Book Synopsis Birthing Techno-Sapiens by : Robbie Davis-Floyd
Download or read book Birthing Techno-Sapiens written by Robbie Davis-Floyd and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking book challenges us to re-think ourselves as techno-sapiens—a new species we are creating as we continually co-evolve ourselves with our technologies. While some of its chapters are imaginary, they are all empirically grounded in ethnography and richly theorized from diverse disciplines. The authors go far beyond a techno-optimism vs. techno-pessimism stance, stretching our thinking about birthing techno-sapiens to consider not only how our cyborgian reproductive lives are constrained and/or enabled by technology but are also about emotions and spirit. The world of reproductive health care and particularly that of genetic engineering is developing exponentially, and current challenges are vastly different from those of a decade ago. The book is provocative, intended to generate debate, ideas, and future research and to influence ethical policy and practice in human techno-reproduction. It will be of interest across the social sciences and humanities, for reproductive scholars, bioethicists, techno-scientists, and those involved in the development and delivery of maternity services.

By the time you read this Owner's Manual, you will be on your way to evolving your own consciousness. Included with this Owner's Manual is the novel Romancing the Absurd, a story of redemption for two of the characters who dabble in consciously evolving their consciousness. When financial investigator Tony T. Trueblé is hired to interview key players in a major lawsuit against a venture capitalist group, his world is turned upside down as he is dragged through a seedy underworld of corruption, dishonesty, and murder. He must not only get the job done but do so without giving into his insatiable cravings for vodka, weed, and causal, meaningless sex. Sensational, satirical, and sometimes absurd, Romancing the Absurd is a literary murder mystery full of intrigue, suspense, philosophy, and absurdist cutthroat behavior. Nine people die under bizarre circumstances. A handful of people get screwed (in more ways than one). The story takes humorous and philosophical twists and turns, leaving you laughing at the murderous tactics some folks are willing to use to get ahead in this world. Throughout the story, there runs an undercurrent of reflection, hope, and redemption for Tony, who strives to right his wrongs, and Jim der Bacon, accused of murder yet able to focus on consciously evolving his own consciousness. For Tony, redemption comes through writing and his new awareness that one can consciously evolve their consciousness. Romancing the Absurd is the final result of Tony's studies, hard work, and shocking struggles with himself, others, and the universe at large. Based on real-life venture capitalists, businessmen, and lawyers, the story is structured using reinvented reality.
Book Synopsis Memetics and Evolutionary Economics by : Michael P. Schlaile
Download or read book Memetics and Evolutionary Economics written by Michael P. Schlaile and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-21 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the question of whether and how meme theory or “memetics” can be fruitfully utilized in evolutionary economics and proposes an approach known as “economemetics” which is a combination of meme theory and complexity theory that has the potential to combat the fragmentation of evolutionary economics while re-connecting the field with cultural evolutionary theory. By studying the intersection of cultural and economic evolution, complexity economics, computational economics, and network science, the authors establish a connection between memetics and evolutionary economics at different levels of investigation. The book first demonstrates how a memetic approach to economic evolution can help to reveal links and build bridges between different but complementary concepts in evolutionary economics. Secondly, it shows how organizational memetics can help to capture the complexity of organizational culture using meme mapping. Thirdly, it presents an agent-based simulation model of knowledge diffusion and assimilation in innovation networks from a memetic perspective. The authors then use agent-based modeling and social network analysis to evaluate the diffusion pattern of the Ice Bucket Challenge as an example of a “viral meme.” Lastly, the book discusses the central issues of agency, creativity, and normativity in the context of economemetics and suggests promising avenues for further research.

Book Synopsis Confessions of a Reformission Rev. by : Mark Driscoll
Download or read book Confessions of a Reformission Rev. written by Mark Driscoll and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the birth and growth of Seattle’s innovative Mars Hill Church, one of America’s fastest growing churches located in one of America’s toughest mission fields. It’s also the story of the growth of a pastor, the mistakes he’s made along the way, and God’s grace and work in spite of those mistakes. Mark Driscoll’s emerging, missional church took a rocky road from its start in a hot, upstairs youth room with gold shag carpet to its current weekly attendance of thousands. With engaging humor, humility, and candor, Driscoll shares the failures, frustrations, and just plain messiness of trying to build a church that is faithful to the gospel of Christ in a highly post-Christian culture. In the telling, he’s not afraid to skewer some sacred cows of traditional, contemporary, and emerging churches. Each chapter discusses not only the hard lessons learned but also the principles and practices that worked and that can inform your church’s ministry, no matter its present size. The book includes discussion questions and appendix resources. “After reading a book like this, you can never go back to being an inwardly focused church without a mission. Even if you disagree with Mark about some of the things he says, you cannot help but be convicted to the inner core about what it means to have a heart for those who don’t know Jesus.”—Dan Kimball, author,The Emerging Church “... will make you laugh, cry, and get mad ... school you, shape you, and mold you into the right kind of priorities to lead the church in today’s messy world.”—Robert Webber, Northern Seminary
