Book Synopsis Time and the Dancing Image by : Deborah Jowitt
Download or read book Time and the Dancing Image written by Deborah Jowitt and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If dance itself is a way of making ideas both visual and visceral, Deborah Jowitt has discovered a literary voice in Time and the Dancing Image in which nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, in its relation to theatrical dancing, becomes sensuous."--Sally Banes, Cornell University "The most vivid and immediately accessible serious dance book ever written. Anyone from a neophyte to an aficionado will be challenged, enlightened and delighted by Jowitt's clever juxtapositions."--Allen Robertson, Dance Editor, Time Out, London "In this brilliant book Deborah Jowitt has given us a fresh approach to dance history and criticism. Instead of seeing dance in the usual way--isolated in a windowless room, with mirrored walls--she looks to the society in which dance evolved. Using the ideas of contemporary artists and thinkers, she illuminates changing tastes--from the elegant, ethereal sylphs of the 1830s to the agonized characters in the dances today. For her reader, Ms. Jowitt opens both the eyes and the mind to the wonders of a many-faceted art."--Selma Jeanne Cohen, Editor, International Encyclopedia of Dance
Book Synopsis Time and the Image by : Carolyn Bailey Gill
Download or read book Time and the Image written by Carolyn Bailey Gill and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating and innovative study explores the lives of people living in early modern Ireland through the books and printed ephemera which they bought, borrowed or stole from others. While the importance of books and printing in influencing the outlook of early modern people is well known, recent years have seen significant changes in our understanding of how writing and print shaped lives, and was in turn shaped by those who appropriated the written word. The author finds that a set of revolutions took place which transformed the lives of the Irish in unexpected ways, and that the rise of writing and the spread of print were central to an understanding of those changes which have previously only been understood to have been the result of conquest and colonisation. This is a book which will be read not only by those interested in the Irish past but by all those who are concerned with the impact of communications media on social change.
Download or read book Visual Time written by Keith Moxey and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visual Time offers a rare consideration of the idea of time in art history. Non-Western art histories currently have an unprecedented prominence in the discipline. To what extent are their artistic narratives commensurate with those told about Western art? Does time run at the same speed in all places? Keith Moxey argues that the discipline of art history has been too attached to interpreting works of art based on a teleological categorization—demonstrating how each work influences the next as part of a linear sequence—which he sees as tied to Western notions of modernity. In contrast, he emphasizes how the experience of viewing art creates its own aesthetic time, where the viewer is entranced by the work itself rather than what it represents about the historical moment when it was created. Moxey discusses the art, and writing about the art, of modern and contemporary artists, such as Gerard Sekoto, Thomas Demand, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Cindy Sherman, as well as the sixteenth-century figures Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Albrecht Dürer, Matthias Grünewald, and Hans Holbein. In the process, he addresses the phenomenological turn in the study of the image, its application to the understanding of particular artists, the ways verisimilitude eludes time in both the past and the present, and the role of time in nationalist accounts of the past.
Book Synopsis Real-Time Image and Video Processing by : Nasser Kehtarnavaz
Download or read book Real-Time Image and Video Processing written by Nasser Kehtarnavaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of the guidelines and strategies for transitioning an image or video processing algorithm from a research environment into a real-time constrained environment. Such guidelines and strategies are scattered in the literature of various disciplines including image processing, computer engineering, and software engineering, and thus have not previously appeared in one place. By bringing these strategies into one place, the book is intended to serve the greater community of researchers, practicing engineers, industrial professionals, who are interested in taking an image or video processing algorithm from a research environment to an actual real-time implementation on a resource constrained hardware platform. These strategies consist of algorithm simplifications, hardware architectures, and software methods. Throughout the book, carefully selected representative examples from the literature are presented to illustrate the discussed concepts. After reading the book, the readers are exposed to a wide variety of techniques and tools, which they can then employ to design a real-time image or video processing system.

Book Synopsis Pictures of Time Beneath by : Kirsty Douglas
Download or read book Pictures of Time Beneath written by Kirsty Douglas and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2010-04-27 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pictures of Time Beneath examines three celebrated heritage landscapes: Adelaide’s Hallett Cove, Lake Callabonna in the far north of South Australia, and the World Heritage listed Willandra Lakes Region of New South Wales. It offers philosophical insights into significant issues of heritage management, our relationship with Australian landscapes, and an original perspective on our understanding of place, time, nation and science. Glaciers in Adelaide, cow-sized wombats, monster kangaroos, desert dunes littered with freshwater mussels, ancient oases and inland seas: a diverse group of deep-time imaginings is the subject of this ground-breaking book. Ideas about a deep past in Australia are central to broader issues of identity, belonging, uniqueness, legitimacy and intellectual community. This journey through Australia’s natural histories examines the way landscapes and landforms are interpreted to realise certain visions of the land, the nation and the past in the context of contemporary notions of geological heritage, cultural property, cultural identity and antiquity.
