Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the theory of infinite-order linear and nonlinear differential operators with several real arguments and their applications to problems of partial differential equations and numerical analysis.Part I develops the theory of pseudodifferential operators with real analytic symbols, the local representatives of which are linear differential operators of infinite order acting in the spaces of basic and generalized functions based on the duality of the spaces of real analytic functions and functionals. Applications to a variety of problems of PDEs and numerical analysis are given. Part II is devoted to the theory of Sobolev-Orlicz spaces of infinite order and the solvability of nonlinear partial differential equations with arbitrary nonlinearities.

Book Synopsis Limit Theorems for Functionals of Random Walks by : A. N. Borodin
Download or read book Limit Theorems for Functionals of Random Walks written by A. N. Borodin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines traditional problems in the theory of random walks: limit theorems for additive and multiadditive functionals defined on a random walk. Although the problems are traditional, the methods presented here are new. The book is intended for experts in probability theory and its applications, as well as for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in these areas.

Book Synopsis Functions on Manifolds: Algebraic and Topological Aspects by : Vladimir Vasilʹevich Sharko
Download or read book Functions on Manifolds: Algebraic and Topological Aspects written by Vladimir Vasilʹevich Sharko and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph covers in a unified manner new results on smooth functions on manifolds. A major topic is Morse and Bott functions with a minimal number of singularities on manifolds of dimension greater than five. Sharko computes obstructions to deformation of one Morse function into another on a simply connected manifold. In addition, a method is developed for constructing minimal chain complexes and homotopical systems in the sense of Whitehead. This leads to conditions under which Morse functions on non-simply-connected manifolds exist. Sharko also describes new homotopical invariants of manifolds, which are used to substantially improve the Morse inequalities. The conditions guaranteeing the existence of minimal round Morse functions are discussed.

Book Synopsis Centenary of the Borel Conjecture by : Marion Scheepers
Download or read book Centenary of the Borel Conjecture written by Marion Scheepers and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borel's Conjecture entered the mathematics arena in 1919 as an innocuous remark about sets of real numbers in the context of a new covering property introduced by Émile Borel. In the 100 years since, this conjecture has led to a remarkably rich adventure of discovery in mathematics, producing independent results and the discovery of countable support iterated forcing, developments in infinitary game theory, deep connections with infinitary Ramsey Theory, and significant impact on the study of topological groups and topological covering properties. The papers in this volume present a broad introduction to the frontiers of research that has been spurred on by Borel's 1919 conjecture and identify fundamental unanswered research problems in the field. Philosophers of science and historians of mathematics can glean from this collection some of the typical trends in the discovery, innovation, and development of mathematical theories.

Book Synopsis Spectral Methods in Infinite-Dimensional Analysis by : Yu.M. Berezansky

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 983 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian edition of this book appeared 5 years ago. Since that time, many results have been improved upon and new approaches to the problems investigated in the book have appeared. But the greatest surprise for us was to discover that there exists a large group of mathematicians working in the area of the so-called White Noise Analysis which is closely connected with the essential part of our book, namely, with the theory of generalized functions of infinitely many variables. The first papers dealing with White Noise Analysis were written by T. Hida in Japan in 1975. Later, this analysis was devel oped intensively in Japan, Germany, U.S.A., Taipei, and in other places. The related problems of infinite-dimensional analysis have been studied in Kiev since 1967, and the theory of generalized functions of infinitely many variables has been in vestigated since 1973. However, due to the political system in the U.S.S.R., contact be tween Ukrainian and foreign mathematicians was impossible for a long period of time. This is why, to our great regret, only at the end of 1988 did one of the authors meet L. Streit who told him about the existence of White Noise Analysis. And it become clear that many results in these two theories coincide and that, in fact, there exists a single theory and not two distinct ones.
