This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the edited collection Restart: Sport After the Covid-19 Time Out, practitioners and international scholars explore the “restart” of sport and fitness following the initial period of lockdowns during spring 2020. The chapters provide insight into the sport and fitness landscape following the initial wave of the pandemic. The book focuses on challenges for sport providers, consequences for sporting participants, and opportunities for new ways of practicing sports. It contributes contemporaneous data, analyses, and insights into the global sport landscape that has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This book presents a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives in a total of nineteen individual chapters, organized around five main themes. The first four chapters deal with the restart of sporting events in four countries. This section is followed by an assessment of the Olympic Movement’s challenges after its postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games to 2021. Chapters in the next theme provide analyses of how national governments handled restarting sport and fitness in different geographical locations. Finally, the last three chapters look at the role of the media during the restart phase, both in reporting sport and with regards to innovations and the implementation of new technology in staging and broadcasting elite sport.

Book excerpt: This is the story of life in Ireland – a story half a billion years in the making. With its castles, crannogs and passage tombs, Ireland is a land where history looms large, but the saga of life on this island dates back millions of years before the first people set foot here. In Life in Ireland, Conor O’Brien guides the reader on a journey around the island to explore the history of natural life here, from the Jurassic Coast of Antrim to the great Ice Age bone-beds of Cork. Along the way, we’ll meet some of the astonishing creatures to have called Ireland home through the ages: shelled monsters; huge marine lizards; armoured dinosaurs; giant deer; mighty mammoths. Vital strands in the story of life on Earth have left their mark here, including some of the first creatures to crawl onto land or take to the wing. This epic journey will take us from the first fossils to the present day, to see how our wildlife has adapted to the human age and explore what the future might hold for life in Ireland.

Download or read book The Time out of Mind written by Ian Bell and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the middle of the 1970s, Bob Dylan’s position as the pre-eminent artist of his generation was assured. The 1975 album Blood on the Tracks seemed to prove, finally, that an uncertain age had found its poet. Then Dylan faltered. His instincts, formerly unerring, deserted him. in the 1980s, what had once appeared unthinkable came to pass: the “voice of a generation” began to sound irrelevant, a tale told to grandchildren.Yet in the autumn of 1997, something remarkable happened. Having failed to release a single new song in seven long years, Dylan put out the equivalent of two albums in a single package. in the concluding volume of his ground- breaking study, ian Bell explores the unparalleled second act in a quintessentially american career. it is a tale of redemption, of an act of creative will against the odds, and of a writer who refused to fade away.Time Out of Mind is the story of the latest, perhaps the last, of the many Bob Dylans.
