VILLEGAS GIRALDO and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LE POINT CULMINANT DE LA PENSEE DE KEYNES AU SUJET DU TAUX D'INTERET EST LA THEORIE DE LA PREFERENCE POUR LA LIQUIDITE. CEPENDANT L'ANALYSE MONTRE QUE LA NON PRISE EN COMPTE DU FINANCEMENT DE LA PRODUCTION - DANS LA "THEORIE GENERALE..."-MET EN CAUSE CETTE THEORIE. DANS DES ECRITS POSTERIEURS KEYNES ESSAYA D'Y REMEDIER EN IN- TRODUISANT LE MOTIF DE FINANCEMENT ET EN LE TRAITANT DE FACON SEMBLA- BLE AU MOTIF DE SPECULATION. NEANMOINS CETTE TENTATIVE S'AVERE PEU SATISFAISANTE PUISQUE LE MOTIF DE FINANCEMENT NE PEUT PAS ETRE EX- PLIQUE COMME UNE DEMANDE DE FONDS LIQUIDES. AINSI LA THEORIE DE LA PREFERENCE POUR LA LIQUIDITE EST BORNEE A L'EXPLICATION DU PARTAGE DE LA NON-CONSOMMATION DES CONSOMMATEURS SUIVANT UN TAUX D'INTERET PROPOSE PAR L'AUTORITE MONETAIRE. LA BASE DE CETTE ANALYSE EST LA SEPARATION KEYNESIENNE DES DECISIONS DES AGENTS OU CELLES DES ENTREPRENEURS SUR LE NIVEAU D'INVESTISSEMENT CONSTITUENT LA DEMANDE EFFECTIVE. EN DISTINGUANT L'ACTIVITE DE LA PRODUCTION DE CELLE DE LA FIXATION DE LA VALEUR D'EQUILIBRE DES TITRES ET EN PROPOSANT L'ASYMETRIE DES AGENTS, KEYNES INTRODUIT DES ELEMENTS QUI POURRAIENT PERMETTRE DE CONSIDERER UN CADRE ANALYTIQUE DIFFERENT DE CELUI DE L'INTERDEPENDANCE GENERALE DES MARCHES. AINSI, IL EST POSSIBLE DE REALISER UNE LECTURE DU TRAITE QUI PERMETTE DE TRACER L'ITINERAIRE INTELLECTUEL DE KEYNES DANS CETTE PERSPECTIVE, D'OU CET OUVRAGE ACQUIERE UNE DIMENSION DIFFERENTE DE CELLE QU'ON LUI A TRADITIONNELLEMENT ACCORDEE. CEPENDANT LA MULTIPLICITE DES CONCEPTIONS QUI FOISONNENT DANS LA PENSEE KEYNESIENNE FAIT QUE LA PREMIERE TACHE SOIT CELLE DU DEMELAGE DE CES CONCEPTIONS.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: The French philosophe Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu (1689-1755) was a political and social thinker of enormous depth, range, originality, and influence. The essays by eminent scholars reprinted in this volume explore significant aspects of his contributions to political, constitutional, and religious thought during the epoch of the French Enlightenment. Topics highlighted include his Persian Letters (1721), his history of Rome (1734), and the views he expressed in The Spirit of Laws (1748) on natural law, forms of government, English constitutionalism, religion, commerce, international relations, and the philosophy of history. Supplemented by a detailed introduction that contextualizes the papers selected for this volume, as well as an extensive bibliography, this work serves as an authoritative reference to the best scholarship on Montesquieu's political thought. The volume is edited and introduced by David W. Carrithers, Adolph Ochs Professor of Government at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and author of numerous publications on Montesquieu.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smith’s Wealth of Nations, Marx’s Capital, and Keynes’s General Theory are three paradigmatic texts which are foundational to any study of economics or political economy. Although they have long been abundantly quoted and commented on, these “Great Books” paradoxically are being read less and less, as the price of their success. The aim of this book is to encourage the reader to re-read these Texts, by providing “theoretical and conceptual entries” in the spirit of a reasoned dictionary. Hence the return to these works in the text, in statu nascendi, to shed light on their complexities, to loosen the imperialism of received ideas, and to underline their topicality from a theoretical point of view and to understand contemporary economic issues. For example, Adam Smith’s view of the need to add a liberal state to the “system of natural liberty,” Marx’s view of the ability of the capitalist system to overcome temporarily but periodically its contradictions, or Keynes’ view of the essential role of psychology in the decisions and behaviour of men in society. This book is vital reading for anyone interested in the history of economic thought, the founding theories of political economy and the history of ideas more broadly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once again, unfettered capitalism has failed. Promises for global prosperity and peace have given way to a world of deep recession, social upheaval and political instability. Once again, mainstream economics has proved its inadequacy. Despite its technical rigour and mathematical virtuosity, it failed dramatically to respond to the current crisis. Why is this so? Mainstream economics turns a blind eye to society. By assumption, it maims its analyses by wiping away what makes us what we are. There is pressing need for a critical discussion and new ideas. We therefore turn to the insightful and stimulating work of Pierre Bourdieu. Arguably one of