Download or read book Offshore Pipelines written by Boyun Guo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-04-25 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore Pipelines covers the full scope of pipeline development from pipeline designing, installing, and testing to operating. It gathers the authors' experiences gained through years of designing, installing, testing, and operating submarine pipelines. The aim is to provide engineers and management personnel a guideline to achieve cost-effective management in their offshore and deepwater pipeline development and operations. The book is organized into three parts. Part I presents design practices used in developing submarine oil and gas pipelines and risers. Contents of this part include selection of pipe size, coating, and insulation. Part II provides guidelines for pipeline installations. It focuses on controlling bending stresses and pipe stability during laying pipelines. Part III deals with problems that occur during pipeline operations. Topics covered include pipeline testing and commissioning, flow assurance engineering, and pigging operations. This book is written primarily for new and experienced engineers and management personnel who work on oil and gas pipelines in offshore and deepwater. It can also be used as a reference for college students of undergraduate and graduate levels in Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.* Pipeline design engineers will learn how to design low-cost pipelines allowing long-term operability and safety.* Pipeline operation engineers and management personnel will learn how to operate their pipeline systems in a cost effective manner.* Deepwater pipelining is a new technology developed in the past ten years and growing quickly.

Book excerpt: Recent studies (Taitel and Dukler, 1976) have provided a method for predicting conditions for flow regime transitions by modelling the actual physical processes taking place. This work was concerned only with steady flow conditions. Of considerable importance to the analysis of a Loss of Cooling Accident is the ability to predict the flow regime under conditions of transient flow. This report extends the steady state method of analysis to that of transient flow. It is shown that under transient conditions the transitions between flow patterns can occur at flow rates different than that which will take place if the changes in flow rate were to take place infinitely slowly. Furthermore, for rapid changes in flow rates from one set of conditions to another, flow regimes can appear which would not be observed if the change were made slowly. The theory for flow regime changes under transient flow conditions is developed and methods for predicting the onset of transition under transients presented. Experimental confirmation of the theory is described.

Book Synopsis Mechanics of Oil and Gas Flow in Porous Media by : Dang Li
Download or read book Mechanics of Oil and Gas Flow in Porous Media written by Dang Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-17 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses various aspects of percolation mechanics. It starts with the driving forces and driving modes and then examines in detail the steady state percolation of single-phase incompressible fluids, percolation law of natural gas and percolation of non-Newtonian fluids. Progressing from simple to complex concepts, it also analyzes Darcy’s law, providing a basis for the study of reservoir engineering, oil recovery engineering and reservoir numerical simulation. It serves as a textbook for undergraduate students majoring in petroleum engineering, petroleum geology and groundwater engineering, and offers a valuable reference guide for graduate students, researchers and technical engineers engaged in oil and gas exploration and development.

Book Synopsis One-Dimensional Transient Flow in Pipelines Modelling and Simulation by : Abdelaziz Ghodhbani
Download or read book One-Dimensional Transient Flow in Pipelines Modelling and Simulation written by Abdelaziz Ghodhbani and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents numerical computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions for studying the effect of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) on evaluation of pressure waves in pipelines with cavitation. The authors develop a uniform one-dimensional model using coupled models. These models consider unsteady friction (UF), Poisson coupling, axial vibration (junction coupling), gas release and viscoelasticity. The authors consider two cases: elastic pipelines and viscoelastic (VE) pipelines. The book starts with a detailed literature review on the relevant methods for calculating transient fluid flow, followed by chapters that explain the mathematical development for calculations and the numerical steps for water hammer and transient cavitation. The concluding chapters present the results for the two pipeline cases. The book is presented in simple language intended for engineering students who want to understand CFD simulations for transient flow in pipelines. Equations are explained in simple steps for easy understanding, and concepts are illustrated with detailed diagrams. The information and the codes demonstrated in the book will equip readers with the knowledge to study hydraulic problems where transients are caused by pump starting, stopping and failure. Audience Engineering students and instructors studying hydraulics and computational fluid dynamics.
