Book Synopsis The Nature of Brucellosis by : Wesley William Spink
Download or read book The Nature of Brucellosis written by Wesley William Spink and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nature of Brucellosis was first published in 1956.Though the problems of brucellosis vary from one country to another and even within the same country, the disease is recognized as worldwide in scope. It is realized everywhere that brucellosis is primarily a disease of domestic animals and that the human illness cannot be reduced or eliminated as long as the animal reservoir remains. In this volume Dr. Spink, a world authority on the disease, presents a comprehensive review of human and animal brucellosis and the results of important new research. The book will make a significant addition to the libraries of physicians, veterinarians, public health workers, clinical pathologists, and those engaged in basic biological research.Much of the material is based on Dr. Spink's clinical experience with human brucellosis as seen at the University of Minnesota Hospitals for 20 years and as observed in various parts of the world. He provides complete clinical descriptions of the disease with many illustrations and summarizes the protocols of 244 cases. He describes in detail methods of diagnosis and treatment for human brucellosis and outlines procedures for preventing the disease. The report of research covers studies on tissue reactions, intracellular parasitism, hypersensitivity, and the pathogenesis of the disease in animals and man. A survey of the literature provides a bibliography of almost 1,000 references. There are over 60 illustrations.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a review and analysis of the research landscape for zoonoses and marginalized infections which affect poor populations, and a list of research priorities to support disease control. The work is the output of the disease reference group on zoonoses and marginalized infectious diseases (DRG6), which is part of an independent think tank of international experts, established and funded by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), to identify key research priorities through the review of research evidence and input from stakeholder consultations. The report covers a diverse range of diseases including zoonotic helminth protozoa, viral and bacterial infections considered to be neglected and associated with poverty. Disease-specific research issues were elaborated under individual disease sections and many common priorities were readily identified among the disease such as need for new and/or improved drugs and regimens, diagnostics and, where appropriate, vaccines. The disease specific priorities are described as micro priorities compared with the macro level priorities which will drive such policies as the need for improved surveillance; the need for inter-sectoral interaction between health, livestock, agriculture, natural resources and wildlife in tackling the zoonotic diseases; and the need for a true assessment of the burden of the zoonoses. This is one of ten disease and thematic reference group reports that have come out of the TDR Think Tank, all of which have contributed to the development of the Global Report for Research on Infectious Diseases of Poverty.
Book Synopsis Agriculture Investment Sourcebook by : World Bank
Download or read book Agriculture Investment Sourcebook written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005-04-08 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investing to promote agricultural growth and poverty reduction is a central pillar of the World Bank's current rural strategy, 'Reaching the Rural Poor' (2003). This 'Sourcebook' addresses how to implement the rural strategy, by sharing information on investment options and identifying innovative approaches that will aid the design of future lending programs for agriculture. It provides generic good practices and many examples that demonstrate investment in agriculture can provide rewarding and sustainable returns to development efforts. It is divided into eleven self-contained modules. Each module contains three different types of subunits that can also be stand-alone documents: I. Module Overview II. Agricultural Investment Notes III. Innovative Activity Profiles. The stand-alone nature of the subunits allows flexibility and adaptability of the material. Selected readings and web links are also provided for readers who seek more in-depth information. The 'Sourcebook' draws on a wide range of experiences from donor agencies, governments, institutions, and other groups active in agricultural development. It is an invaluable reference tool for policy makers, professionals, academics and students, and anyone with an interest in agricultural investments.

Book excerpt: Since the 2014 Ebola outbreak many public- and private-sector leaders have seen a need for improved management of global public health emergencies. The effects of the Ebola epidemic go well beyond the three hardest-hit countries and beyond the health sector. Education, child protection, commerce, transportation, and human rights have all suffered. The consequences and lethality of Ebola have increased interest in coordinated global response to infectious threats, many of which could disrupt global health and commerce far more than the recent outbreak. In order to explore the potential for improving international management and response to outbreaks the National Academy of Medicine agreed to manage an international, independent, evidence-based, authoritative, multistakeholder expert commission. As part of this effort, the Institute of Medicine convened four workshops in summer of 2015 to inform the commission report. The presentations and discussions from the Governance for Global Health Workshop are summarized in this report.
