Book excerpt: Everyone has secrets. Even best friends. Swirling black descends like ravens, large enough to block the glow of the streetlights. A dull roar starts like a train on the 'L', a far-away rumbling that grows louder as it pulls closer, until it's directly overhead and you feel it in your chest, except this doesn't pass you by. Verity, white-faced and eyes blazing, shouts through the din, "Run, Mo!" Mo Fitzgerald knows about secrets. But when she witnesses her best friend's murder, she discovers Verity was hiding things she never could have guessed. To find the answers she needs and the vengeance she craves, Mo--quiet, ordinary, unmagical Mo--will have to enter a world of raw magic and shifting alliances. And she'll have to choose between two very different, equally dangerous guys--protective, duty-bound Colin and brash, mysterious Luc. One wants to save her, one wants to claim her. Which would you choose? "Who doesn't love a character torn between two dangerous worlds and two risky guys? The only thing safe about this book is how good it is." --Lee Nichols, author of Deception, A Haunting Emma Novel "Dark, exciting and totally addictive! Book Synopsis Complex Pleasure by : Stanley Corngold
Download or read book Complex Pleasure written by Stanley Corngold and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex Pleasure deals with questions of literary feeling in eight major German writersLessing, Kant, Hölderlin, Nietzsche, Musil, Kafka, Trakl, and Benjamin. On the basis of close readings of these authors Stanley Corngold makes vivid the following ideas: that where there is literature there is complex pleasure; that this pleasure is complex because it involves the impression of a disclosure; that this thought is foremost in the minds of a number of canonical writers; that important literary works in the German traditionfiction, poetry, critiquecan be illuminated through their treatment of literary feeling; and, finally, that the conceptual terms for these forms of feeling continually vary. The types of feeling treated in Complex Pleasure include wit (the startling perception of likeness) and the disinterested pleasure of aesthetic judgment; Hölderlins swift conceptual grasp, in which the tempo of the process of thought is stressed; artistic imagination, mood, sadistic enjoyment, rapturous distraction, homonymic dissonance, and courage as a mode of literary experience. At the same time, through the deftness, range, and surprise of its execution, the book itself conveys complex pleasure. The reader will also find fascinating, hitherto untranslated material by Nietzsche (On Moods) and Kafka (important sections from his journals and from his unfinished novel The Boy Who Sank Out of Sight).

Book Synopsis Desperate Situation by : Kyle Ripton
Download or read book Desperate Situation written by Kyle Ripton and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on actual events, Casey plots to murder her husband, a soldier, for more than insurance money with the help of family. Fighting for his life, Thomas battles the relentless hatred of not only a black widow woman, but also a hidden family of black widows. What other hidden secrets could be lye inside the belly of the beast? Action packed, this story, based on actual events will make it all too difficult to put this book down aside from turning your stomach upside down over its remarkable content. For generations, women have been depicted as a delicate flower, incapable of equaling a mans strong, secure, outer structure a womans desires. Fast forwarding into the modern age, the feminist movement have campaigned for reforms on issues such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, women's suffrage, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, all of which fall under the label of feminism. Now pushing for financial, social and cultural inequalities, men are still being subjected to the already well-known power women have had and harnessed for centuries. Over these centuries women have still maintained their focus on women's reproductive rights. Short of what this project is all about. I am focusing this campaign on what effects a mans outer glass shell, broken repeatedly as a result of unseen, unheard, or ignored pleas for equivalent laws that dramatically effect what happens to the male during divorce, domestic violence, abandonment of the male figure, and affecting the very core of his inner soul. As times change, little do the laws or the acknowledgement of men who are now coming forward with their own stories of sexual, verbal, emotional, and in many cases physical abuse by women, who remain the innocent ones. At the present time we are in post-production of the full-feature film based off this novel. Published in 2012, I feel this would be another amazing speaking point to those around the world who choose a visual experience over reading.

Book excerpt: Running with my pants down is a perfect metaphor for the life of one Logan Hunter. Emotionally scarred by the faith forced on him by the traditions of his wildly dysfunctional Catholic-centric family, Logan sets out to blaze his own trail. After a young marriage that everyone knew was doomed to failure, he moves on at a breakneck pace to drink in all that life has to offer, literally and figuratively. His life becomes ruled by the three Bs: business, bed-hopping, and booze. Somewhere along the way, he meets Misty, the sex kitten; Kat, the young, unpredictable one; Liz, the cougar with a voracious appetite for younger men; Champagne Washington, the sultry nightclub singer; Connie and Amanda, the gorgeous, sophisticated, and carnally experimental women who give him a night hell never forget; The Wild ThingsDelta Sue, Kitten, and Lola; and the always-intoxicating Spanish beauty, Carmen. Could there be more? In an ironic twist of fate, Logans best friend, Eddie, starts down an unexpected, life-altering path that begins to mirror Logans. Neither could predict just how a couple of chance meetings would change the game for each of them.

Download or read book Factfulness written by Hans Rosling and published by . This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population lives in poverty, why the world's population is increasing, how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanze choosing answers at random will consistently outguess teachers, journalists, investment bankers, and Nobel laureates. [Here] ... Hans Rosling - together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola - offers a radical new exploration of why thsi happens. They reveal the ten instincts that divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse)."--Jacket.
