Download or read book Tomoe-nage written by Danny Hicks and published by Fighting Films. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Tomoe-nage, six of the world’s leading exponents of the technique give a remarkable insight into their unique variations. Tomoe-nage is the Tokui-waza of Great Britain’s 2005 World Champion Craig Fallon. Learn how Fallon took the progress of the technique to a new level, developing numerous set-ups, entries and combinations. Fallon is joined by Germany’s Udo Quellmalz, who found that a classical Tomoe-nage was the perfect way of transitioning into his deadly array of pins and submissions. Japan’s Toshihiko Koga combined his ferocious Ippon-seoi-nage with Tomoe-nage by using the exact same inside shoulder grip. Mark Huizinga of the Netherlands reveals three different types of Tomoe-nage, all of which are initiated from a traditional sleeve and lapel grip. Tomoe-nage can work in combination with a number of different techniques. France’s Ugo Legrand shows how his Uchi-mata – Ko-soto-gari twitch can trigger Tomoe-nage, alongside Mongolia’s Tsagaanbaatar Khashbaatar who uses Ko-uchi-gari as his preferred entry into Tomoe-nage. The book finishes with Fallon, whose double tomoe-nage combination and his fast transition into Juji-gatame are not to be missed. Throwing descriptions and tuition are accompanied by incredible photographic sequences, with the key technical moments highlighted. Many of the images are shown for the first time and come from Fighting Films’ vast photograph archive. Fighting Films has been closely working alongside the world’s greatest judoka for over 30 years. Throwing for Ippon is the first project where all of this international technical expertise is compiled in one place. Presented by Superstar Judo, Fighting Films’ online coaching subscription site, the techniques can also be viewed in video format by clicking on a QR code at either the start or end of each book. The author is Fighting Films partner Danny Hicks, who was IJF TV Director from 2009-2017. This guide is an essential for all judoka. Whether you just want to learn the basics of a throw or be inspired by numerous different variations from the world’s best, Throwing for Ippon reveals the techniques that are proven to work at the very highest level.

Book excerpt: Instructor Supplemental - GŌJŪ-RYŪ KARATEDŌ 剛柔流空手道 Desk Reference 参考書: Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概說 (Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要) Karatedō History Overview by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿 - A Modern Translation Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概説 - by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿 Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要 GŌJŪ-RYŪ KARATEDŌ 剛柔流空手道 Desk Reference 参考書 We are fortunate to have resources that allow us to investigate historic manuscripts while assisting various agencies to catalog their documents. We examine these historic manuscripts to hear stories lost or untold. The 1934 edition of “Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概説” by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿, known also as “Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要” is rare considering the majority of the recipients lost their personal belongings during and after the 2nd World War. The document contains a valuable glimpse into the thoughts and writings of Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 prior to the battle for Okinawa. The variations from the 1934 edition to the 1936 edition are minor however readers should note that the style (Gōjū-Ryū Karate-dō 剛柔流空手道) was still in one of many well-planned stages of development and under closer examination such becomes clear with both the minor revision in history and the technical syllabus as indicated by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順. Due to the age and deterioration of the original artifact, we turned to the supplementary published modern print versions of his (Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順) publication to verify the Kanji inscribed from the publications by: · 1976 - Nagamine Shoshin 長嶺将真, 史実と伝統を守る沖縄の空手道 (Okinawan Karate-Dō that Preserves Historical Facts and Traditions). (The life and drama of the man Meitoku). In addition, the term Tō-te 唐手 (Tō-de) has been modernized to “Karate” as agreed upon by members of the Dai Nippon Butokukai Okinawa Chapter 大日本武徳会 沖縄県支部審議員Okinawa division, then chaired by Miyagi Chōjun宮城長順. Readers should understand that the term “Tō-te 唐手 (Tō-de)” was merely a popular vernacular of the era and was not intended to sugguest that Okinawa martial arts had originated in China. This was also collaborated by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 in the October 1936 “Karatedō Zaidan-kai 空手道座談会 (Karate symposium),” and further supported by Okinawa prefectural researchers. China based martial arts were however excellent resources for training and research due to the country’s vast population and border proximity which encompassed a multitude of various styles from which to draw inspiration. And finally, the text and context of this manuscript by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 is dated. In other words, people (in Okinawa and Japan) simply do not speak in the manner as written in the essay any longer. In our modern times, much of the terminology then used is now depreciated or, the rhythm of speech is considered ancient. For this reason, we have included italicized text for the clarification of framework.

Book Synopsis Judo Formal Techniques by : Donn F. Draeger
Download or read book Judo Formal Techniques written by Donn F. Draeger and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2019-06-21 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judo Formal Techniques is "The most detailed explanation of Judo that has ever been published" (The Japan Times). A comprehensive training manual to the basic "free practice" forms of Kodokan Judo (the Randori no Kata), the book provides essential instruction in the throwing and grappling kata (Nage no Kata and Katame no Kata) that every Judo practitioner needs to master. The authors are two of the world's top instructors--Donn F. Draeger and Tadao Otaki. Both were instructors at the Kodokan Judo Institute in Tokyo--the headquarters of international Judo, which was founded by the creator of the martial art, Jigoro Kano. Draeger, considered by many to be the first non-Japanese Budo master, was an authority on Asian martial culture who held high ranks and teaching licenses in several martial arts. He was a prolific writer and was the first non-Japanese Judo instructor at the Kodokan. Otaki was not only a successful Judo instructor but also a university professor who was widely praised for his research on the role of Judo in education. Draeger and Otaki based their text on Jigoro Kano's published and unpublished personal writings. Recapturing the original spirit and intent of the essential Judo kata, they are presented in the standard Kodokan versions as refined by generations of practitioners. Richly illustrated with over 1,000 photos and drawings, Judo Formal Techniques offers complete step-by-step instructions for the roles of both training partners. In addition to the core techniques of throwing and grappling, it explains the important transitional movements as well as grips, stances, and postures. First introduced as an Olympic sport at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Judo is returning to its home city on the world stage at the 2020 Olympics. Practiced by more than 20 million people worldwide, Judo is only expected to continue growing in popularity. A new foreword by Judo instructor Neil Ohlenkamp sheds light on the book's lasting importance as the classic "Kata bible" for Judo students and instructors alike and an indispensable resource for all martial arts practitioners.
