Book excerpt: Between the covers of this book, I attempt to take you on a journey through the eyes of the disciple that Jesus loved. Not wanting to quote scripture, but to fill in the blanks of scripture. To help you see what John saw. To hear what John heard. To feel what John felt. You will begin this journey on Golgotha as John had to not only deal with his own grief, but also console the Blessed Mother Mary. Then to the tomb, and on to the upper room to wait and cry and wonder, when will they come for us? Three days pass and the Lord rises from the dead! Even with the new strength from the knowledge of the Resurrection, we hide in the locked room, then He appears to us! The second time he appears, Thomas is there, having not believed that we saw and talked with the Risen Christ. Jesus invites Thomas to put his fingers in the nail holes in His hands and feet and his hand into his side. Then Jesus asks for something to eat! A month passes and Jesus leads you and the others out to the vicinity of Bethany, which is situated on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, a half a day's hike! There, He says that He will send an advocate who will always be with us and remind us all He said and did. Then blessed us all and floated into the sky. Then two men in white robes appeared and said "Why do you stand here looking into the sky?" We all feel foolish as this implies a gentle reminder to us that our task and focus should not be solely on the sight of Jesus ascending, but on the mission He had entrusted to us. The journey continues with the daunting task of preaching the Good News to all and more personally, the task of keeping Mother Mary safe from all harm, even if it takes bringing her to a safe city far away. Enjoy the images and dialog John may have had with the other Apostles, Mary and those he ministered to. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homosexuality has been at the forefront of debate in the church for the last quarter-century, with Biblical interpretation at the heart of this debate. Some biblical passages appear to condemn certain same-sex relationships or erotic practices, resulting in a challenge to clergy as well as laity regarding the preaching and understanding of these Biblical passages. In "The Man Jesus Loved," Jennings proposes a gay-affirmative reading of the Bible in the hope of respecting the integrity of these texts and making them more clear as well as persuasive. This reading suggests that the exclusion of persons on the basis of their sexual orientation or same-sex practices fundamentally distorts the Bible generally and the traditions concerning Jesus in particular.

Book excerpt: This book tells us, in exquisite detail, about the amazing times when Jesus was teaching and healing in the Holy Land and about his shocking crucifixion, with tantalizing glimpses of what may have followed. This is not fiction; it is a real story that has never been told like this before. Jesus’s adopted young brother, Thomas, recounts the events of those days, including many of the actual words of Jesus. He helps us understand the enthusiasm and excitement that Jesus brought to the people then. His words are as relevant today as they were then. He understood the purpose of life, why we are here, where we are going, and what we should be doing to get there.

In their monumental critical edition of "The New Testament in the Original Greek," Cambridge professors B. F. Westcott and F. J. A. Hort established the Greek text that has become the essential basis for nearly all subsequent editions and English translations. Through their groundbreaking reconstruction of New Testament textual history and their rigorous reexamination of the manuscript evidence, Westcott and Hort inaugurated a new era of textual study that has set the stage for all subsequent work. Beyond preserving the landmark text, this new edition offers students and scholars alike a handy and affordable Greek Testament for day-to-day use that includes English headings, synoptic parallels, and complete references to Old Testament quotations. This edition also includes a revision and expansion of Alexander Souter's "A Pocket Lexicon of the Greek New Testament." Long a favorite among biblical scholars, Souter's "Pocket Lexicon" offers concise yet clear English definitions and helpful grammatical information on every Greek word used in the New Testament. A Foreword by renowned New Testament textual scholar, Dr. Eldon J. Epp, sets the Westcott-Hort text in historical perspective for contemporary readers. FEATURES - Detailed apparatus comparing the Westcott/Hort text with differences in the 27th edition of Nestle/Aland and Robinson/Pierpont Byzantine editions - Complete references to Old Testament citations and synoptic gospel parallels - English section headings for easy navigation - Revised and expanded Souter Greek dictionary - Bible maps

Book excerpt: In the ancient disciple-rabbi relationship, the disciple would follow the rabbi so closely that he would be covered in the dust kicked up from his rabbi's feet. Thousands of years later, though we walk on roads of pavement and not dust, we are still called to be disciples—to follow our Rabbi, Jesus Christ, so closely that we are covered with his life, changed, and made new. Into His Likeness provides an approachable but in-depth exploration of how to live as a disciple and experience the transformation Jesus wants to work in our lives. We might desire to live more like Christ, but we know we fall short. This book simply helps us follow those initial promptings of the Holy Spirit, so that we may more intentionally encounter Jesus anew each day and be more disposed to his grace changing us ever more into his likeness.
