Book Synopsis FAIRY-TALE THERAPY: SCIENTIFIC AND METHODICAL ASPECTS by : Kazachiner Olena, Boychuk Yuriy, Halii Alla
Download or read book FAIRY-TALE THERAPY: SCIENTIFIC AND METHODICAL ASPECTS written by Kazachiner Olena, Boychuk Yuriy, Halii Alla and published by International Science Group. This book was released on 2022-09-19 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our distant childhood, mothers and grandmothers told us fairy tales, not suspecting, perhaps, that by doing so they used one of the most effective methods of psychological correction – fairy-tale therapy. A fairy tale is a means of introducing a child to the world of human destinies, to history; this is the «golden key» to changing the environment, its creative, constructive transformation. The child half lives in an imaginary, unreal world, and not just lives, but actively acts in it, rebuilding it and himself. It is from this treasury that he draws information about the reality that he does not yet know, the features of the future, about which he still does not know how to think [12]. Surprisingly simple, but at the same time instructive stories were breathtaking, plunging the world of dragons, woodpeckers, brownies, beautiful princesses and evil witches. Are these simple stories simple, as it seems at first glance? Is it just an entertainment tool or a universal educational program that helps children to settle in this difficult world? The process of fairy tale therapy allows the child to actualize and realize his problems, as well as to see different ways to solve them [12, p. 84]. A fairy tale metaphor, due to its inherent special properties, turns out to be a way of building mutual understanding between children, an attitude towards oneself as an individual. In fairy tales you can find a complete list of human problems and ways to solve them. Fairy stories contain information about the dynamics of life processes. Therefore, a fairy tale can give a symbolic warning about how the situation will develop, which is important in corrective work [118, p. 35]. K.I.Chukovsky believed that the purpose of a fairy tale «is to educate a child in humanity – this marvelous ability to worry about other people's misfortunes, to rejoice in the joys of another, to experience someone else's fate as one's own. After all, a fairy tale improves, enriches and humanizes the child's psyche, since a child listening to a fairy tale feels like an active participant in it and always identifies with those of its characters who fight for justice, goodness, and freedom». A fairy tale is a means of working with the inner world of a child, surprising in terms of the strength of its psychological impact, a powerful tool for development. It is the psychological content of fairy tales, the symbolic reflection of psychological phenomena that make folk tales an indispensable tool for influencing a person [12]. A school psychologist constantly asks himself two questions: «What? » and «How?». In the sense that every day, in the case of providing psychological assistance to a child, a specialist tries to figure out what is actually happening and how to help a small client overcome the difficulties that have arisen. Searching for the answer to the question «what? » are carried out with the help of various methods of psychodiagnostics, observation, conversations with parents and teachers, etc. But when the answer to the first question becomes more or less clear, the question «how? » arises with all its cast-iron simplicity and inaccessibility. At this stage, many school psychologists, unfortunately, give in, because it is necessary to move from diagnostics to full of surprises and risk, the path of psychocorrection and psychotherapy. The enrichment of practical psychology with new means of effective work with children, provided, in particular, by such a direction as fairy tale therapy, is a gratifying fact of the last decade. Now to the notorious question «how? » found one of the beautiful and effective answers. The developing and psychotherapeutic potential of fairy tales, for all its obviousness, was not used enough by the practical psychology of education. But fairy tale therapy is effective in working not only with preschoolers or younger students, but also with teenagers and high school students. Moreover, there are psychotherapeutic fairy tales for teachers. Even a simple reading of fairy tales (especially specially created ones) gives an amazing effect and helps a person overcome various life difficulties. Fairy tales are important to child development, both educationally and psychologically, and have been shown to be therapeutically efficacious. O.Breusenko-Kuznetsov, G.Nyzhnyk, D.Sokolov, L.Terletska, N.Tsybulya and others are developing the method of fairy tale therapy in Ukraine. Studies by L.S. Vygotsky, O.V. Zaporozhets, N.S. Karpinskaya showed that a fairy tale is vital to a child, and it is a means for him to know the world around him and himself. In recent literature, fairy tales are often the object the study attracts the attention of representatives of various schools and branches of science, in particular folklorists, literary critics, psychologists, etc. A fairy tale needs a thorough new look using effective tools. In in this regard, the study of issues related to the analysis of fairy tales as a psycho-corrective method of psychological assistance to preschoolers in terms of psychological and pedagogical aspects is appropriate. The research of the above experts is about the possibility use of the method of fairy tale therapy not only in psychological, but also in pedagogical practice for didactic and developmental purposes. As for application of this method in the professional activities of a psychologist, the research on this subject is just beginning to appear on the pages scientific publications. Yes, the possibility and feasibility of using fairy tale therapy in socio-pedagogical practice indicate S. Savchenko, O. Ivanovska, N. Shkarin and others, who consider the fairy tale as a wonderful social pedagogical means of socialization, development and education of personality. At the present stage of development of education the problem of increasing the number of children with behavioral disorders and, accordingly, the problem of preventing and overcoming school non-adaptation, manifested in low performance, deviations from norms of behavior, difficulties in relationships with others. Central in the correctional education of schoolchildren is the optimization of children's activities. The method of fairy tale therapy allows solving a number of problems that arise in children of different ages. The process of fairy tale therapy allows the child to actualize and realize their problems, as well as see different ways to solve them.
Book Synopsis Blindness and Therapy in Late Medieval French and Italian Poetry by : Julie Singer
Download or read book Blindness and Therapy in Late Medieval French and Italian Poetry written by Julie Singer and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2011 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of the ways in which late medieval lyric poetry can be seen to engage with contemporary medical theory. This book argues that late medieval love poets, from Petrarch to Machaut and Charles d'Orléans, exploit scientific models as a broad framework within which to redefine the limits of the lyric subject and his body. Just as humoraltheory depends upon principles of likes and contraries in order to heal, poetry makes possible a parallel therapeutic system in which verbal oppositions and substitutions counter or rewrite received medical wisdom. The specific case of blindness, a disability that according to the theories of love that predominated in the late medieval West foreclosed the possibility of love, serves as a laboratory in which to explore poets' circumvention of the logical limits of contemporary medical theory. Reclaiming the power of remedy from physicians, these late medieval French and Italian poets prompt us to rethink not only the relationship between scientific and literary authority at the close of the middle ages, but, more broadly speaking, the very notion of therapy. Julie Singer is Assistant Professor of French at Washington University, St Louis.
Book Synopsis Where Angels Fear to Tread by : Susan Dale
Download or read book Where Angels Fear to Tread written by Susan Dale and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-08 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where Angels Fear to Tread highlights some of the ethical and emotional challenges which arise for counsellors when their clients’ thoughts and behaviours become suicidal. It gives insight into how people can, and do, use suicide as a way of coping with overwhelming emotional pain, and the tension this creates in the balance between the ethical guidelines the counselling profession has adopted to protect clients against malpractice (and protect counsellors against litigation) and the needs and viewpoint of the client. The book also shows a dynamic narrative research methodology in action. There has been a deliberate move away from the traditional “expert” and “subject” positions predominating research, and priority given to the telling of previously marginalised stories in ways that are evocative, congruent with the therapeutic endeavour. The research process is shown as a social construction of lived experience that navigates the borders between narrative research and narrative therapy conveying a distinctive perspective on both the subject matter and the dynamics of both therapeutic and research relationships.

