The Jewish Sages teach that staying up all night is more than just a celebration of Torah, it is a tikkun, a spiritual rectification. The 16th-century mystic Rabbi Itzchak Luria, the Arizal, prepared a study guide for the night of Shavuot. This guide is presented here, in both Hebrew and English, together with a selection of penetrating insights and commentaries drawn primarily from the mystical teachings of the Zohar and the Arizal.

Book excerpt: This booklet contains the Torah reading we listen to the night of Shavout, containing specific segments from each parasha. Traditionally, Shavuot commemorates an event that took place over 3,400 years ago. It was on this day that Moses descended from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments and the Torah, powerful tools that allow us to remove negativity and foster abundance in our lives. Through the study of Kabbalah, however, we learn that nothing in the physical world can be the cause. The physical is an effect that must be preceded by the spiritual. What happened on Shavuot was the result of an activity occurring in the spiritual world. The Kabbalists explain that energetically speaking, the revelation of the Ten Commandments was in fact an illumination of ten levels of Light, health, love, continuity and security. And since there is no lack in the spiritual realm, energy does not disappear; what happened once on Mount Sinai happens again every year on the sixth day of Sivan. On the night of Shavuot, the totality of the Light of the Creator is available to each of us through the Torah reading contained in this booklet.

Book Synopsis The Chassidishe Parsha Torah Or-Likkutei Torah by : Yaakov Goldstein

This book was released on 2016-03-13 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English literature available on Chassidus has increased tenfold throughout the years, having us witness a real breakthrough in this regard. Hundreds of classical Chassidic texts have been translated and annotated by renowned writers and publishers. The monumental work of Tanya has been translated, explained, and disseminated in English throughout all corners of the globe. Nonetheless, we find that one of the greatest works of Chassidic thought has not yet found its way onto the English bookshelf, the Mamarim of Torah Or and Likkutei Torah of the Alter Rebbe. These works are considered to be the Oral Torah of the Tanya and are hence complementary to it. The Mamarim of Torah Or and Likkutei Torah are the foundation of most of the Mamarim of Chassidus of all the later generations. One of the reasons for the lack of an English counterpart for this Sefer is because of its great depth and advanced Kabbalistic jargon. It is our great honor to offer the English-speaking public the first full English counterpart for the great, illustrious works of Torah Or and Likkutei Torah. The Sefer includes a single Mamar per Parsha, which is summarized, explained, and brought into practical application for the reader. The Mamarim are not a direct translation of the Hebrew original, but rather a content summary of the Mamar. At times, due to the extended length of a certain Mamar, we may only summarize a certain section of the Mamar, and not the Mamar in its entirety. Each Parsha features a single selected Mamar from amongst the many Mamarim that are printed in the Hebrew original, giving our readers a taste and glimpse of the full content of this monumental work. Our main goal is for the reader to receive the content knowledge of the most fundamental Mamarim written by the Alter Rebbe, and for him to be given the tools for how to implement this knowledge within his daily life. Each Mamar concludes with a lessons box that summarizes the practical life lessons that we can derive from the Mamar. Also included are interesting parables that we find easy to relate to and help us to digest the content being studied, and internalize it. It is our heartfelt prayer that the Mamarim in this Sefer will uplift your spiritual experience and give you spiritual hope, faith, love, and trust in Hashem, being the light that illuminates your relationship with G-d.

Book Synopsis Window of the Soul by : James David Dunn
Download or read book Window of the Soul written by James David Dunn and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-26 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some four hundred years before Albert Einstein proposed his theory of relativity of the outer universe to the scientific community, a rabbi named Isaac Luria (1534–1572) passed his theory of the inner universe and its evolution to his students. With vision given only to the most gifted of kabbalistic mystics, Luria explained the inner worlds of the spirit and of the evolution that led to the ultimate birth of our cosmos. In a selection of passages from Luria’s Kabbalah that is both universal and stand-alone in transcendental value, Professor James Dunn presents, for the very first time, the essence of the great rabbi’s teachings. According to Luria, the ultimate calling in this lifetime or in future lifetimes is to reharmonize (and hence remove) inherent imperfections through proper heart, and the teachings presented here have just this aim: to help “heal the broken vessel of the world” (tikkun olam). We all long to be healed and whole, and here scholars and lay people alike will find the wisdom they seek.

Book Synopsis The Way Into Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) by : Rabbi Elliot N. Dorff, PhD

This book was released on 2013-01-24 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible introduction to the Jewish concept of our responsibility to care for others and repair the world. For everyone who wants to understand the meaning and significance of tikkun olam (repairing the world) in Jewish spiritual life, this book shows the way into an essential aspect of Judaism and allows you to interact directly with the sacred texts of the Jewish tradition. Guided by Dr. Elliot N. Dorff, Rector and Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of Judaism, this comprehensive introduction explores the roots of the beliefs and laws that are the basis of the Jewish commitment to improve the world. It looks at the various motivations that the sacred texts provide for caring for others, the ways the Jewish tradition seeks to foster such concerns in our social and family relationships, and the kind of society that Jews should strive to create as partners with God. What tikkun olam is. Ancient idea? New concept? The underlying theory has developed over time and branched into related terms and concepts that Judaism has used over thousands of years to describe the duties we now identify as acts of tikkun loam. Why we engage in acts of tikkun loam. Reasons include, but go far beyond, a general humanitarian feeling that we might have or the hope that if we help others, others will be there to help us. How we repair the world. The concrete expressions of tikkun olam in our families, our communities, the wider Jewish community, and the world at large help shape one of the most important aspects of the Jewish tradition. By illuminating Judaism’s understanding of the components of an ideal world, and the importance of justice, compassion, education, piety, social and familial harmony and enrichment, and physical flourishing for both the individual and society, we see how this ancient quest for a world with all these elements helps us define Jewish identity and mission today.