Book Synopsis The Time of the Image by : Zeigam Azizov
Download or read book The Time of the Image written by Zeigam Azizov and published by Herbert von Halem Verlag. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Time of the Image is a philosophical exploration of the notion of ›the image‹ and the relationship between the time and image. It includes the understanding of the image as a temporal object, the place of the thought combined with the mimetic faculty the result of which is the translation of fuzzy aggregates that gives rise to imitations as both artistic and political force of resistance and as a new image of thought. This thesis is a philosophical exploration of the image as technics of access to the world in the age of the proliferation. It poses the question of the understanding of the role of the image in the constitution of the subject. How does the proliferation of the image constitute the subject? The question emerges in the situation of the endless proliferation of images that poses this necessity of the distinction between images used in art and images circulated in the culture industry. The line of the argument emerges from the condition of the image being connected to time: they are temporal objects. The crucial relationship between the image and time provides the possibility for the constitution of the subject. This relationship is recorded in images as the ›recorded memory‹. Images are remnants of time and any constitution is the imitation of what is left out as ›a missing dimension of time‹. As a blend of philosophy, cultural theory, and contemporary art this book is based on the reading of Bernard Stiegler's notion that ›technics precedes thought‹, the human is the product of technics, which leaves the formation (trans-individuation) as an open process. It also involves the re-reading of Husserl's understanding of memory, the question of ›derushage‹ (the first assembly in the process of montage) and the new mimesis. Case studies of Harun Farocki's project entitled Workers Leaving the Factory and Chris Marker's film La Jetée are included to sustain the argument that in the hyper-real world of globalisation imitation became the main force of ›acting out‹.
Download or read book Time/Image written by Amy L. Powell and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time/Image explores the interrelationship of time and thought in contemporary art. The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue take Gilles Deleuze's concept of "the time-image" as an open provocation and loose philosophical framework to consider contemporary practices shaping perception of time as a tangible and active force in the world. The selected artists and filmmakers understand time expansively rather than quantitatively. They revisit historical narratives and inherited genealogies to interrogate the chronologies governing how we live and to propose new attachments and hypothetical futures. This book features contributions by Kara Keeling, Amy L. Powell, Raqs Media Collective, and Jeannine Tang.06/10/2015

Download or read book Remote Sensing Time Series Image Processing written by Qihao Weng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, remote sensing technology is an essential tool for understanding the Earth and managing human-Earth interactions. There is a rapidly growing need for remote sensing and Earth observation technology that enables monitoring of world’s natural resources and environments, managing exposure to natural and man-made risks and more frequently occurring disasters, and helping the sustainability and productivity of natural and human ecosystems. The improvement in temporal resolution/revisit allows for the large accumulation of images for a specific location, creating a possibility for time series image analysis and eventual real-time assessments of scene dynamics. As an authoritative text, Remote Sensing Time Series Image Processing brings together active and recognized authors in the field of time series image analysis and presents to the readers the current state of knowledge and its future directions. Divided into three parts, the first addresses methods and techniques for generating time series image datasets. In particular, it provides guidance on the selection of cloud and cloud shadow detection algorithms for various applications. Part II examines feature development and information extraction methods for time series imagery. It presents some key remote sensing-based metrics, and their major applications in ecosystems and climate change studies. Part III illustrates various applications of time series image processing in land cover change, disturbance attribution, vegetation dynamics, and urbanization. This book is intended for researchers, practitioners, and students in both remote sensing and imaging science. It can be used as a textbook by undergraduate and graduate students majoring in remote sensing, imaging science, civil and electrical engineering, geography, geosciences, planning, environmental science, land use, energy, and GIS, and as a reference book by practitioners and professionals in the government, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Book Synopsis Change Detection and Image Time Series Analysis 2 by : Abdourrahmane M. Atto
Download or read book Change Detection and Image Time Series Analysis 2 written by Abdourrahmane M. Atto and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-12-29 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Change Detection and Image Time Series Analysis 2 presents supervised machine-learning-based methods for temporal evolution analysis by using image time series associated with Earth observation data. Chapter 1 addresses the fusion of multisensor, multiresolution and multitemporal data. It proposes two supervised solutions that are based on a Markov random field: the first relies on a quad-tree and the second is specifically designed to deal with multimission, multifrequency and multiresolution time series. Chapter 2 provides an overview of pixel based methods for time series classification, from the earliest shallow learning methods to the most recent deep-learning-based approaches. Chapter 3 focuses on very high spatial resolution data time series and on the use of semantic information for modeling spatio-temporal evolution patterns. Chapter 4 centers on the challenges of dense time series analysis, including pre processing aspects and a taxonomy of existing methodologies. Finally, since the evaluation of a learning system can be subject to multiple considerations, Chapters 5 and 6 offer extensive evaluations of the methodologies and learning frameworks used to produce change maps, in the context of multiclass and/or multilabel change classification issues.
Book Synopsis Real-Time Progressive Hyperspectral Image Processing by : Chein-I Chang
Download or read book Real-Time Progressive Hyperspectral Image Processing written by Chein-I Chang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book covers the most crucial parts of real-time hyperspectral image processing: causality and real-time capability. Recently, two new concepts of real time hyperspectral image processing, Progressive HyperSpectral Imaging (PHSI) and Recursive HyperSpectral Imaging (RHSI). Both of these can be used to design algorithms and also form an integral part of real time hyperpsectral image processing. This book focuses on progressive nature in algorithms on their real-time and causal processing implementation in two major applications, endmember finding and anomaly detection, both of which are fundamental tasks in hyperspectral imaging but generally not encountered in multispectral imaging. This book is written to particularly address PHSI in real time processing, while a book, Recursive Hyperspectral Sample and Band Processing: Algorithm Architecture and Implementation (Springer 2016) can be considered as its companion book.
