This book was released on 1950 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for determining the effect of time lag in an automatic stabilization system on the lateral oscillatory stability of an airplane. The method is applied to a typical present-day airplane equipped with an automatic pilot sensitive to yawing acceleration and geared to the rudder so that rudder control is application in proportion to the yawing acceleration.

Download or read book A Method for Predicting the Stability in Roll of Automatically Controlled Aircraft Based on the Experimental Determination of the Characteristics of an Automatic Pilot written by Robert Thomas Jones and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is suggested for predicting the stability of automatically controlled aircraft by a comparison of calculated frequency-response curves for the aircraft and experimentally determined frequency-response curves for the automatic pilot. The method is applied only to stabilization in roll. The method is expected to be useful as a means of establishing the specifications of the performance required of the automatic control devices for pilotless aircraft designed as missiles.

McKinney and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When this assumption is made that the rolling motions alone or the lateral and rolling motions may be neglected in the calculations of rudder-free stability, it is possible to predict satisfactorily the characteristics of the long-period (Dutch roll type) rudder-free oscillation for airplanes only when the effective-dihedral angle is small. With these simplifying assumptions, however, satisfactory prediction of the short-period oscillation may be obtained for any dihedral. Further simplification of the theory based on the assumption that the rudder moment of inertia might be disregarded was found to be invalid because this assumption made it impossible to calculate the characteristics of the short-period oscillations.
Book Synopsis A Survey of Stability Analysis Techniques for Automatically Controlled Aircraft by : Arthur L. Jones
Download or read book A Survey of Stability Analysis Techniques for Automatically Controlled Aircraft written by Arthur L. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of the stability analysis techniques for automatically controlled aircraft is presented. The survey is limited to techniques commonly applied to linear, continuous-control systems wherein the difference between the output and input quantities is measured continuously and is used in the operation of the system (a closed-loop system). An evaluation of the techniques, based on the kind and amount of information derivable, is included. An illustrative example is also presented to demonstrate the calculations involved for a typical aircraft-autopilot combination.

Book Synopsis A Method for Studying the Hunting Oscillations of an Airplane with a Simple Type of Automatic Control by : Robert T. Jones
Download or read book A Method for Studying the Hunting Oscillations of an Airplane with a Simple Type of Automatic Control written by Robert T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: A method is presented for predicting the amplitude and frequency, under certain simplifying conditions, of the hunting oscillations of an automatically controlled aircraft with lag in the control system or in the response of the aircraft to the controls. If the steering device is actuated by a simple right-left type of signal, the series of alternating fixed-amplitude signals occurring during the hunting may ordinarily be represented by a square wave. Formulas are given expressing the response to such a variation of signal in terms of the response to a unit signal. A more complex type of hunting, which may involve cyclic repetition of signals of varying duration, has not been treated and requires further analysis. Several examples of application of the method are included and the results discussed.
