Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is mainly devoted to the thermomechanical behavior of materials during solid-solid phase transformations. The physical mechanisms including diffusion, martensitic transformation and plasticity are described from material science point of view. The global behaviour is deduced from methods of classical as well as irreversible thermodynamics and continuum and micro mechanics. Mainly metals, both non ferrous and ferrous alloys but also geological problems are dealt with. Special attention is given to transformation induced plasticity and shape memory alloys. Three chapters are concerned with practical applications (heat treatment, smart structures, residual stresses).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Digital transformation will affect every company or organization sooner or later, regardless of the industry, country, or type of organization. In recent years, this impact has become disruptive, and there is an increasing need for companies to innovate their business models while using various emerging technologies. The key goals of this book are twofold. The first goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of digital transformation in business using various bibliometric indicators, while the second goal is to propose a synthesis of the potential directions and opportunities for future research agenda related to this field of research. The bibliometric analysis of the current state of knowledge published in the field of digital transformation in business over the last 20 years reveals the existence of four major thematic clusters: (1) the digital transformation process, (2) digital technologies, (3) the digital economy, and (4) digital disruption. Based on the content analysis of the most important articles that belonged to each cluster of topics, the book outlines several directions for future research. This makes it a useful resource for researchers interested in the field of digital transformation in business.

This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascicle is the thirteenth in the series of Level One publications of the excavations at Franchthi Cave and is the third and final installment of the report on the site's chipped stone industries. The objective of Catherine Perlès's study is to make sense of the chronology of the site in its economic, technological, and typological dimensions. All phases of the Neolithic are represented at Franchthi Cave. Rich with more than 3,000 reconstructed pieces, this study offers a representative and technical typology that is unequaled today. The first part of the analysis offers diagnostic elements to facilitate comparisons between the lithic sequence and surface dating and is more descriptive than interpretive. The second part is dedicated to a step-by-step analysis of the Franchthi material in a well-defined chrono-stratigraphical framework. The third and most interpretive portion of the study addresses itself more specifically to those who are interested in the socio-economic organizational problems of Neolithic societies. Excavations at Franchthi Cave, Greece—Thomas W. Jacobsen, editor, with Karen D. Vitelli

Book excerpt: This volume brings together a series of papers reflecting a number of lectures given at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in 2010-2012 in the frame of a seminar entitled La naissance des cités crétoises. Eight Cretan sites (Axos, Phaistos, Prinias, Karphi, Dreros, Azoria, Praisos, and Itanos), recently excavated or re-excavated, are considered in their regional and historical context in order to explore the origin and early development of the Greek city-state on the island.

Book excerpt: For as long as one can remember, the edifice of the neoclassical economic syn thesis has been under attack. Critiques have focused on the extreme unreality of the assumptions that underpin the Arrow-Debreu theorems of welfare economics. They have queried the excessive formalism of the edifice, and the lack of practical significance of many of the results. They have castigated the neoclassical synthesis for its internal incoherence (lacking an independent theory of capital, for example, one of the favorite topics of the Cambridge school), its lack of a dynamic element, its non-evolutionary character, its lack of any conception of "market process" and so the list could be continued (Blaug, 1997). Through all this, the neoclassi cal synthesis remains as strong as ever, impervious it seems to these or any other attacks. In this paper a different tack is taken. The neoclassical edifice is left alone, standing as a representation of what goes on in a certain kind ofeconomy- namely the economy wheregoods and services are producedand exchanged. The paper then introduces another kind of economy, namely an economy of productive entities called "resources"- that are needed to produce the economyofgoods and services.

Book excerpt: This book explores the main concepts that provide the basis for the creation and development of scientific knowledge. These concepts are called ‘mother ideas’. It also highlights the driving presence of stability in the accomplishment of all natural events, and details the creation and evolutionary mechanisms and phenomena that follow, both individually and collectively. As the book shows, primary observations serve to describe various ways in which natural objects behave generally. Its initial analysis of complex mechanisms leads to the phenomenon of consciousness being introduced. Elementary notions such as the “me”, affects, beauty and art are then redefined and detailed. The book ends with a brief comparison between the implications for knowledge and the action and use of the Darwinian and stability principles.
