Book Synopsis MWF Seeking BFF by : Rachel Bertsche
Download or read book MWF Seeking BFF written by Rachel Bertsche and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2011-12-20 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Rachel Bertsche first moves to Chicago, she’s thrilled to finally share a zip code, let alone an apartment, with her boyfriend. But shortly after getting married, Bertsche realizes that her new life is missing one thing: friends. Sure, she has plenty of BFFs—in New York and San Francisco and Boston and Washington, D.C. Still, in her adopted hometown, there’s no one to call at the last minute for girl talk over brunch or a reality-TV marathon over a bottle of wine. Taking matters into her own hands, Bertsche develops a plan: She’ll go on fifty-two friend-dates, one per week for a year, in hopes of meeting her new Best Friend Forever. In her thought-provoking, uproarious memoir, Bertsche blends the story of her girl-dates (whom she meets everywhere from improv class to friend rental websites) with the latest social research to examine how difficult—and hilariously awkward—it is to make new friends as an adult. In a time when women will happily announce they need a man but are embarrassed to admit they need a BFF, Bertsche uncovers the reality that no matter how great your love life is, you’ve gotta have friends.
Book Synopsis Yes... My Retarded Ass Signed Up by : M!Chael Mayhem
Download or read book Yes... My Retarded Ass Signed Up written by M!Chael Mayhem and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title for my novel is taken from a scripture verse out of the book of Revelation. The connection is made by relating that verse to Jeffery Lucas, the main character in The Pretender Lamb. Prior to meeting Jessica Thompson, Jeffery spends most of his early life only pretending to be what others expected of him While he was on a Fall vacation in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, Jeffery meets and falls in love with Jessica, a school teacher from Madison, Wisconsin. A misunderstanding during the single night they stayed on the summit of Mt. Le Conte leads them into a journey of slopes and grades over the following years of their lives. The hopes and dreams of both Jeffery and Jessica are laid bare as they allow themselves to be completely open with another person for the first time in their lives. Jeffery tells of how he was raised in a small Iowa town and learned at an early age to fend for himself. Jessica tells of how fate had found her still single at thirty, but with a satisfied mind. The Pretender Lamb is a love story bursting at the seams with twists and turns. Its pages are splashed with equal amounts of humor, sadness, faith and hope. Those on both sides of the morality issue will get a chuckle from this story although they may need a good supply of tissues to dab at their tears as well. The Pretender Lamb takes a pass at explaining the experience of dejavu from a Christian point of view. Although the explanation is no more than an opinion, it should provoke some deeper thought on the subject. Anyone who has had heart problems, or known someone that has, will feel a strong tugging at their emotions as they get lost in the lives of Jeffery and Jessica. The Pretender Lamb is a story of failing health and healing, and of broken spirits and those lifted up again.
Book Synopsis Journey of a Country Soul by : Pitt G. Thome
Download or read book Journey of a Country Soul written by Pitt G. Thome and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monsignor Felix Newton Pitt (1894-1971) was a towering figure in the history of Catholic education in the US, and this definitive biography gives a shining example of an individual who dedicated his life in service of his faith and left behind an enduring legacy. The book traces Pitts journey from his humble beginning as a young missionary of the 1920s in rural Kentucky to his career as an innovative educator in Louisville, where he established the Catholic elementary school system that became a nationwide model for parochial education that properly educated and catechized the youth, including students with special needs. Along the way, Father Pitt exerted an influence beyond his devoted flock as an engaging civic leader in the greater community, in an era of bigotry when the Catholic Church was often under attack. As a panelist on the popular TV program, The Moral Side of the News, Father Pitt was a pioneer of ecumenical broadcasting and a guiding force of church growth and stability during years of cultural upheaval. This biography bears the fruit of exhaustive research, a true labor of love. Lavishly illustrated with photos of the people and places it documents, the book does double duty as church and family history joined and celebrated in one priests life story. It features extensive, eloquent excerpts from Father Pitts diaries and letters and published articles that reveal the progress of one mans spiritual pilgrimage, as he overcomes doubts from within and obstacles from without. It is an inspiring journey of faith and perseverance, where a gifted young man follows his true calling by taking strength from God and his devoted mother. It will appeal not only to present-day Catholic educators and those who may be discerning a religious vocation, but to any reader who believes in a higher guiding light in ones life and who holds dear the importance of family in our society.