Each chapter is intended to highlight diverse perspectives and uses of poetic inquiry, thereby highlighting commonalities and differences in praxis, that include: - Critical discussion around poetry and its uses in each poet-scholar’s diverse practices (e.g., research, writing, personal development, healthcare, mental health, ecology and/or scholarship). - An example of poetry that showcases their approach(es) in action. - Insights into the crafting of their poetry (i.e., what choices were made? why were specific choices made?) - An exploration of how their poetic work links to the vast rhizomatic array of poetic inquiry. This volume is well-suited for new scholars, looking for ways to integrate poetry into their praxis, and experienced scholars who wish to further their understanding of the capaciousness of poetic inquiry as a valuable method, methodology, tool and/or approach. Book Synopsis The Pursuit of Wisdom and Happiness in Education by : Sean Steel
Download or read book The Pursuit of Wisdom and Happiness in Education written by Sean Steel and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern scholarship has struggled to come to terms with the meaning of wisdom and its significance in the field of education. This book examines the importance of pursuing wisdom in schools by turning to ancient and medieval sources for clarification concerning the nature of wisdom. Sean Steel argues that our current emphasis on the development of rigorous critical-analytic thinking skills, on assessment, and on accountability in education has negatively impacted the ability of schools to foster an environment in which both students and teachers might pursue wisdom. Although in recent times efforts have been made to incorporate the pursuit of wisdom into schools through Philosophy for Children (P4C) and contemplative education programming, such initiatives have missed their mark. Steel therefore recommends not more accountability in education for the purpose of ensuring global competitiveness, but rather the institutional promotion of periods of leisure or schole in the school day. Drawing upon his own experiences as a teacher who has tried to encourage students to search for wisdom, the author discusses some of the challenges and pitfalls of wisdom seeking. He also offers examples of various wisdom-seeking activities that might bear fruit in the classroom.

Book excerpt: This deluxe hardcover editions contains both Volume I and II of The Heart of Listening. He explains the importance of meditation, centering, and the cultivation of heartfulness in the development of compassionate practice. Milne introduces the reader to the story of visionary work—its genesis, evolution, philosophy, and practice—and explains how a grounding in meditation, sensitive touch, and intuitive perception can lead to a remarkable unfoldment in skill development. In the second volume, Milne details the anatomy, physiology, energetics, and techniques that are the essential core of visionary craniosacral work. His particular genius lies in his ability to weave a delicate tapestry of narrative, poetry, and scientific fact into a fascinating and insightful exposition of the visionary healing arts.

