Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all likelihood, most of us wonder about the end of life here, how to be ready when it comes, and what the future holds. We hear all sorts of answers from many sources, from wild to probable. Many people believe that heaven is a place where all the good go after we die, so “You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry,” and that heaven is everlasting and to be much preferred over the alternative—hell. Consider this question: What seems to have been God’s primary purpose for heaven? One answer would be that He wants to populate it with human beings who are most like His Son, Jesus Christ. But how could that be accomplished? My thoughts on the broad subject of death come from knowing Jesus and walking with Him for about seventy-eight years. I came to know Him as a child, having heard His call upon my life. Our conversations along the way led me to give Him my best in training my mind and heart, in practical service through several open doors, through marriage and family, through struggles and accomplishments, through many sorrows and sicknesses, and through years of disability and retirement. Like old Apostle John who learned so much from the Risen Lord in his long life, I believe that He has laid some things upon my heart that must be shared. Hence, this book. Here, you will find insights that may correct things you’ve always believed, give help with understanding, or learn approaches that you never considered, pricks of conscience, or just delightful affirmations. Here are a few of the ideas you’ll find here: Where does it start...and end? The eternal “now” The Eternal One—not three “Let there be,” and there is—but only if!” Creation and development When you became only “a mortal” God who keeps speaking—“Why don’t you answer?” First death and resurrection and Second death and resurrection The sin that God can’t forgive “Through death into life everlasting, He leads” “He leads, and we follow Him there.” Heaven or hell or an alternative? Sin’s consequences before Abram Mansions Ritual or relationship? The startling paradigm shift How the Word becomes personal. Being at home in heaven What if there’s a stalemate? How to know for sure Here and now with me as though He is nowhere else He loves you intensely! “Always”—the victory habit and more. Blessings! —Brother Wes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this deeply personal and daring meditation, eminent theologian Jürgen Moltmann challenges many closely held beliefs about the experience of dying, the nature of death, and the hope of eternal life. Moving deftly between biblical, theological, and existential domains, Moltmann argues that while we know intimately the experience of dying--both our loved ones' dying and, ultimately, our own--death itself is a mystery. Are those who have died in fact dead? If the dead are alive, how or in what respect? When the dead awaken to eternal life, who wakes? Moltmann's interrogations yield surprising and beautiful fruits. The living soul that awakens to eternal life is not a ghost in a machine, but the Lebensgestalt, the shape and story of a life, its human and divine contexts, its whole. Drawing on themes from his oeuvre's entire arc, Resurrected to Eternal Life testifies to the inner unity of Moltmann's theology: the cross, the Spirit, the kingdom, the end, and the hope that makes the end present here and now. Seasoned readers of Moltmann will find in these pages a capstone of a lifetime of theological exploration, while those new to his complex thought will find a concise and elegant entry point into his voluminous work.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

Book excerpt: With her client's husband somewhere between this world and the next, attorney Alexia Lindale makes an everlasting choice. The youngest son of a family consumed by greed, Baxter Richardson lingers on this earth in a coma. His wife wants him dead to protect her secrets. His brother wants him dead to gain control of the family empire. And though Baxter's father fights to keep him alive, even he has ulterior motives. But Baster has a surprising ally. A classically trained painist, Ted Morgan believes music can be used as prayer. And Ted's divinely-inspired playing has been slowly pulling Baxter back from the brink of death. Attorney Alexia Lindale represents Baxter's wife, Rena, but has no idea that she and her client are being played in a game that has higher stakes than a single legal case. As Baxter grows stronger, the more endangered he becomes. As Alexia navigates her responsibilities to her client, her relationship with the gifted musician, and her new relationship with God, she must discern the truth as it pertains to life, death, and life everlasting.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book excerpt: It is generally known that the spirit realm is the transcendent or absolute reality that actually gave birth to our temporal reality or what we know to be physical, material, temporary realm. Because our existence owes its source to the spiritual realm, the latter is actually what dictates events in our realm. It takes no effort to realize that not only is the bible an integrated message but also one that has its origins in another dimension of existence, beyond what we are accustomed to. Have you wondered how the Bible accurately describes scientific phenomena millennia before science arrived on the planet? How on earth did Moses know how the world was created when no man was on the scene at the beginning of creation? It does not take a genius to fathom that there has to be a supreme being, a God out there, who is the source and sustainer of all life. Like I said earlier on whether we are aware or not, life in this temporary material realm is influenced, even directed from another realm—the spiritual. That is why it is important that we understand this realm and cooperate with it to get it to work with and for us. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” He is saying that our focus should be on the unseen, eternal realm, which is the real reality because that is permanent as opposed to this realm that is but a passing shadow. The need to focus on the things that don’t change becomes even more crucial because of the sheer amount and complexity of change that we have to contend with in our lives. Changes in technology, science, medicine, career, and the work place are so fast and complex that we need something strong enough to provide the necessary moorings to hold our lives in place and provide the necessary balance to our lives if we are not to be swept away by the change. Even though change is unsettling, disruptive, and can be scary, even good change, it brings opportunities and progress. So how do we maintain our sanity and embrace the necessary change? It is my conviction that we do this by turning to and focusing on the things that do not change. The things that do not change include God and his word; humans in our basic makeup and constitution; and our biological makeup and sexuality, family, society, relationships, parenting, etc. Of course, the way these may be defined may change over time, but the fact is that they are there. This is why it is important to access the right information from the source of this realm, the spirit realm, to influence and direct our lives in this realm because even though the way man has come to view certain things may have changed over time, the spirit realm is not subject to same change as this. This is the reason why it is important to know God’s truth on every issue of life and apply it accordingly. Now the Bible says that Jesus is the only legitimate door to the spirit realm. According to John 10:9–10, Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” He is the only authorized dealer mandated by God to take people into the Father’s presence and, hence, the only mediator between man and God. As you embrace the truths enshrined in this book, understand that you are calling on a power greater than yourself, from a source beyond this temporal realm to intervene in your life and that of your family. Make the truths enshrined in Eternal Nuggets your truths by incorporating them into your life and see the invisible but real hand of God move in your life to bring much needed blessing, peace, and contentment into every area of your life.

Book excerpt: The Apostles Creed is one of the earliest summaries of the Christian faith, and is accepted by most forms of Christianity. It is a simple statement of 12 beliefs each central to Christianity. It begins with: I believe, and each of the 12 statements is the statement of a certain belief, thus the title of the book. This is an important contribution to understanding the meaning of Christianity. Written in easy to understand, but never superficial, language. This is a particularly engaging book, for anyone who wants to understand Christian thought, and gain a deeper appreciation of it. This book can also be used to great effect in Church discussion groups.
