Book excerpt: Friends wickedness is real and of a true the heart of man is the root and abode of all wickedness. The world today is so wicked that you don’t need to do anything to attract wickedness because the world is already wicked and being alive alone is an issue with the wicked not to talk more of when it seems that you are gaining advantages on the earth. The desire of the wicked is to keep the victims and continuously see them in perpetual pain and sorrow. The Adamic nature is a wicked nature and so wickedness has prevailed since the days of the garden of Eden. A victory over wickedness is our triumph into glory as ordained by God for every redeemed. But the wicked won’t just stop doing wickedly. They need to be stopped. And for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to pay the ultimate price of drinking of the cup of wickedness from the wicked. All forms of the instrument of cruelty was released to him and for our glory he became a ransom to exchange our destiny from the snare of the fowler. The cup of wrath was emptied by Jesus so that life and it’s bitterness can become sweet and glorious again for the redeem that care to engage in its demands.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays are written in honour of John D.W. Watts, formerly Professor of Old Testament at Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky and Old Testament editor of the Word Biblical Commentary, well known for his contributions, especially to scholarship on the prophetic books. Accordingly, the essays here address the literary, redactional and canonical questions posed by the Hebrew Bible's prophetic literature. The prophetic books have defied easy classification according to genre or facile explanation of their historical development. With a special focus on the books of Isaiah and of the Twelve Prophets, the nature and formation of prophecy as literature is probed from a variety of methodological standpoints, including textual criticism, synchronic literary analysis, tradition history and redaction criticism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Commentary on the Book of Revelation - Volume 2 The author presents a detailed study of the Book of Revelation emphasizing prophetic themes from the rest of the Bible which find their fulfillment in Revelation. To understand this controversial book, the author explores the many connections between the visions seen by the Apostle John and previous prophetic revelation given to Old Testament prophets such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and others. It is the author's conviction that an understanding of related passages elsewhere in the Bible is the most important key to unlocking the bewildering variety of interpretations which often accompany the study of the last book of the Bible. The commentary can be used in conjunction with a free companion internet course providing an additional 70 hours of audio instruction linked to almost 1,000 slides.

Book excerpt: What is a question? Kenneth Craig poses this query in the introductory chapter of his innovative study on the function of interrogatives in the Hebrew Bible. He describes a question as “a special literary phenomenon. A question is an opening that seeks to be closed, and its rhetorical play derives from how it disposes its energies: how it invites opening, how it imposes closure” (p. 2). Carefully analyzing texts from Genesis, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, Haggai and Zechariah, Craig demonstrates the nuanced and multifaceted ways in which the Hebrew Bible’s interrogatives function to advance the Bible’s literary and ideological goals.
