Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by some of the world's leading practitioners - and pioneers - in the field, Thoracic Endoscopy is the first up-to-the-minute, expert reference for clinicians with a solid foundation in diagnostic bronchoscopy and chest medicine needing to extend their clinical expertise in response to two decades of rapid development. Thoracic Endoscopy covers four key areas of practice: advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy the latest techniques for interventional bronchoscopy — including the traditional rigid bronchoscopy techniques, ablative instruments and stents — and a discussion of endobronchial lung reduction and gene therapy a window to the pleura, covering the field of pleuroscopy and the advances in diagnosis and treatment clinical problems and methodologies, and strategies for solving them using interventional techniques Thoracic Endoscopy presents the only coherent guide to the full range of techniques and practice patterns, and is the essential reference for both experienced interventional pulmonologists and students beginning to practice in this rapidly-developing field.

Book excerpt: This book provides an unbiased and evidence-based guide to the potential role of interventional pulmonology as an alternative to thoracic surgery. Interventional pulmonology is a new and quickly growing sub-specialty in pulmonary medicine and increasingly more pulmonologists are turning to interventional therapies over the more costly and invasive surgical options. The text thoroughly presents detailed coverage of and diagnostic methods for many diseases and conditions that pulmonologists encounter daily, including: diffuse lung infiltrates, solitary lung nodule, undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion, pneumothorax, hemoptysis, and airway foreign body. Experts then detail treatment options, from both a surgical and interventional perspective, with guidance on: when each procedure is most appropriate, what can be performed by a pulmonologist (with guidelines on how those procedures are done) versus what needs to be referred to a thoracic surgeon or an intervention pulmonologist, and the benefits and disadvantages involved with each option. This is an ideal guide for pulmonologists, trainees, and students to better understand the full scope of possible treatment options for their patients and to make the best informed decision about patient care.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first version of this atlas was released as video-assisted major pulmonary resections were just emerging as a valid alternative to conventional techniques. In this second edition, many different techniques have been described, depending on the use or non-use of an accessory mini-thoracotomy and on the use or non-use of endoscopic instrumentation and video display. One of these techniques is the totally endoscopic approach, in which only endoscopic instruments and monitor control are used. This is the technique that will be described in this atlas. The purpose of this atlas is to describe each endoscopic pulmonary lobectomy and segmentectomy step by step, relying on brief technical notes and high-quality still pictures which are orientated and labeled to make them as comprehensible as possible. Each chapter is introduced by an anatomical background which is illustrated by three-dimensional reconstructions. Technical «tricks» and specific dangers are mentioned by pictograms. The technical descriptions of this atlas are based on the author’s technique, which can be different from other video-assisted approaches. Our intent is that surgeons embarking in video-assisted major pulmonary resections-whatever the approach they use-can find helpful hints and take their bearings in this totally new vision of pulmonary and mediastinal anatomy.Compared to the previous version, all chapters have been rewritten, taking into account the progresses of the technique and the technology and some new chapters have been added. Most steps of the procedures are now illustrated, not only with pictures, but also with a video clip.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to familiarize readers with the overall scope of endoscopic surgeries for the treatment of various types of spinal disease. State of the art techniques for minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine are precisely described. The coverage includes cutting-edge endoscopic solutions for spinal canal stenosis or instability and low back pain. All technical aspects are explained in detail, and the text is complemented by many helpful illustrations. A further key feature is the provision of accompanying surgical videos, which will be of value to both novice and experienced surgeons. As a result of recent technological advances, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures are now being used for the treatment of patients with spinal problems in various institutes across the world. It can be anticipated that, in the near future, these procedures will be regarded as mainstream in spine surgery. The authors hope that this book will motivate the reader to participate in this trend, which promises important benefits for patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and illustrates a variety of minimally invasive approaches to the thoracic spine, covering procedures applicable in not only degenerative diseases but also deformities and trauma. Surgery to the thoracic spine is demanding because of the surrounding ribs, lungs, heart, and large blood vessels and the challenges posed by the vulnerable spinal cord within a relatively small spinal canal. Consequently, postsurgical morbidity is often high. In this context, minimally invasive surgery offers significant benefits, but to date, comprehensive coverage in textbooks is lacking owing to the limited experience in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques. This book will be ideal for all who are searching for clear guidance that is faithful to the established principles of spine surgery and evidence-based medicine. In addition to the comprehensive coverage of procedures appropriate in different pathologies, including thoracic disc herniation, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, ossification of the ligamentum flavum, and stenosis, individual chapters address the transforaminal endoscopic approach, interventional treatment, intraoperative neuromonitoring, and navigation for thoracic spine surgery.
