Download or read book Called to Love written by Carl Anderson and published by Image. This book was released on 2012-07-31 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thoughtful, accessible work on the beauty of love and the splendor of the body, inspired by Pope John Paul II. Christianity has long been regarded as viewing the body as a threat to a person's spiritual nature and of denying its sexual dimension. In 1979, Pope John Paul II departed from this traditional dichotomy and offered an integrated vision of the human body and soul. In a series of talks that came to be known as “the theology of the body,” he explained the divine meaning of human sexuality and why the body provides answers to fundamental questions about our lives. In Called to Love, Carl Anderson, chairman of the world’s largest catholic service organization, and Fr. Jose Granados discuss the philosophical and religious significance of “the theology of the body” in language at once poetic and profound. As they explain, the body speaks of God, it reveals His goodness, and it also speaks of men and women and their vocation to love. Called to Love brings to life the tremendous gift John Paul II bestowed on humanity and gives readers a new understanding of the Christian way of love and how to embrace it fully in their lives.

Book Synopsis Parenting Your Kids with Grace (Birth to Age 10) by : Dr. Greg
Download or read book Parenting Your Kids with Grace (Birth to Age 10) written by Dr. Greg and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believe it or not, the Catholic family isn’t primarily a human institution. It’s a divine one. By uniting with the sacramental life of the Church, your common, ordinary, crazy family becomes something sacred, a “domestic church." Family therapist and parent Gregory Popcak and his wife, Lisa, are back with Parenting Your Kids with Grace. Building on their best-selling book Parenting with Grace, first published twenty years ago, this new volume draws on the same parenting principles and provides up-to-date research to guide parents through each stage of child development from birth to age ten. Practical, faithful, and humorous, Parenting Your Kids with Grace addresses four key questions: Are Catholic families called to be different from other families in the way we relate to one another in the home? If so, how? What does an authentic, family-based approach to Catholic spirituality look like in practice? What can the latest research tell us about creating a faithful home and raising faithful kids? How can Catholic families be outposts of evangelization and positive social change? By checking our basic assumptions about parenting against both the Church’s vision and what science can teach about living out that vision in healthy ways, we can discover God’s plan for parenting healthy, godly kids.
Book Synopsis A Catechism for Family Life by : Sarah Bartel
Download or read book A Catechism for Family Life written by Sarah Bartel and published by Catholic University of America Press. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of A Catechism for Family Life: Insights from Catholic Teaching on Love, Marriage, Sex, and Parenting is to present the teachings of the Catholic Church as they relate to specific questions in marriage and family life. Many Catholics are under-catechized and have trouble both understanding and articulating Church teaching on sexuality and marriage to an increasingly challenging culture. Pope Francis, along with the fathers of the two recent Synods on the Family, have called for better formation for those who work in the area of marriage and family life (see Amoris Laetitia, 202). To address this need, we gathered pertinent questions facing men, women, and pastoral workers in marriage and family life. We then found passages relevant to these questions by researching Church documents on marriage and family from the past one hundred years. These include papal encyclicals, apostolic exhortations, and addresses, Vatican II documents, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Mainstream media coverage of Church events and Church teaching leads many to misunderstand Catholic positions on marriage and family life. While the Catholic Church has developed a rich, detailed, and positive teaching on marriage, family, and sexuality, many Catholics do not have access to this teaching, buried as it is in lengthy Church documents which many find intimidating. Finding the relevant teaching to address specific questions is not always a simple task, either. This book’s main contribution is to present Church teaching relevant to marriage and family in one volume clearly organized by topic and question.

Book Synopsis Improving Your Body Image Through Catholic Teaching by : John Acquaviva
Download or read book Improving Your Body Image Through Catholic Teaching written by John Acquaviva and published by Tan Books. This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cloaked in promises of freedom and empowerment, a war has threatened the lives of millions of people of all ages, but especially the young. This is the body image war. Hollywood, the music industry, and large corporations promise happiness, pleasure, popularity, and power if we would just buy what they are selling. But their tactics are smoke and mirrors, and their promises are hollow. From photoshop to misleading advertising to the use of paid celebrities, a cocktail of lies tell us how we are supposed to look and feel about ourselves. And so many have bought in, leading to catastrophic results: eating disorders, body obsession, plastic surgery, steroids, peer pressure, and depression. How do we combat this onslaught? The answer is to turn to God and the teachings of his Church. In Improving Your Body Image through Catholic Teaching, Dr. John Acquaviva shows how we have allowed everyone but God to determine the value of our bodies, and how this must change. Relying on such works as Theology of the Body, Holy Scripture, the Catechism and others, as well as on his own history as a college professor of exercise science, Dr. Acquaviva explores the troublesome world of body image in the twenty-first century and leads 20 body image activities, including: A body image survey to see how you view your own body; An exploration of photoshop, and how it distorts our ideals; Discussion questions on the Bible, and how we are made in God's image and likeness; An examination of Hollywood movies and celebrities; And a review of your wardrobe that will help you be content with your body type. Help yourself and those you love escape the trappings of a culture obsessed with body image so that you can come to see the true worth of the human body and the dignity God has bestowed on this temple of his presence.
