Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop a theory for the existence of perfect matchings in hypergraphs under quite general conditions. Informally speaking, the obstructions to perfect matchings are geometric, and are of two distinct types: `space barriers' from convex geometry, and `divisibility barriers' from arithmetic lattice-based constructions. To formulate precise results, they introduce the setting of simplicial complexes with minimum degree sequences, which is a generalisation of the usual minimum degree condition. They determine the essentially best possible minimum degree sequence for finding an almost perfect matching. Furthermore, their main result establishes the stability property: under the same degree assumption, if there is no perfect matching then there must be a space or divisibility barrier. This allows the use of the stability method in proving exact results. Besides recovering previous results, the authors apply our theory to the solution of two open problems on hypergraph packings: the minimum degree threshold for packing tetrahedra in -graphs, and Fischer's conjecture on a multipartite form of the Hajnal-Szemerédi Theorem. Here they prove the exact result for tetrahedra and the asymptotic result for Fischer's conjecture; since the exact result for the latter is technical they defer it to a subsequent paper.

Examining the lives and work of ‘untouchable’ women in a village in Tamilnadu, the author explores the recently articulated critique of feminism that race, caste, and class may be more important factors than gender in a p

The ISC is an annual conference that is held in virtual mode until COVID restrictions on travel exist. The vision of the conference is to capacitate Academia with the necessary ideas that provide insights of the grassroot level development to various stakeholders of the Niti-Aayog policies. Towards this goal, the conference creates a conjunction of various stakeholders of Niti-Aayog policies that include- academic institutions, government bodies, policy makers and industry. The ISC organizers make concerted efforts to promote academic research that would technological, scientific, management & business practices, and insights into policy merits & disruptions. The framework of exchange of ideas is geared towards adoption of deep technologies, fundamental sciences & engineering, energy research, energy policies, advances in medicine & related case studies. This framework enables the round table discussions between the academia, industry and policy makers through its range of plenary and keynote speakers.

Book excerpt: General Editor: Peter Calow, Department of Zoology, University of Sheffield, England The main aim of this series will be to illustrate and to explain the way organisms 'make a living' in nature. At the heart of this - their Junctional biology - is the way organisms acquire and then make use of resources in metabolism, movement, growth, reproduction, and so on. These processes will form the fundamental framework of all the books in the series. Each book will concentrate on a particular taxon (species, family, class or even phylum) and will bring together information on the form, physiology, ecology and evolutionary biology of the group. The aim will be not only to describe how organisms work, but also to consider why they have come to work in that way. By concentrating on taxa which are well known, it is hoped that the series will not only illustrate the success of selection, but also show the constraints imposed upon it by the physiological, morphological and developmental limitations of the groups. Another important feature of the series will be its organismic orientation. Each book will emphasize the importance of functional integration in the day-to-day lives and the evolution of organisms. This is crucial since, though it may be true that organisms can be considered as collections of gene determined traits, they nevertheless interact with their environment as integrated wholes and it is in this context that individual traits have been subjected to natural selection and have evolved.

Book excerpt: This book contains original research papers presented at the International Conference on Mathematical Modelling, Applied Analysis and Computation, held at JECRC University, Jaipur, India, on 6-8 July, 2018. Organized into 20 chapters, the book focuses on theoretical and applied aspects of various types of mathematical modelling such as equations of various types, fuzzy mathematical models, automata, Petri nets and bond graphs for systems of dynamic nature and the usage of numerical techniques in handling modern problems of science, engineering and finance. It covers the applications of mathematical modelling in physics, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, social science and finance. A wide variety of dynamical systems like deterministic, stochastic, continuous, discrete or hybrid, with respect to time, are discussed in the book. It provides the mathematical modelling of various problems arising in science and engineering, and also new efficient numerical approaches for solving linear and nonlinear problems and rigorous mathematical theories, which can be used to analyze a different kind of mathematical models. The conference was aimed at fostering cooperation among students and researchers in areas of applied analysis, engineering and computation with the deliberations to inculcate new research ideas in their relevant fields. This volume will provide a comprehensive introduction to recent theories and applications of mathematical modelling and numerical simulation, which will be a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers of mathematical modelling and industrial mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of rules adopted at the EU level are not issued by democratically elected institutions, but rather by administrative bodies which are empowered to exercise rule-making powers by legislative acts. This book analyses the legal mechanism through which these powers are conferred on the most relevant bodies in the EU institutional landscape, namely the European Commission, the Council, the ECB and EU agencies, and the democratic controls in place to limit and oversee the exercise of these powers. Providing an overarching perspective of the delegation of powers, this book reflects on the notion of delegation and on the commonalities between the different forms of delegation identified. It focuses on the legal requirements and limits for the delegating act, the procedures for the exercise of such powers, the position of the acts in the hierarchy of norms, and their judicial review. Overcoming the fragmentation which characterized the development of the different forms of delegation in the EU, this analysis provides a clear, structured, and coherent picture of the legal framework for the delegation of powers in the light of the constitutional principles of this legal system. Academics and practitioners will equally appreciate this highly accessible addition to the current debate in legal scholarship of the delegation of powers in the EU, as well as its explanations on comitology and the empowerment of EU agencies.
