Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unique survey displaying the power of Riccati equations to describe reversible and irreversible processes in physics and, in particular, quantum physics. Quantum mechanics is supposedly linear, invariant under time-reversal, conserving energy and, in contrast to classical theories, essentially based on the use of complex quantities. However, on a macroscopic level, processes apparently obey nonlinear irreversible evolution equations and dissipate energy. The Riccati equation, a nonlinear equation that can be linearized, has the potential to link these two worlds when applied to complex quantities. The nonlinearity can provide information about the phase-amplitude correlations of the complex quantities that cannot be obtained from the linearized form. As revealed in this wide ranging treatment, Riccati equations can also be found in many diverse fields of physics from Bose-Einstein-condensates to cosmology. The book will appeal to graduate students and theoretical physicists interested in a consistent mathematical description of physical laws.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eurythmic physics is a general science which seeks to contribute to the unification of the wider field of physics in order to promote understanding of a clearer view of nature. This book develops the fundamental aspects of this approach, tracing how it assumes that, because physical phenomena are not linear in reality, they must be discussed from a nonlinear, interrelated, and complex perspective.
Book Synopsis Interplay of Quantum Mechanics and Nonlinearity by : V. M. (Nitant) Kenkre
Download or read book Interplay of Quantum Mechanics and Nonlinearity written by V. M. (Nitant) Kenkre and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-26 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth study of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLSE), with particular emphasis on spatially small systems that permit analytic solutions. In many quantum systems of contemporary interest, the DNLSE arises as a result of approximate descriptions despite the fundamental linearity of quantum mechanics. Such scenarios, exemplified by polaron physics and Bose-Einstein condensation, provide application areas for the theoretical tools developed in this text. The book begins with an introduction of the DNLSE illustrated with the dimer, development of fundamental analytic tools such as elliptic functions, and the resulting insights into experiment that they allow. Subsequently, the interplay of the initial quantum phase with nonlinearity is studied, leading to novel phenomena with observable implications in fields such as fluorescence depolarization of stick dimers, followed by analysis of more complex and/or larger systems. Specific examples analyzed in the book include the nondegenerate nonlinear dimer, nonlinear trapping, rotational polarons, and the nonadiabatic nonlinear dimer. Phenomena treated include strong carrier-phonon interactions and Bose-Einstein condensation. This book is aimed at researchers and advanced graduate students, with chapter summaries and problems to test the reader’s understanding, along with an extensive bibliography. The book will be essential reading for researchers in condensed matter and low-temperature atomic physics, as well as any scientist who wants fascinating insights into the role of nonlinearity in quantum physics.
Book Synopsis The Nonlinear Quantum Field Theory as a Generalization of Standard Model (geometrical Approach) by : Alexander G. Kyriakos
Download or read book The Nonlinear Quantum Field Theory as a Generalization of Standard Model (geometrical Approach) written by Alexander G. Kyriakos and published by AKVY PRESS. This book was released on 2009 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author proposes a special nonlinear quantum field theory. In a linear approximation, this theory can be presented in the form of the Standard Model (SM) theory. The richer physical structure of this nonlinear theory makes it possible to exceed the limits of SM and remove its known incompleteness. We show that nonlinearity of the field is critical for the appearance of charges and masses of elementary particles, for confinement of quarks, and many other effects, whose description within the framework of SM causes difficulties. In this case, the mechanism of generation of masses is mathematically similar to Higgs's mechanism, but it is considerably simpler and does not include the additional particles. The proposed theory does not examine the theory of gravity, but reveals the mathematical similarity of the nonlinear field equations of both theories. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students studying the theory of elementary particles, as well as for specialists working in this field.

Book Synopsis Probing The Structure Of Quantum Mechanics: Nonlinearity, Nonlocality, Computation And Axiomatics by : Diederik Aerts
Download or read book Probing The Structure Of Quantum Mechanics: Nonlinearity, Nonlocality, Computation And Axiomatics written by Diederik Aerts and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-06-11 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decade, scientists working in quantum theory have been engaging in promising new fields such as quantum computation and quantum information processing, and have also been reflecting on the possibilities of nonlinear behavior on the quantum level. These are challenging undertakings because (1) they will result in new solutions to important technical and practical problems that were unsolvable by the classical approaches (for example, quantum computers can calculate problems that are intractable if one uses classical computers); and (2) they open up new 'hard' problems of a fundamental nature that touch the foundation of quantum theory itself (for example, the contradiction between locality and nonlinearity and the interpretation of quantum computing as a universal process). In this book, one can distinguish two main streams of research to approach the just-mentioned problem field: (1) a theoretical structural part, which concentrates on the elaboration of a nonlinear quantum mechanics and the fundamentals of quantum computation; and (2) a theoretical experimental part, which focuses on the theoretical aspects of applications that arise from new technology and novel research perspectives such as quantum optics and quantum cryptography. Particular attention is also paid to the measurement problem, the classical limit and alternative interpretations (such as the hidden measurement approach).
Book Synopsis Emerging Frontiers in Nonlinear Science by : Panayotis G. Kevrekidis
Download or read book Emerging Frontiers in Nonlinear Science written by Panayotis G. Kevrekidis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the impact of nonlinearity on a broad range of areas, including time-honored fields such as biology, geometry, and topology, but also modern ones such as quantum mechanics, networks, metamaterials and artificial intelligence. The concept of nonlinearity is a universal feature in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, and is used to characterize systems whose behavior does not amount to a superposition of simple building blocks, but rather features complex and often chaotic patterns and phenomena. Each chapter of the book features a synopsis that not only recaps the recent progress in each field but also charts the challenges that lie ahead. This interdisciplinary book presents contributions from a diverse group of experts from various fields to provide an overview of each field’s past, present and future. It will appeal to both beginners and seasoned researchers in nonlinear science, numerous areas of physics (optics, quantum physics, biophysics), and applied mathematics (ODEs, PDEs, dynamical systems, machine learning) as well as engineering.

Book Synopsis Dialogues on Quantum Physics by : J. R. Croca
Download or read book Dialogues on Quantum Physics written by J. R. Croca and published by . This book was released on 2014-10 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The old paradigm of linear quantum mechanics is worn out. It is therefore urgent to replace it with a new approach, one which accepts a reality independent from the observer and which solves the paradoxes and enigmas that popular theories continue to stimulate. This book, in a language accessible not only to scholars but to everyone, exposes the insufficiencies of the orthodox and dominant linear quantum physics, and also demonstrates that time has come to bet on a new quantum physics, a causal and nonlinear physics, which for the time being is heterodox.
