Book excerpt: This American fiction written in 1915 tells the World War I adventure of Cyril Hammersley and his fiancée, an American woman by the name of Doris Mather. Cyril's father was English, and his mother was Prussian, and it makes it difficult to figure out which country earns his loyalty in this conflict. He is constantly viewed with suspicion by almost all of the people in his social circle because he appears to be doing nothing at all, not even caring about what is occurring around him. Even his fiancée Doris doubts Cyril and pushes him time and time again to do something and care about what's happening. This exciting work contains spies and counterspies, encoded messages, confidential meetings, and a wonderful giant plane known as "The Yellow Dove". The tension built at the beginning of the novel remains till the end, which keeps the reader hooked throughout the story. This is an exciting work, considered very convenient for the public, and was most certainly intended to inspire as well as amuse the readers.

Book Synopsis The Penguin Book of Victorian Verse by :
Download or read book The Penguin Book of Victorian Verse written by and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 1998-10-19 with total page 928 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daniel Karlin has selected poetry written and published during the reign of Queen Victoria, (1837-1901). Giving pride of place to Tennyson, Robert Browning, and Christina Rossetti, the volume offers generous selections from other major poets such asArnold, Emily Bronte, Hardy and Hopkins, and makes room for several poem-sequences in their entirety. It is wonderful, too, in its discovery and inclusion of eccentric, dissenting, un-Victorian voices, poets who squarely refuse to 'represent' their period. It also includes the work of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, George Meredith, James Thomson and Augusta Webster.