Book Synopsis The Life and Loves of Victoria by : Briony Beredo
Download or read book The Life and Loves of Victoria written by Briony Beredo and published by Ukiyoto Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-06 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when a young, liberated woman graduates from college and moves abroad for her first job? This question and more are answered in my novel, The Life and Loves of Victoria. With a word count of about 43,500, it follows the story of a modern and liberated Asian woman named Victoria (Vic). She’s in her 20s and has just graduated from college. She moves abroad for her first job as a customer service executive for a big shipping line and goes dating mostly foreign men. From an unnamed country to Singapore and back to the Philippines, the novel chronicles the minute, intimate details of her romantic albeit sexual connections; her losses, survival, triumphs, and what she has to go through to have the life she aspires to have. Victoria is created not out of some pretentious literary concept: she’s based on a real person and the story is based on that real person’s story. There’s no attempt to glorify her. As for the male characters, they’re not portrayed out of concepts of how men are and/or how men should be; they’re based on real people. The actions and dialogues of the male characters are written out of real occurrences. There are a good number of sex scenes. They’re in plain language and don’t spare details. But although the novel is full of these graphic scenes, they’re simply not what the novel is about. The scenes may be brutal and shocking but they’re essential in portraying Vic’s lust for life and love, and her desperation.

Book Synopsis SEX, DRUGS, ROCK and WAR: The Boomer Generation by : Daniel Muller
Download or read book SEX, DRUGS, ROCK and WAR: The Boomer Generation written by Daniel Muller and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have all heard the nicknames for the current generations in the news. Besides the ‘Silent Generation’ (a.k.a. The Greatest Generation) born before 1946, there are Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y (also known as the Millennials), and Generation Z. In the past few years, there has been an increasing amount of coverage and discussion about the growing frustration between these generations. Some call it a generational war. Much of the debate has to do with the Boomer generation, with younger generations claiming various failures of this generation to provide a world or country that is sustainable and affordable. TV shows, podcasts, newspaper and magazine articles, movies, and social media have increasingly begun analysis and discussion about this war. It is a hot topic and, unfortunately, becoming more emotional. Most of the analysis and coverage has to do with emerging information about each generation, such as wealth accumulation, party affiliation, changing opinions, habits, values and relationships. Facts and surveys abound, discussing all of these aspects of the generations, and more. But we all innately understand that generalizations and summaries about the generations can be dangerous, and can only tell a part of the story. What is the answer to this generational conflict that is beginning to stress friendships, acquaintances, and even families? How can we diffuse the emotion and get to positive solutions that will help heal the divide? Daniel Muller attempts to understand this growing generational conflict at a more micro level, namely by documenting and sharing the individual life stories of a somewhat random collection of ‘everyday’ Baby Boomers. Besides their life stories, he relates their opinions about a series of hot topics today, all in an attempt to better understand what linkages may exist between their environment, families, early and mid-life years, and how they think and behave today. ‘SEX, DRUGS, ROCK and WAR: The Boomer Generation’ is an enjoyable collection of very diverse life stories. In addition, Muller shares a fascinating analysis of Boomer values and opinions, and hypothesizes about the underlying potential causes of the growing conflict between generations. Finally, he shares his suggestions to calm the generational wars.

Download or read book Trust the Flames written by Katie Delimon and published by Katie Delimon. This book was released on 2023-02-18 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Trust the Flames is a palate cleanser and a much-needed shot of reality. In a world of highlight reels and curated depictions of life, Katie Delimon assures us that the path to a beautiful life is often a rugged, messy, unfiltered one. Read this memoir." - Alicia Cook, best-selling poet and author of Sorry I Haven’t Texted You Back. Katie Delimon’s debut memoir takes us on an unforgettable—and deeply relatable—adventure as she unabashedly shines a spotlight on all of her humanness including her shame, trauma, recovery, and ultimately, her spiritual awakening. Woven into Delimon’s journey of self-realization and healing is a remarkable love story of a twin flame journey, which just gets more incredible with each turn of the page! (Don't worry; you’ll learn exactly what a “twin flame is” as you read on!) After experiencing life in the deep backwoods of West Virginia, the grimy brilliance of New York City, and the beautiful beaches of Australia, Delimon ultimately begins her search for serenity during a stint in South East Asia, where she’s robbed and left penniless, catapulting her desire to uncover calm out of chaos and mindfulness out of mindlessness. It’s a true story of transformation, generational trauma and parental loss; of finding solace and safety in the silence of ashrams; of love dying, but then ultimately wildly blooming in the deserts of Burning Man. Delimon is a phoenix rising from the ashes, a woman who burned through the layers of who she thought she should be, in order to find out who she truly was.
