Download or read book Tovrea Castle written by Donna J. Reiner and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than 80 years, the remarkable, wedding cake-like structure located on the eastern fringe of Phoenix has intrigued residents and visitors alike. Perched on a granite promontory, Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights reflects the dreams of several people. Alessio Carraro started construction in 1929, but the Depression spoiled his dream of a magnificent resort. E. A. Tovrea purchased the property in 1931 but died soon thereafter. Tovrea's widow, Della, after marrying William Plato Stuart in 1936, moved back and forth between the castle and Prescott, depending on the weather. When Stuart died in 1960, Della lived in the castle until her death in 1969. For many years after her death, the castle stood lonely and neglected, and it held its mystique because few people were ever invited inside. In 1993, the castle and surrounding acreage were acquired by the City of Phoenix for a new purpose: transformation into a city park.

Book Synopsis Masters of True Crime by : R. Barri Flowers
Download or read book Masters of True Crime written by R. Barri Flowers and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2012-07-24 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning murder cases from the beginning of the twentieth century to today, this is a must-read for fans of true crime and will also be compelling to mystery and thriller readers. The contributors include Harold Schechter, Katherine Ramsland, Carol Anne Davis, Burl Barer, and other leading writers in this genre. In February 1975, nine-year-old Marcia Trimble left her house in Nashville to deliver Girl Scout cookies in the neighborhood. She never returned. After a massive but fruitless search, her body was discovered on Easter Sunday. Outrage and horror gripped the community of Nashville, but the murder investigation was frustrated at every turn. The case went cold for three decades until it was finally solved. In January 1997, Herbert Blitzstein was found murdered in the living room of his Las Vegas townhouse. A notorious mob insider, "Fat Herbie" had pursued loan sharking and other rackets for decades. Now, Blitzstein had been dispatched gangland style—by three bullets to the back of the head—in what appeared to be a classic contract killing. But the details of who killed him and why turned out to be much more complicated, and the real motives and circumstances remain murky to this day. These are just two examples of the riveting stories assembled in this unparalleled collection of some of the top true-crime writers in the world. Each of the seventeen contributors draws on his or her own strengths, backgrounds, interests, and research skills to describe in a vivid narrative not only the facts of each notorious case but also the terrible emotions and macabre circumstances surrounding the crimes.

Download or read book Feedlots, Ranches, and Ropin written by El Jefe and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this book are 40 years of working in the livestock industry. I ve been involved in just about every phase of the cattle industry with working in feedlots, on ranches, and even 16 months in a large packing house. Along with this is a lifetime of rodeoing and jackpot ropins. The stories told here are short snippets of the day-to-day work and the people we worked for. I tried to maintain the vocabulary and the flavor of the day, so I hope the reader finds some entertainment here. I sure had fun writing it. A lot of the stuff here deals with the great cowboys and cowgirls I ve crossed paths with... without them I wouldn t have anything to say. Enjoy!
