Book excerpt: This study assesses progress in the implementation of the nutrition-sensitive interventions of the fourth phase of Ethiopia’s Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP-4) and its impact on: (1) the pathways underpinning children’s nutritional status; and (2) the roles it plays in reducing the malign effect of seasonality on the nutritional status of women and pre-school children. The analysis is based on four rounds of household survey data, conducted in March and August 2017 (baseline) and March and August 2019 (endline). These surveys focused on households with a child less than 24 months of age (index child) and his/her mother (index mother). In 2017 and 2019, the survey teams visited more than 2,500 households in 264 kebeles in 88 PSNP woredas in the Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, and Tigray regions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Watch a video Watch a Fox News segment on The Longevity Project. This landmark study--which Dr. Andrew Weil calls "a remarkable achievement with surprising conclusions"--upends the advice we have been told about how to live to a healthy old age. We have been told that the key to longevity involves obsessing over what we eat, how much we stress, and how fast we run. Based on the most extensive study of longevity ever conducted, The Longevity Project exposes what really impacts our lifespan-including friends, family, personality, and work. Gathering new information and using modern statistics to study participants across eight decades, Dr. Howard Friedman and Dr. Leslie Martin bust myths about achieving health and long life. For example, people do not die from working long hours at a challenging job- many who worked the hardest lived the longest. Getting and staying married is not the magic ticket to long life, especially if you're a woman. And it's not the happy-go-lucky ones who thrive-it's the prudent and persistent who flourish through the years. With questionnaires that help you determine where you are heading on the longevity spectrum and advice about how to stay healthy, this book changes the conversation about living a long, healthy life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game of My Life New York Mets, now newly updated, takes a personal look inside the biggest moments of the Mets’ greatest and most beloved players, from journeymen to superstars. Their most unforgettable games paint a picture of Mets history, as the franchise morphed from a dismal (though lovable) expansion team in 1962 to World Series Champions in 1969 and 1986 and then back to basement dwellers before meeting the Yankees in the 2000 Subway Series, and the Royals in a surprise appearance in the 2015 World Series. Fan favorite Ron Swoboda recounts making “The Catch.” Infielder Wally Backman relives the many thrills of playing on the ’86 Mets as they marched to a championship. All-Star Edgardo Alfonzo describes going six-for-six, including three home runs, in one of the most dominating offensive games in baseball history. Right-hander Bobby Jones recalls pitching the most dominating postseason game in Mets history, when he threw a one-hit shutout to clinch the 2000 National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants. Current ace Jacob deGrom recounts his gritty series-clinching performance against the Dodgers in Game Five of the NLDS. Journalist Michael Garry, a lifelong Mets fan, also includes stories about Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, and David Wright, among others.

Book excerpt: Adequate nutrition is crucial for normal child growth and it is important, yet challenging, to define the best nutrition for healthy and active children as well as for those who suffer from acute or chronic disease, considering the varying needs of different age groups. As in past issues, in the present volume of the Nutrition and Growth Yearbook, leading international specialists in nutrition and growth have selected the most interesting studies from peer-reviewed journals published between July 2020 and June 2021, and offer their comments on these manuscripts. This publication provides a significant contribution to the interaction between nutrition and growth as a major issue for growing children, their parents, and the medical teams taking care of them throughout the neonatal period, infancy, childhood, and adolescence.

Thoroughly revised and updated, the new edition brings multi-faceted expertise to the topic of normal and dysfunctional food intake, juxtaposing "normal" eating, eating in environments of food scarcity, and the phenomenon of "abnormal" eating prevalent in many modern-day developed societies. Eating disorders are not a focus, but also emerge from, this approach. Key features include: A new expanded section considering the roles of business and government in creating and potentially solving the issue of "abnormal" eating Learning objectives, talking points, and end-of-chapter glossaries Chapter-by-chapter self-assessment questions. With questions of food production, food choice, and environmental sustainability becoming more critical in an increasingly populated world, this is crucial reading for undergraduate courses in Psychology and other disciplines with a holistic and critical thinking approach to the psychology of food intake.
