Book excerpt: “If you’ve been looking for something different to level up your health, fitness, and personal growth, this is it.”—Melissa Urban, Whole30 CEO and New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Boundaries “Michael Easter’s genius is that he puts data around the edges of what we intuitively believe. His work has inspired many to change their lives for the better.”—Dr. Peter Attia, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Outlive Discover the evolutionary mind and body benefits of living at the edges of your comfort zone and reconnecting with the wild—from the author of Scarcity Brain, coming in September! In many ways, we’re more comfortable than ever before. But could our sheltered, temperature-controlled, overfed, underchallenged lives actually be the leading cause of many our most urgent physical and mental health issues? In this gripping investigation, award-winning journalist Michael Easter seeks out off-the-grid visionaries, disruptive genius researchers, and mind-body conditioning trailblazers who are unlocking the life-enhancing secrets of a counterintuitive solution: discomfort. Easter’s journey to understand our evolutionary need to be challenged takes him to meet the NBA’s top exercise scientist, who uses an ancient Japanese practice to build championship athletes; to the mystical country of Bhutan, where an Oxford economist and Buddhist leader are showing the world what death can teach us about happiness; to the outdoor lab of a young neuroscientist who’s found that nature tests our physical and mental endurance in ways that expand creativity while taming burnout and anxiety; to the remote Alaskan backcountry on a demanding thirty-three-day hunting expedition to experience the rewilding secrets of one of the last rugged places on Earth; and more. Along the way, Easter uncovers a blueprint for leveraging the power of discomfort that will dramatically improve our health and happiness, and perhaps even help us understand what it means to be human. The Comfort Crisis is a bold call to break out of your comfort zone and explore the wild within yourself.

Book excerpt: In Jaime Lee Moyer's A Barricade in Hell, Delia Martin has been gifted (or some would say cursed) with the ability to peer across to the other side. Since childhood, her constant companions have been ghosts. She used her powers and the help of those ghosts to defeat a twisted serial killer terrorizing her beloved San Francisco. Now it's 1917—the threshold of a modern age—and Delia lives a peaceful life with Police Captain Gabe Ryan. That peace shatters when a strange young girl starts haunting their lives and threatens Gabe. Delia tries to discover what this ghost wants as she becomes entangled in the mystery surrounding a charismatic evangelist who preaches pacifism and an end to war. But as young people begin to disappear, and audiences display a loyalty and fervor not attributable to simple persuasion, that message of peace reveals a hidden dark side. As Delia discovers the truth, she faces a choice—take a terrible risk to save her city, or chance losing everything? Best known for his portrayal of the affable, introspective Army surgeon, Captain B.J. Hunnicutt on the television classic M*A*S*H 4077th, Farrell has long proven himself to be more than just an actor. Beyond the screen, his life unfolds like an epic tale of passion, determination, and an unyielding commitment to making the world a better place. In this eBook, we venture beyond the cameras and into Farrell’s extraordinary personal journey. Leaving the comforts of Hollywood, he straddled his trusty two-wheeler and ventured into the wide world. From the dusty roads of Africa to the bustling streets of Southeast Asia, Farrell’s travels were more than a simple escape. They were a mission, fueled by a deep-seated passion for political and human rights causes. For decades, Farrell has used his fame as a platform to speak out against injustice, fight for the marginalized, and promote peace. He has worked tirelessly, not just to entertain, but to enlighten, and, above all, to effect change. His travels on his motorcycle were not a celebrity’s whim, but rather a conduit for empathy, a means to connect with communities. This eBook is a homage to Farrell’s life off-screen. It encapsulates his journey from Hollywood’s glitz and glamor to the rugged terrains he’s traversed on his motorbike, and, more importantly, his ceaseless fight for justice and equality. For Mike Farrell, the world is a stage, and he’s played his part with an unfaltering commitment to truth, courage, and the cause of human rights. So, hop on, hold tight, and prepare yourself for an incredible ride through the life of a remarkable man. We hope you’re ready. Mike Farrell’s world-changing journey awaits you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunting: Youve Got to Be Kidding! is my narrative of reaching a major milestone as a hunter. This documentation of my pursuit contains spiritual, financial, emotional, and sometimes humorous excerpts of my hunting career. Why do I hunt? Im pressed for an answer to this question daily because my lifes passion is on public display. Trophys Steakhouse, which Becky and I own, provides an atmosphere of exuberance and a forum to promote hunting. Museum would describe Trophys much closer than steak house, as the restaurant is enriched with the rewards of twenty years of successful trophy collection. Our customers are both hunters and nonhunters who appreciate the hunting theme and dont require an answer to the question. Invariably, I must provide a detailed explanation to a select few as to why I havent changed from a hunter-gatherer to the modern rendition of a man. My respect for wild animals complicates my answer. Our genetic engineering by God places us as masters of animal and plant life, both of whom are alive and function to nourish us. Therefore, my answer is because I am pursuing a bred-in instinct to hunt and gather as our ancestors did for a millennium. I am proud to have this genetic makeup. I continue to preserve Gods creatures by being part of the hunting community. Hunters generously contribute time and money to increase habitat for wild animals while at the same time protect hunters rights. I have achieved my hunting goals because of the contributions of hunters!

Book excerpt: In the exciting, fast-paced Western adventure sequel to Escape from Hell's Corner, crazed killer Amos Clarke (aka Amos Watson) will stop at nothing to avenge the death of his father. Amos Watson's admiration for his father and almost worship of the blacksnake-whip were all that remained from outlaw Watson Clarke's horrific reign of terror inflicted on the people of southwest Texas during Amos' formative years. During his youth, Amos developed a seething rage and designed an insidious plan to avenge his father's death. His hatred of those responsible for killing his father included three Darnel brothers, two county sheriffs, a Mexican Army captain and the leading citizens of Turtle Creek. Amos avoided work and spent his youthful years committing crimes-- mostly petty thievery─ he felt capable of doing without having to pay the penalty. Amos learned all his killer father's sly and cunning tricks and acquired his hedonic desire for feelings of satisfaction and pleasure while abusing women, especially young girls. He always brought home to his mother the money and other valuables he robbed. Set in the picturesque Texas mountains, Return to Hell's Corner combines danger, romance, bravery, and good old-fashioned western justice to provide an exhilarating ride through the lawless wasteland of the Old West.
