Book Synopsis Physics of Laser Fusion. Vol. I. Theory of the Coronal Plasma in Laser-fusion Targets by :
Download or read book Physics of Laser Fusion. Vol. I. Theory of the Coronal Plasma in Laser-fusion Targets written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the physics of the coronal region in laser fusion targets. The corona consists of hot plasma which has been evaporated from the initially solid target during laser heating. It is in the corona that the laser light is absorbed by the target, and the resulting thermal energy is conducted toward cold high-density regions, where ablation occurs. The topics to be discussed are theoretical mechanisms for laser light absorption and reflection, hot-electron production, and the physics of heat conduction in laser-produced plasmas. An accompanying monograph by H. Ahlstrom (Vol. II) reviews the facilities, diagnostics, and data from recent laser fusion experiments.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for long-term energy sources, in particular for our highly technological society, has become increasingly apparent during the last decade. One of these sources, of tremendous poten tial importance, is controlled thermonuclear fusion. The goal of controlled thermonuclear fusion research is to produce a high-temperature, completely ionized plasma in which the nuclei of two hydrogen isotopes, deuterium and tritium, undergo enough fusion reactions so that the nuclear energy released by these fusion reactions can be transformed into heat and electricity with an overall gain in energy. This requires average kinetic energies for the nuclei of the order of 10 keV, corresponding to temperatures of about 100 million degrees. Moreover, the plasma must remain confined for a certain time interval, during which sufficient energy must be produced to heat the plasma, overcome the energy losses and supply heat to the power station. At present, two main approaches are being investigated to achieve these objectives: magnetic confinement and inertial con finement. In magnetic confinement research, a low-density plasma is heated by electric currents, assisted by additional heating methods such as radio-frequency heating or neutral beam injection, and the confinement is achieved by using various magnetic field configurations. Examples of these are the plasmas produced in stellarator and tokamak devices.

Book Synopsis Advances In Laser Interaction With Matter And Inertial Fusion by : G Velarde
Download or read book Advances In Laser Interaction With Matter And Inertial Fusion written by G Velarde and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-12-04 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects together theoretical and experimental contributions on laser-plasma interaction and dynamics, together with the physics of laser fusion, coronal, hydrodynamics (instabilities), radiation hydrodynamics and atomic physics. Theory and experiments are reviewed. In addition to diagnostics, indirect drive modeling and experiments are reported, as well as approaches of direct drive foam-buffered targets for uniform compression. New ideas on triggering ignition and use of advanced fuels for neutronless fusion are also reported. The short-pulse ultra-intense laser interaction is extensively represented both theoretically and experimentally. The two major laser-fusion ignition projected facilities (2 MJ class). National Ignition Facility (NIF) / USA and Laser Megajoule (LMJ) / France, are also disscused.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning at an introductory level, this text presents a thorough treatment of plasma physics, including an extensive discussion of its applications in thermonuclear fusion research. A novel feature of this book is its comprehensive description of the various concepts and formulas widely used in fusion theory based on the fundamental equations of the plasma fluid. The physics of fusion plasmas is explained mainly in relation to recent progress in tokamak research, but other plasma confinement schemes, such as stellarators and inertial confinement, are also described. The unique and systematic presentation will help readers to understand the overall structure of plasma theory and will facilitate access to more advanced literature on special topics.
