Book Synopsis The Transfer Market by : Alan Gernon
Download or read book The Transfer Market written by Alan Gernon and published by . This book was released on 2018-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost as much is written in the soccer media about transfers as about the game itself. Records are smashed and billions spent each transfer window, but how does the transfer market work? How does a transfer come together? How do you become an agent, and what do they actually do? And what are the effects of a move on the main stakeholders? For years, transfer gossip columns have been Alan Gernon's guilty pleasure. Now, he explores how many of these rumors are accurate, planted by agents, or simply made up--and how easy is it to plant a transfer story in the media. Along the way, he discovers how the market works and how a transfer happens; what a move actually means for a typical player in a world where you could buy over 160,000 League Two players for the price of Neymar; and that almost 30% of transferred players worldwide are moved between clubs against their wishes. He also uncovers how to become a soccer agent overnight, and why British players are reluctant to move abroad. He speaks to players about the pressures and real-life effects of a move, and tries to figure out how much the stars of yesteryear would be worth in today's crazy transfer market--where Premier League clubs spent a record £1.4 billion in the summer of 2017 alone.
Book Synopsis Football's Secret Trade by : Alex Duff
Download or read book Football's Secret Trade written by Alex Duff and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A no-holds-barred exposé on the financial transactions of the world's favourite sport The transfer fees clubs pay to sign top players now top €4 billion a year but much of the money has been flowing out of the game. A small group of wealthy investors including Russian oligarchs, English racehorse owners and a former billionaire gold miner have seized the opportunity to enter this booming market. Some have moved in on the territory of banks and lent money to clubs in exchange for a share in fees generated by Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and dozens more of today's stars. Others have acquired obscure teams to get a piece of the pie. Even as the global financial crisis sent fortunes tumbling this select group found a profitable place to park their money. The size of the transfer market has continued to rise –- it increased seven-fold in value the last two decades, more than the FTSE share index. Between them, these wealthy investors have amassed hundreds of millions of euros in profits. At the same time, they have managed to stay out of the spotlight the world’s most popular sport brings. Football’s Secret Trade follows the money along a trail very few know about, from nondescript offices in the U.K. and ramshackle stadiums of South American clubs you have probably never heard of to offshore bank accounts in the Caribbean. Warning – you won’t see a major transfer deal in the same light again.

Book excerpt: Transfer Window is a utopian vision of the wealthy suburbs north of Copenhagen as a luxurious hospice. Everyone wears white. New-age nuns grow organic cannabis on the beach. The internet and music are forbidden, but you can swim in the icy sea in the winter. In amongst it all come the crushing memories of life as a terminal cancer patient, otherwise our narrator and her friend Mikkel hang out, talking about the 80s and about how they would prefer to die. They also laugh at the mistakes of the healthy.

Book Synopsis Farm Policies And World Markets: Monitoring And Disciplining The International Trade Impacts Of Agricultural Policies by : Timothy Josling
Download or read book Farm Policies And World Markets: Monitoring And Disciplining The International Trade Impacts Of Agricultural Policies written by Timothy Josling and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the book is to provide interested readers with access to a number of articles that have been written over the years on the subject of the linkages between domestic farm policies (particularly in developed countries) and world markets for agricultural goods. The scope of the book includes the measurement of protection and the estimation of transfers to agricultural producers, the effect of these policies on consumers and the consequent impact on international trade. A major theme is that the monitoring of the trade and transfer implications of farm policies is an essential first step to addressing the need for internationally agreed disciplines on their nature and extent. The topic of trade impacts of farm policies has become important in two different market situations. When agricultural commodity prices are depressed, attention turns to the activities of countries (particularly developed countries) that support the income of their own farmers but at the expense of farmers in other countries. When prices rise, as they have done in the last five years, the question is reversed: what is the impact of the farm and food policies that restrict exports to keep domestic prices low on food security in other countries? Thus, the narrative of the monitoring of farm policies by international organizations such as the OECD and the disciplining of such policies under the rules of the WTO is as relevant today as in the 1970s when the first efforts in this direction were made.
