Book Synopsis Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-01-15 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.

Download or read book Computer Vision written by Ian Overington and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1992 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique volume is a comprehensive, self-consistent coverage of one approach to computer vision, with many direct or implied links to human vision. The book is the result of many years spent by the author in research into the limits of human visual performance and the interactions between the observer and his environment. A wide-ranging and largely novel approach to computer vision is described. The treatment starts with a summary account of important aspects of human visual function. This is then followed by a progressive development of the computer image processing, from sub-pixel fragmentary edge determination to optical flow field analysis, local and global stereo analysis, colour imagery, edge-based region segmentation, perceptual texture segmentation and high fidelity contour form analysis. This treatment is considerably different from other more publicised approaches, and is highly recommended for those seeking a dynamic new approach to computer vision.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Image Engineering by : Yu-Jin Zhang
Download or read book Handbook of Image Engineering written by Yu-Jin Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 1963 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image techniques have been developed and implemented for various purposes, and image engineering (IE) is a rapidly evolving, integrated discipline comprising the study of all the different branches of image techniques, and encompassing mathematics, physics, biology, physiology, psychology, electrical engineering, computer science and automation. Advances in the field are also closely related to the development of telecommunications, biomedical engineering, remote sensing, surveying and mapping, as well as document processing and industrial applications. IE involves three related and partially overlapping groups of image techniques: image processing (IP) (in its narrow sense), image analysis (IA) and image understanding (IU), and the integration of these three groups makes the discipline of image engineering an important part of the modern information era. This is the first handbook on image engineering, and provides a well-structured, comprehensive overview of this new discipline. It also offers detailed information on the various image techniques. It is a valuable reference resource for R&D professional and undergraduate students involved in image-related activities.

Book Synopsis Scale Space and PDE Methods in Computer Vision by : Ron Kimmel
Download or read book Scale Space and PDE Methods in Computer Vision written by Ron Kimmel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-03-31 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Scale-Space and PDE Methods in Computer Vision. The scale-space concept was introduced by Iijima more than 40 years ago and became popular later on through the works of Witkin and Koenderink. It is at the junction of three major schools of thought in image processing and computer vision: the design of ?lters, axiomatic approaches based on partial di?erential equations (PDEs), and variational methods for image regularization. Scale-space ideas belong to the mathematically best-understood approaches in image analysis. They have entered numerous successful applications in medical imaging and a number of other ?elds where they often give results of very high quality. This conference followed biennial meetings held in Utrecht, Corfu, Vancouver and Skye. It took place in a little castle (Schl ̈ osschen Sch ̈ onburg) near the small town of Hofgeismar, Germany. Inspired by the very successful previous meeting at Skye, we kept the style of gathering people in a slightly remote and scenic place in order to encourage many fruitful discussions during the day and in the evening. Each paper was reviewed by three experts from the Program Committee, sometimes helped by additional reviewers.
