This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Clinical experiences are integral to the education process in many professions. Professional socialization is one area of students' development enhanced by clinical experience. Professional socialization includes learning in the affective domain by experiencing moral, ethical and legal practice as well as developing confidence in students' clinical practice. This study examined the role of clinical experience for professional socialization in Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited athletic training education programs. This was done by examining entry-level athletic trainers' perceptions of the importance of four common clinical experiences in the development of selected affective domain educational competencies. These experiences were peer practice, approved clinical instructor (ACI) instruction, practice coverage and game coverage. The affective domain competencies were chosen because they included aspects of professional socialization such as role identity and moral ethical and legal practice of athletic training. A quantitative, researcher developed, web based survey was designed and used to collect perception data from newly certified athletic trainers who had graduated from a CAAHEP accredited athletic training education program. While all four common clinical experiences were reported as important to subject mastery of the competencies, ACI instruction and practice coverage were reported to be more important than both peer practice and game coverage. These results are important to athletic training educators as they try to develop the best possible combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience to better prepare future generations of confident and successful practicing athletic trainers."--Abstract from author supplied metadata.

Some scholars assert that African American Studies use a well-defined common approach in examining history, politics, and the family in the same way as scholars in the disciplines of economics, sociology, and political science. Other scholars consider African American Studies multidisciplinary, a field somewhat comparable to the field of education in which scholars employ a variety of disciplinary lenses-be they anthropological, psychological, historical, etc., --to study the African world experience. In this model the boundaries between traditional disciplines are accepted, and researches in African American Studies simply conduct discipline based an analysis of particular topics. Finally, another group of scholars insists that African American Studies is interdisciplinary, an enterprise that generates distinctive analyses by combining perspectives from d

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although women and girls participate in sport in greater numbers than ever before, research shows there has been no significant increase in women leading sport organizations. This book takes an international, evidence-based perspective in examining women in sport leadership and offers future directions for improving gender equity. With contributions from leading international sport scholars and practitioners, it explores the opportunities and challenges women face while exercising leadership in sport organizations and evaluates leadership development practices. While positional leadership is crucial, this book argues that some women may choose to exercise leadership in non-positional ways, challenging readers to consider their personal values and passions. The chapters not only discuss key topics such as gender bias, intersectionality, quotas, networking, mentoring and sponsoring, but also present a variety of strategies to develop and support the next generation of women leaders in sport. A new model of how to achieve gender equity in sport leadership is also introduced. Women in Sport Leadership: Research and Practice for Change is important reading for all students, scholars, leaders, administrators, and coaches with an interest in sport business, policy and management, as well as women’s sport and gender studies.

Key aspects of the Handbook include: an inventory of the principal achievements in the field; a guide to the chief conflicts and difficulties in the theory and research process; a rallying point for researchers who are established or new to the field, which sets the agenda for future developments; a resource book for teachers who wish to establish new curricula and develop courses and programmes in the area of sports studies.
