This book was released on 1998 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses a number of topics associated with microwave scattering from conducting objects such as Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements, Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) image reconstruction and their applications to radar target identification. An overview of experimental techniques for RCS determination and theoretical analysis of several standard scatterers used in RCS measurements is presented. An efficient deconvolution technique based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is implemented to be used in measured data analysis. A number of experimental results are obtained from the facilities available in the UWO Electromagnetic Wave Laboratory and compared to the theoretical results. Different ISAR image reconstruction algorithms are formulated, implemented and tested on both simulated and measured data. A new target identification technique based on joint Physical Optics (PO) and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) representations of the scattered response is introduced. The application of wavelets in ISAR is a new research direction and another contribution of this thesis is the best wavelet evaluation for data compression and denoising in target identification.

Book excerpt: The leading text and reference on radar cross section (RCS) theory and applications, this work presents a comparison of two radar signal strengths. One is the strength of the radar bean sweeping over a target, the other is the strength of the reflected echo senses by the receiver. This book shows how the RCS "gauge" can be predicted for theoretical objects.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive & illuminating history of this little-understood, but surprisingly significant scientific activity. Quite rigorous & systematic in its methodology, the book explores the development of the radar astronomy specialty in the larger community of scientists. More than just discussing the development of this field, however, the author uses planetary radar astronomy as a vehicle for understanding larger issues relative to the planning & execution of "big science" by the Fed. government. Sources, interviews, technical essay, abbreviations, & index.
