Vertex charge is used to enrich the selection of neutral over charged B mesons. This method results in a sample of 581 neutral decays with high charge purity. The B candidate is tagged at production with a combined tag that exploits the large polarized b forward-backward asymmetry in conjunction with the opposite hemisphere b jet charge. The final state is tagged by the sign of the high (p, p[sub t]) lepton. No significant mixing signal was found and the following ranges of the oscillation frequency of B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° mixing are excluded at 95% CL from the analysis presented in this thesis: [Delta]m{sub s}

The B[sub d][sup 0] -[bar B][sub d][sup 0] mixing analysis uses the charge of high momentum kaons to identify the B or[bar B] decay flavor. The result is[Delta]m[sub d]= 0.503[+-] 0.028(stat)[+-] 0.020(syst) ps[sup -1]. The results of three separate B[sub s][sup 0] -[bar B][sub s][sup 0] mixing analyses are presented. These analyses determine the B decay flavor using the lepton charge in B semileptonic decays, the charge of fully reconstructed D[sub s] decays, and the charge difference between topologically reconstructed B and D decays. The three analyses are combined to set a lower limit on the B[sub s][sup 0] -[bar B][sub s][sup 0] oscillation frequency of 12.0 ps[sup -1] at 95% CL.

Book excerpt: Based on an 87-fb{sup -1} dataset collected by the Babar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-Factory, a search for D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing has been made using the semileptonic decay modes D*{sup +} {yields} {pi}{sup +}D{sup 0}, D{sup 0} {yields} Ke{nu} (+c.c.). The use of these modes allows unambiguous flavor tagging and a combined fit of the D{sup 0} decay time and D*{sup +}-D{sup 0} mass difference ({Delta}M) distributions. The high-statistics sample of unmixed semileptonic D{sup 0} decays is used to model the {Delta}M distribution and time-dependence of mixed events directly from the data. Neural networks are used to select events and reconstruct the D{sup 0}. A result consistent with no charm mixing has been obtained, R{sub mix} = 0.0023 {+-} 0.0012 {+-} 0.0004.
