Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1989. This book explains the importance of psychological factors for achievement and performance in competitive sport. It deals with the development of ability, maximization of performance in competition, emotional health, social adjustement and general well being of the participants in sport. The two main aims are firstly to select and outline ways in which young people can learn to become highly skilled and well adjusted sportsmen and secondly to describe the techniques by which players, having become highly skilled, can perform consistently well under pressure or stress. This book is based on tried and tested methods in teaching and on extensive research findings in the field of sport psychology. There is a strong bias towards the practical and most chapters contain specific guidelines to be followed and detailed practices to be undertaken, making it ideal as a practical text for teachers, coaches or as an aid to self-improvement in the competitor.

Book excerpt: THE NARAASHANS Motor Ability Test Manual By Author Syed Tariq Murtaza, Ph.D. A basic responsibility of professional physical educators has been the evaluation of the physical status of population especially students. Measurement and evaluation are necessary in order to determine one's motor fitness proficiency and as a means of determining if physical education programs are adequately fulfilling established goals and objectives. Tests and measurements in the field of physical education are comparatively recent outgrowth of the general testing movements (Achenbach 1992; Berks 2003; Barnett & Peter 2004). Beginning late in the 19th century as strength tests, tests of track and field and anthropometric measurements, they have increased in number and completeness with amazing rapidity.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardly anything in psychology is as irking as the trait concept. Psychologists and laypersons alike use primarily adjective trait-names to characterize and even concep tualize the individuals they encounter. There are more than a hundred well-defined personality traits and a great many questionnaires for their assessment, some of which are designed to assess the same or very similar traits. Little is known about their ontogenetic development and even less about their underlying dynamics. Psy choanalytic theory was invoked for explaining the psychodynamics underlying a few personality traits without, however, presenting sufficient empirical evidence for the validity of these interpretations. In a reductionistic vein, behaviorally inclined psy chologists have propounded the thesis that all traits are acquired behaviors. Yet, this view neither reduces the number of personality tests nor explains the resistance of traits to modification by means of reward and punishment. Dissatisfied with these and some other less well-known approaches to person ality traits, we decided to explore whether applying our psychosemantic theory of cognition to the trait concept would do better. The way we had to follow was anything but easy.