the major sociologists ever, he was also a major ‘economist’. Yet his works on the economy have received only scant attention, especially from economists, be they ‘mainstream’ or ‘heterodox’. Bourdieu helps to take a broader view and enrich our scientific imagination. By including dimensions of power, intuitive behaviour and social structures within the scope of his analysis, he provides for an alternative foundation of economics, based on an integrated, interdisciplinary theory. For the first time, this volume fills this gap in economics by featuring state-of-the-art research and experts from different social science disciplines. This book constitutes a first step, and hopes to become a milestone. The book offers an innovative outlook and a unique source for social scientists of all fields, particularly economists and sociologists, who wish to engage in the study of Bourdieu and his economics with a view to developing a more pertinent theory. It will also constitute a useful reference for university students and administrators who would like to explore the economy from a Bourdieusian perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to the rise of various forms of the extreme in economies, organizations and societies (such as disruptive innovation, climate emergency, financial crisis, high-risk sport, etc.), an ambitious 21st century program sets the agenda of management sciences around the unknown, disruption, uncertainty and risk. Management of Extreme Situations presents the research results from the conference organized at the Cerisy-la-Salle International Cultural Center, France, in 2016. It testifies to the existence of an international community that brings together, around management sciences, various disciplines studying the management concept of extreme situations. Through the analysis of varied contexts (polar and mountain expeditions, fire rescue services, exploration projects in the military field, creative industries, etc.), this book offers an initial grammar of the extreme. It presents a heuristic for the management of these situations – particularly in terms of sensemaking, ambidexterity and knowledge expansion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the English language translation of the French publication Économie Politique des Capitalismes. Research in this book presents institutional and historical macroeconomics, through an analysis of wage-labour nexus, innovation systems, monetary and financial systems, integration into the world economy, formation of economic policy configurations, and the history of economic theories. In doing so, the book addresses how and why economic regularities change in long run, and why do macroeconomic adjustments differ across countries within the same historical period. It shows how institutional changes that have occurred since the 1970s and the research on the transformation of the American and French capitalism, have led to the emergence of a research agenda, known as Régulation Theory. Readers would understand the permanent transformations of capitalism and its crises, given the book’s inclusion of long-term historical studies, systematic international comparisons for the contemporary period, and the exploration of the institutional and social foundations of microeconomics which has led to the evolution of various brands of capitalism. This translated work includes a Foreword by Associate Professor Elsa Lafaye de Micheaux and Professor Thomas Lamarche.

Book excerpt: The author had already become involved with the subject of this book when President Nixon suspended the convertibility of the dollar on August 15, 1971. This declaration was equivalent to an official admission of the previously evident failure of the inter national monetary system established in Bretton Woods after long and difficult negotiations. Although the real reasons for this failure are much deeper and more complex, the immediate cause was the tremendous outjlow of money from the United States to Europe and Japan. Never before had economic history recorded a currency movement of such magnitude, although during the periods preceding the devaluation of the French franc and the re valuation of the Deutsche Mark (Le. , by the end of 1968 and mostly in 1969), and particularly at the beginning of 1971, the in ternational flow of money grew to such huge proportions as to alm ost traumatize the economic and financial circles of developed capitalist countries. These economic and financial circles correctly foresaw that the ever growing and hardly controllable volume of currency flow could seriously endanger the already precarious balance of the international financial system and perhaps even upset it. This brief analysis, in contrast to many other predictions of cur rency developments, holds true for a longer period as well.
