important topics at the symposium, and the results of early detection studies will have a major effect on health care costs. We have devoted a large section of this book to this subject. The mechanism of growth and response of endocrine sensitive tumors and current concepts of the statistics and cost-benefit assessment of adjuvant chemotherapy trials comprise two other sections of the book where original and stimulating ideas were presented.
Book Synopsis Biomedical Photonics Handbook by : Tuan Vo-Dinh
Download or read book Biomedical Photonics Handbook written by Tuan Vo-Dinh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-03-26 with total page 1926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide variety of biomedical photonic technologies have been developed recently for clinical monitoring of early disease states; molecular diagnostics and imaging of physiological parameters; molecular and genetic biomarkers; and detection of the presence of pathological organisms or biochemical species of clinical importance. However, available information on this rapidly growing field is fragmented among a variety of journals and specialized books. Now researchers and medical practitioners have an authoritative and comprehensive source for the latest research and applications in biomedical photonics. Over 150 leading scientists, engineers, and physicians discuss state-of-the-art instrumentation, methods, and protocols in the Biomedical Photonics Handbook. Editor-in-Chief Tuan Vo-Dinh and an advisory board of distinguished scientists and medical experts ensure that each of the 65 chapters represents the latest and most accurate information currently available.

Book Synopsis Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology by : Giuseppe Palumbo
Download or read book Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology written by Giuseppe Palumbo and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of innovative light sources, fibre laser sources and light emitting diodes, is opening unexpected perspectives into optical techniques and is promising new exciting applications in the field of biomedicine. Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology aims to provide an overview of light sources, together with an extensive and authoritative description of the optical techniques in bio-medicine. This book is designed to give biomedical researchers a strong feel for the capability of physical approaches, promote new interdisciplinary interests and persuade more practitioners to take advantage of optical techniques. Current developments in a variety of optical techniques, including Near-Infra Red Spectroscopy, and traditional and advanced fluorescence techniques are covered, ranging from those that are becoming common practice to those that need much more experimentation before they can be accepted as real breakthroughs. Further topics include optical coherence tomography and its variations, polarised light imaging and, principle laser and lamp sources- a usually fragmentary topic, often dispersed among specialist publications. The wide range of topics covered make Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology of interest to a diverse range of scientific communities.
