Book excerpt: Tom Harlan brings his Oath of Empire series to a shattering conclusion in The Dark Lord. In what would be the 7th Century AD in our history, the Roman Empire still stands, supported by the twin pillars of the Legions and Thaumaturges of Rome. The Emperor of the West, the Augustus Galen Atreus, came to the aid of the Emperor of the East, the Avtokrator Heraclius, in his war with the Sassanad Emperor of Persia. But despite early victories, that war has not gone well, and now Rome is hard-pressed. Constantinople has fallen before the dark sorceries of the Lord Dahak and his legions of the living and dead. Now the new Emperor of Persia marches on Egypt, and if he takes that ancient nation, Rome will be starved and defeated. But there is a faint glimmer of hope. The Emperor Galen's brother Maxian is a great sorcerer, perhaps the equal of Dahak, lord of the seven serpents. He is now firmly allied with his Imperial brother and Rome. And though they are caught tight in the Dark Lord's net of sorcery, Queen Zoe of Palmyra and Lord Mohammed have not relinquished their souls to evil. Powerful, complex, engrossing --Thomas Harlan's Oath of Empire series has taken fantasy readers by storm. The first three volumes, The Shadow of Ararat, The Gate of Fire, and The Storm of Heaven have been universally praised. But what happens when a sad young girl starts her teen years with the death of grandmother while falling in love for the first time with the wrong boy. From there on her teenage years become the worst years of her life. In such a short amount of time she experiences what feels like a lifetime of heartache, something a teenage girl shouldn't experience. Happiness is replaced with despair. Love is replaced with hate. Looking in a mirror became too hard to stomach. All her pain was channeled into anger. Anger that left physical and emotional scars. But that same anger created these beautiful words. These words were left untouched, but finally fine tuned by that same girl now in her twenties.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book aims to inspire the reader to trust completely in God and His promises and to never give up no matter the circumstances one is going through. Through personal testimony, the author is honoring God for His faithfulness through the many trials and tribulations that he has been and continues to go through. The book is therapeutic and has an internal purpose, as it helps the reader (and certainly the author) to heal from past wounds (by mourning previous loss, communicating frustrations, and expressing feelings). It also helps to maintain hope that one can go through trials and tribulations by focusing on the positive things of life and growing in faith, moving on and believing in GodaEUR(tm)s promises no matter the circumstances one is in. The book notes that people who suffer immensely are chosen people who God wants to use and that the severity of the suffering to the individual can be equated to the extent to which God wants to use that individual. The writer, reflecting on his life, makes it clear that pain and suffering are guaranteed but that one can go through it all if one puts his/her trust completely in the Lord. The book is intended for every reader, and it is envisaged that it will especially appeal to many who are going through pain and suffering of whatever kind and severity and are looking for solutions in a godly way. Because the book is written in a very personal way, it is likely to touch the hearts of many.

Book excerpt: In writing this book I felt a need to explain how important it is that one knows himself/herself while growing up in life which as you can see I didn't. That inner feeling that I kept getting was the enemy trying to put me in a position I could never come out of. It controlled me during most of my life. There were always signs pointing to the right choices to make but when you are caught up in what you feel is the success of your life, you never pay attention to those signs, you go with the flow of the moment. Twilight Nights has a second part to it that will explain in detail that recognition of signs and how to respond to them so you are aware of who is leading you. It shouldn't take a life time to here your calling unless you've been transformed into one that has become a part of this world. Thank God he let me know I was not apart of this world just in this world and that's what saved me. This book is a very interesting read and for those that just like entertainment you will get a thrill out of this book but for those looking for something else there is a message in this message that only the spirit of God can reveal. The word of God says we fight against principalities and wicked spirits in high places. Learn to know God so you can stand against the wiles of the enemy and his Spirit will guide you into his truth. ENJOY

Sunil "Sunny" Darsan seems to have been born into the idyllic family but all he wants to do is escape. His family's legacy is impressive: a grandfather who is a rags to riches icon and owner of the largest plantation in Trinidad and his parents who are the first Trinidadian couple to graduate as lawyers. This is a family that seems to have it all - wealth, power and a renowned family name. However, like all families, this one has its secrets. When Sunny's parents divorce and his grandfather dies, his father, Vijay, is left the plantation. Vijay's natural instincts come out as he shirks his paternal duties and pursues his major interests: womanizing and gambling. Sunny's mother struggles to keep him and his sister, Leila, clothed and fed while their father gambles and parties. Unfortunately, she can only protect them from so much and when Sunny and Leila visit their father at the plantation for a holiday, it's the end of their innocence. Sunny finds himself on a path of discovery of a painful secret that will affect him and his sister for the rest of their lives. Amidst the challenges of his childhood and emerging manhood, Sunny tries to survive, desperately searching for an avenue of escape from the dysfunction that is his life. Trials and Tribulations offers a window into life on the tropical island of Trinidad from the suburbs of Port of Spain to the cocoa plantations of the countryside, in addition to murder, deceit, adultery as well as racial tensions, all from the perspective an Indo-Trinidadian youth during the mid to late twentieth century.

