Book excerpt: Being able to analyse different types of text is an essential skill for students of literature. Texts is a new kind of book which shows students how to use literary theory to approach a wide range of literary, cultural and media texts of the kind studied on today's courses. These texts range from short stories, autobiographies, political speeches, websites and lyrics to films such as The Matrix and Harry Potter and from television's Big Brother to shopping malls, celebrities, and rock videos. Each chapter combines an introduction to the text and aspects of its critical reception with an analysis using one of sixteen key approaches, from established angles like feminism, postcolonial studies and deconstruction to newer areas such as ecocriticism, trauma theory, and ethical criticism. Each chapter also indicates alternative ways of reading the text by drawing on other critical approaches.

Book excerpt: Over the past ten years, the work of Michael Eric Dyson has become the first stop for readers, writers, and thinkers eager for uncommon wisdom on the racial and political dynamics of contemporary America. Whether writing on religion or sexuality or notions of whiteness, on Martin Luther King, Jr. or Tupac Shakur, Dyson's keen insight and rhetorical flair continue to surprise and challenge. This collection gathers the best of Dyson's growing body of work: his most incisive commentary, his most stirring passages, and his sharpest, most probing and broadminded critical analyses. From Michael Jordan to Derrida, Ralph Ellison to the diplomacy of Colin Powell, the mastery and ease with which Dyson tackles just about any subject is without parallel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The prophet who has a dream let him tell a dream and he, who has My Word, let him speak My Word faithfully." (Jeremiah 23:28) The Word of the LORD God came to me in a dream the first time in 1982, and I was told to proclaim the coming of the Son of Man for seventeen years. My full testimony, biography, and the lessons God had taught me throughout those years are written in the book "The Witness to the Coming of Jesus Christ," published in 1999. The LORD God spoke to me a second time in a dream and said, "TELL MY COVENANT PEOPLE THEY WILL NOT BE HARMED " The third time, the Messiah had come. He awakened me from a deep sleep and released the Seventh Seal. These three prophetic events were given to make known, to the church and the world, our current position in Biblical Prophecy. The LORD God has also led me through a series of events which revealed that the invisible Kingdom of the Son of Man had come. Although it is concealed, the Messiah revealed it two-thousand years ago through many parables in the Holy Bible. Now, I have been called to reveal its existence so that others may prepare to enter into it. Further studies will leave no doubt that this kingdom is on earth now. You will see and understand...  The unseen Kingdom of the Son of Man  The Kingdom through the faith of a child  What will be required to enter His Kingdom  How the dead in our Messiah will enter in first  When the faithful saints will be transferred into it  The warnings and consequences of being left outside  What will happen to the world after the Kingdom doors close

This book was released on 2015-09-04 with total page 934 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book is the outcome of a long project begun thirty years ago. It is a book on the makings of pan-Africanism through the predicaments of being black in a world dominated by being white. The book is a tribute and celebration of the efforts of the African-American and African-Caribbean Diaspora who took the initiative and the audacity to fight and liberate themselves from the shackles of slavery. It is also a celebration of those Africans who in their own way carried the torch of inspiration and resilience to save and reconstruct the Free Humanism of Africa. As a story of the rise from the shackles of slavery and poverty to the summit of Victors of their Renaissance Identity and Self-Determination as a People, the book is the story of African refusal to celebrate victimhood. The book also situates women as central actors in the Pan-African project, which is often presented as an exclusively masculine endeavour. It introduces a balanced gender approach and diagnosis of the Women actors of Pan-Africanism which was very much lacking. The problem of balkanisation of Africa on post-colonial affiliations and colonial linguistic lines has taken its toll on Africas building of its common identity and personality. The result is that Africans are more remote to each other in their pigeon-hole-nation-states which put more restrictions for African inter-mobility, coupled by education and cultural affiliations, the communication and transportation and trading networks which are still tied more to their colonial masters than among themselves. This book looks into the problem of the new wave of Pan-Africanism and what strategies that can be proposed for a more participatory Pan-Africanism inspired by the everyday realities of African masses at home and in the diaspora. This book is the first book of its kind that gives a comprehensive and multidimensional coverage of Pan-Africanism. It is a very timely and vital compendium.
