His Kant for Children is intended to help young people learn about Immanuel Kant’s philosophy. Friedlaender writes, “Morality is inherent in us organically. But its abstract formula should be imprinted on schoolchildren.” Published in 1924, 200 years after Kant’s birth, the book sparked interest in some quarters, attracting the attention of the first Newbery Award winner, Hendrik Willem van Loon, who corresponded with Friedlaender in 1933 requesting an English translation. That didn’t happen. This is the first English translation of the book. During the National Socialist period, Kant for Children troubled the Nazis. They banned Friedlaender’s work. Rebecca Hanf, friend of Ernst Marcus, the philosopher who claimed to have resurrected Kant, recognized that Friedlaender’s Kant for Children could counter the Nazi appropriation of Kant and realign Kant with egalitarianism and anti-fascist politics, meaning the book has contemporary relevance in light of an international resurgence of fascism. A lifelong student of Kant’s works, Friedlaender deserves a wider audience among Kant scholars and students. This first English translation includes an introduction to Friedlaender as well as essays by Paul Mendes-Flohr, Sarah Holtman, Robert Louden, Kate Moran, Krista Thomason, and Jens Timmermann. For translating and editing Kant for Children, Bruce Krajewski received The 2023 Silvers Grant for Work in Progress from the Robert B. Silvers Foundation. The Robert B. Silvers Foundation is a charitable trust established by a bequest of the late Robert B. Book excerpt: It is generally known that the spirit realm is the transcendent or absolute reality that actually gave birth to our temporal reality or what we know to be physical, material, temporary realm. Because our existence owes its source to the spiritual realm, the latter is actually what dictates events in our realm. It takes no effort to realize that not only is the bible an integrated message but also one that has its origins in another dimension of existence, beyond what we are accustomed to. Have you wondered how the Bible accurately describes scientific phenomena millennia before science arrived on the planet? How on earth did Moses know how the world was created when no man was on the scene at the beginning of creation? It does not take a genius to fathom that there has to be a supreme being, a God out there, who is the source and sustainer of all life. Like I said earlier on whether we are aware or not, life in this temporary material realm is influenced, even directed from another realm—the spiritual. That is why it is important that we understand this realm and cooperate with it to get it to work with and for us. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” He is saying that our focus should be on the unseen, eternal realm, which is the real reality because that is permanent as opposed to this realm that is but a passing shadow. The need to focus on the things that don’t change becomes even more crucial because of the sheer amount and complexity of change that we have to contend with in our lives. Changes in technology, science, medicine, career, and the work place are so fast and complex that we need something strong enough to provide the necessary moorings to hold our lives in place and provide the necessary balance to our lives if we are not to be swept away by the change. Even though change is unsettling, disruptive, and can be scary, even good change, it brings opportunities and progress. So how do we maintain our sanity and embrace the necessary change? It is my conviction that we do this by turning to and focusing on the things that do not change. The things that do not change include God and his word; humans in our basic makeup and constitution; and our biological makeup and sexuality, family, society, relationships, parenting, etc. Of course, the way these may be defined may change over time, but the fact is that they are there. This is why it is important to access the right information from the source of this realm, the spirit realm, to influence and direct our lives in this realm because even though the way man has come to view certain things may have changed over time, the spirit realm is not subject to same change as this. This is the reason why it is important to know God’s truth on every issue of life and apply it accordingly. Now the Bible says that Jesus is the only legitimate door to the spirit realm. According to John 10:9–10, Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” He is the only authorized dealer mandated by God to take people into the Father’s presence and, hence, the only mediator between man and God. As you embrace the truths enshrined in this book, understand that you are calling on a power greater than yourself, from a source beyond this temporal realm to intervene in your life and that of your family. Make the truths enshrined in Eternal Nuggets your truths by incorporating them into your life and see the invisible but real hand of God move in your life to bring much needed blessing, peace, and contentment into every area of your life.

Book excerpt: Starting from the assumption that 'time is the horizon of the meaning of Being' (Heidegger), Eternal God/ Saving Time attempts to discover what the central religious idea of eternity or of God as 'the Eternal' might mean today. Negotiating ideas of divine timelessness and sempiternity (everlastingness) as well as the attempts of some philosophers to develop the idea of a temporal God, Professor George Pattison surveys a range of positions from analytic philosophy and from the continental tradition from Spinoza through Hegel to the present. Intellectual and cultural forces have tended to separate time and eternity, and both philosophical and theological examples of this tendency are examined. Nevertheless, starting from the experience of life in time, some modern thinkers have developed a new approach to the Eternal as what grounds or gives time. This leads through ideas of novelty, utopia, hope, promise, and call to the projection of a creative and transformative memory-remembering the future-that affirms human solidarity and mutual responsibility. Even if this cannot be made good in terms of knowledge, it offers a basis for hope, prayer, and commitment and these options are explored through a range of Christian, Jewish, Greek, and secular thinkers. This development re-envisages the idea of redemption, away from the Augustinian view that time is what we need to be rescued from and towards the idea that time itself might save us from all that is destructive and tyrannical in time's rule over human life.
