Book Synopsis Unfolding the Matter of Nuclei by : Società italiana di fisica
Download or read book Unfolding the Matter of Nuclei written by Società italiana di fisica and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleus and its constituents are a challenging problem. The lectures collected in this book present a broad and comprehensive review of the current knowledge about nuclei. They cover topics such as searching for signatures of the quarks in nuclei with electromagnetic probes and, at much higher energies, for signatures of the quark-gluon plasma in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions. The attempts to obtain new nuclei in the laboratory are also discussed, as well as the central role played by nuclear physics in the development of weak interactions. Progress in all these areas rests on a deeper theoretical handling of the nuclear and nucleon’s structure. The latter can also be addressed by relying on numerical solutions of QCD on a discrete space-time lattice. The advancement of computational capabilities has spurred a growing interest in this approach. Finally, the book deals with different paths toward solving non-perturbative QCD.
Book Synopsis Hyperspherical Harmonics Expansion Techniques by : Tapan Kumar Das
Download or read book Hyperspherical Harmonics Expansion Techniques written by Tapan Kumar Das and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-26 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a generalized theoretical technique for solving the fewbody Schrödinger equation. Straight forward approaches to solve it in terms of position vectors of constituent particles and using standard mathematical techniques become too cumbersome and inconvenient when the system contains more than two particles. The introduction of Jacobi vectors, hyperspherical variables and hyperspherical harmonics as an expansion basis is an elegant way to tackle systematically the problem of an increasing number of interacting particles. Analytic expressions for hyperspherical harmonics, appropriate symmetrisation of the wave function under exchange of identical particles and calculation of matrix elements of the interaction have been presented. Applications of this technique to various problems of physics have been discussed. In spite of straight forward generalization of the mathematical tools for increasing number of particles, the method becomes computationally difficult for more than a few particles. Hence various approximation methods have also been discussed. Chapters on the potential harmonics and its application to Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) have been included to tackle dilute system of a large number of particles. A chapter on special numerical algorithms has also been provided. This monograph is a reference material for theoretical research in the few-body problems for research workers starting from advanced graduate level students to senior scientists.

Download or read book Few body dynamics written by Asoke Mitra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few Body Dynamics presents the proceedings of the VII International Conference on Few Body Problems in Nuclear and Particle Physics, held in Delhi from December 29, 1975 to January 3, 1976. Invited speakers talked about topics ranging from dynamic equations and approximation methods to computation and experimental techniques, few body bound states, breakup reactions and polarization, few electron systems, and photon and electron probes on few body systems. Speakers also covered few body reactions with mesons and resonances, few body aspects of nuclear reactions and scattering, three body forces in nuclei, and quark physics. Comprised of four parts encompassing 145 chapters, this volume summarizes the status and results from experimental facilities such as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in India, TRIUMF in Canada, and the Clinton P. Anderson Meson Physics Facility in the United States. It also discusses completeness relations in scattering theory for non-Hermitian potentials, ambiguities in phase-shift analysis, and parametrization of the half-shell function when the eigenchannel has a bound state. The next chapters focus on possible phenomenological forms for the two-body local potential, nuclear three-body forces arising from triple-boson couplings, and concepts such as N-particle transit operators, three-body separable expansion amplitude, the three-body problem with energy-dependent potentials, and the four-body problem. The book also introduces the reader to triton with realistic potentials, backward proton-deuteron scattering, and deep inelastic lepton-nucleon interactions at high energy. This book will benefit physicists, students, and researchers who want to learn about the dynamics of few body systems.

This book was released on 1994-08-31 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This seminar focusses on the key issues addressed in measuring the hyperon-nucleon strong and weak interaction observables and in modelling the hyperon-nucleon interaction. Both quark and baryon pictures are addressed. Results from recent experiments at BNL, KEK, CERN and FNAL, including hyperon production, polarization and decay, are explored; both S = -1 and S = -2 systems are included. The status of our understanding of hyperon weak decays in the nuclear medium is examined and the constraints placed upon our modelling of the hyperon-nucleon interaction by our knowledge of hypernuclear properties are also investigated. Finally, the present status of, as well as future prospects for, the measurements of the hyperon-nucleon interaction are summarized.

Book Synopsis Few-body Methods: Principles And Applications - Proceedings Of The International Symposium by : Teck-kah Lim
Download or read book Few-body Methods: Principles And Applications - Proceedings Of The International Symposium written by Teck-kah Lim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1986-09-01 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an elementary introduction to classical analysis on normed spaces, with special attention paid to fixed points, calculus, and ordinary differential equations. It contains a full treatment of vector measures on delta rings without assuming any scalar measure theory and hence should fit well into existing courses. The relation between group representations and almost periodic functions is presented. The mean values offer an infinitedimensional analogue of measure theory on finitedimensional Euclidean spaces. This book is ideal for beginners who want to get through the basic material as soon as possible and then do their own research immediately.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects the papers given at the European Workshop "Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of Hadronic Few-Body Systems" which, adhering to an invitation of the European Few-Body Physics Research Committee, was organized in Rome on October 7-11, 1986. All papers presented at the workshop appear in the volume, plus two papers which could not be presented orally because their authors were at the last moment unable to attend. The list of contents closely follows the programme of the workshop. The workshop, attended by 128 American, European, and Japanese physicists from 60 different institutions and universities, was sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (lNFN) and was organized by the INFN Section located at the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS), which kindly provided the venue for the meeting and many related facilities. The goal of the workshop was to summarize the present situa tion and the future perspectives concerning the theoretical descriptions of strongly interacting few-body systems and their experimental investigation by electromagnetic and hadronic probes, mainly at intermediate energies. To this end, representatives from most international groups working within different theoretical methods and with different experimental facilities, were invited and asked to illustrate their latest results and future research programs; the intention was to provide, by this way, an impartial and broad information which could be useful to whom is actively working in few body physics, as well as to young students entering this field of research.
Book Synopsis New Vistas in Electro-Nuclear Physics by : Edward L. Tomusiak

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute "New Vistas in Electro-Nuclear Physics" was held in Banff, Alberta, Canada from August 22 to September 4, 1985. This volume con tains the lecture notes from that Institute. The idea to organize this Institute coincided with the award of funding for a pulse stretcher ring at the University of Saskatchewan's Linear Accelerator Laboratory. This together with the high level of interest in electron accelerators worldwide convinced us that it was an appropriate time to discuss the physics to be learned with such machines. In particular that physics which requires high energy and/or high duty cycle accelerators for its extraction was intended to be the focus of the Institute. Thus the scope of the lec tures was wide, with topics ranging from the structure of the trinucleons to quark models of nucleons, QCD, and QHD. The theme however was that we are just trying to under stand the nucleus and that the electromagnetic probe can serve as a powerful tool in such a quest.