Book excerpt: These journal chapters of ALIVE! Volume 2 are descriptive of the author's walks outdoors enjoying nature and communing with the Lord whom he loved. Dr. Fowler writes, "The title of this book is spelled with five full capitalized uppercase letters (A-L-I-V-E) followed by a throbbing exclamation point (!) so that it will be read as a celebrational shout, an exultant affirmation upon a silver trumpet. Its title is not simply 'ALIVE!' The word 'alive' is merely a word spoken as a word, nothing more, whereas this book and title ALIVE! are both explosive shouts of joy-a vital joy that is at once exultant and serenely calm. There is a disposition, a healthful state of soul, an attitude toward the allness of life in these pages which is greater than any single insight or described experience in any one chapter. "Glad-to-be-alive is the theme which most occupies this book." Samuel W. Fowler was born November 30, 1934, in Washington, D.C. He trusted Christ as his Savior October 12, 1954. He received his Th.D.from Dallas Theological Seminary and was professor of Bible and Theology for 43 years in several Bible colleges. Dr. Fowler's previous works Coping Strategies, Meditations on the Glory of God, Afoot and Delighthearted, and ALIVE! Volume 1 have been a blessing to many Christians. Although Dr. Fowler's expertise was in Bible and Theology, he also had a deep love of nature, which inspired him to become a poet. Dr. Fowler was ushered into the presence of His Glory on July 11, 2008.

Book Synopsis Occupational Therapies without Borders - Volume 2 by : Frank Kronenberg
Download or read book Occupational Therapies without Borders - Volume 2 written by Frank Kronenberg and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2011-10-24 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The companion text to Occupational Therapy without Borders - Volume 1: learning from the spirit of survivors! In this landmark text writers from around the world discuss a plurality of occupation-based approaches that explicitly acknowledge the full potential of the art and science of occupational therapy. The profession is presented as a political possibilities-based practice, concerned with what matters most to people in real life contexts, generating practice-based evidence to complement evidence-based practice. As these writers demonstrate, occupational therapies are far more than, as some critical views have suggested, a monoculture of practice rooted in Western modernity. Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu captures the ethos of this book, which essentially calls for engagements in the service of a purpose that is larger than the advancement of our profession's interests: "Your particular approach to advancing our wellbeing and health strikes me as both unique and easily taken for granted. Whilst you value and work with medical understandings, your main aim seems to go beyond these. You seem to enable people to appreciate more consciously how what we do to and with ourselves and others on a daily basis impacts on our individual and collective wellbeing. As occupational therapists you have a significant contribution to make [.] allowing people from all walks of life to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of others." - Links philosophy with practical examples of engaging people in ordinary occupations of daily life as a means of enabling them to transform their own lives - Includes contributions from worldwide leaders in occupational therapy research and practice - Describes concrete initiatives in under-served and neglected populations - Looks at social and political mechanisms that influence people's access to useful and meaningful occupation - Chapters increase diversity of contributions – geographically, culturally and politically - Emphasis on practice, education and research maintains academic credibility - A glossary and practical examples in nearly every chapter make text more accessible to students

Then my brother sells me to Vicente Rodríguez, a ruthless drug lord. My only reprieve from my hellish reality is in the strained companionship I share with his son, Adrián. But the longer I’m trapped in his home, the more heated those looks become, and not just with hatred. They make something burn within me, too. My innocence is no longer mine to give, but Adrián might be the first one to claim it for himself. Stealing Beauty Valentina hates me. That doesn't stop me from kidnapping her, stealing her away for myself. She was brought into my home when we were teenagers, sold to my father to pay a debt. She became the only light in my dark criminal underworld, and I couldn't help loving her. Now, ten years have separated us, and I've established my reputation as the most notorious, ruthless drug lord on the west coast. I don't care if she's grown to hate me. I'm finally powerful enough to claim Valentina for myself, and no one can stop me. A decade hasn't dulled my obsessive need for her. I'll kill anyone who tries to take her from me. Valentina was always meant to be mine. Nothing will stop me from possessing her, body and soul. Pretty Hostage "She's yours now." Despite her father's involvement in running our cocaine empire, Caesar Hernández has carefully sheltered her from the brutal realities of our world. She's always been far too innocent and pure for me to drag her out of her charmed life and into my depravities. But Caesar chose to betray my ruthless boss. He'll have to prove his loyalty once again if he doesn't want any harm to come to his beloved daughter. I have her now, and he's well aware of my darker tendencies. I tried to save her from this, but I can't fight my savage nature when Sofia is in my home and under my command. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my pretty hostage.