Book excerpt: Trouble is a book for the ages because trouble is an age-old reality that is visible in the life of every prominent Bible character. Trouble is also a present-day problem that plagues the life of people everywhere, from every walk of life. Trouble has also been prophesied by Jesus, is permitted by the Father, and is purposed to perform a great work in the life and character of the child of God. This book should be a part of every pastoral, ministerial, personal and public library. Trouble should also be required reading for every theology student, and encouraged reading for every new believer in Christ Jesus. The teachings of Trouble will be an extremely helpful asset to Sunday school and new members' class curriculum as preachers and teachers endeavor to, "make disciples" of men and women of every nation, in every part of the world. Regardless of the level of Christian maturity, Trouble provides tremendous understanding of the challenges of Christian living, and will prove to be an extremely valuable tool that will help prevent believers from stumbling and falling away when they encounter "tribulations or persecutions because of the Word" (Matthew 13:21). Trouble will also aid Christians in enduring and overcoming their trouble, reestablishing their trust in God, and getting back on track with their relationship with their Christ and King!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been many political dilemmas that impose structural constraints on the effort to legalize, judicialize, and criminalize normatively deviant behavior in international politics. The annual costs of these tribunals has peaked at approximately $400 million, of which $140 million is allocated to the ICC, the latter now having spent $1 billion in its first decade of existence. What has been the track record of these international criminal courts with jurisdiction to try heads of states and leading official and military officers? Has the domestic political will of states increased to prosecute their own leaders, following the ICC’s complimentary jurisdiction? How have powerful states supported these courts and how have they undermined them? In succeeding in punishing a number of high-profile cases, the tribunals arguably constitute what Habermas called communicative action that expresses the aspirations and nascent norms of international society. Beyond the confines of a specific of international cooperation, these courts are increasingly becoming norm entrepreneurs, defining the norms of coexistence among states, such that internal atrocities are seen not only as international crimes, but threats to the stability and order of international society. These courts are also redefining the attributes of what states must practice to preserve their reputations, a breach of which will prove increasingly costly. The tribunals are increasingly incentivizing and mobilizing informational networks from NGOs, IGOs, and states to document and publicize violations of international criminal law, thereby increasing exposure risks of perpetration. To be sure the patchwork of compliance and norm communication is fraught with double standards, hypocrisy, selective enforcement, and neoimperial delegitimation of the subaltern. Still, what has begun as institutions created in the absence of humanitarian action by the powerful may come to constitute normal state attributes similar to sovereignty, whose violation will be seen as not only illegitimate, but also meriting humanitarian action to correct and punish such behavior. The question remains whether ongoing impunity of both the powerful and the powerless will undermine or limit this potential.

Book excerpt: The Trials and Tribulations of a ZIPRA Soldier is a riveting spider web story of courage, determination, pursuit of justice and survival against all odds. The reader is taken on a path of unparalleled heroism and determination of a young Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) soldier, Churchill Mpiyesizwe Guduza. Churchill was born in Johannesburg to a Rhodesian father, Makhathini Bhekisizwe Guduza and Amy Poppy Lottering, a South African. After attending Fatima Secondary School in Rhodesia, with his father in continued political detention and his mother merely scrapping a living in the rural hinterlands of Rhodesia, he was compelled to leave for Johannesburg in early 1973 where his already shaped political consciousness led him to participate in the June 1976 Soweto student uprisings. At just under 20 years of age, Churchill escaped South Africa to join ZIPRA in Zambia, just in time before the apartheid net rapidly closed in on him. No sooner had Churchill joined ZIPRA than he experienced similar injustices which he immediately opposed with resolute bravery. Upon completion of military training in Angola, he was immediately deployed to the battlefields of Rhodesia where his unit gallantly fought against the Rhodesian security forces. Churchill's nom de guerre was Taffy Carlos. From Rhodesia, Churchill returned to Zambia to face off ZIPRA's High Command, from where he fled to Angola. After his incarceration in Angola, he returned to independent Zimbabwe, from where he again escaped to the United Kingdom via Botswana and Zambia. Today, he leads the Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF), which seeks to EXIT Zimbabwe, and establish the Federal Republic of Mthwakazi.
