Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theory in this book is the fact that humans as a species have stopped evolving in-vivo. They are evolving in-caput. It means that humans by developping technology turn themselves into a never ending list of sub-species. The dynamics of in-caput evolution are modelled in Julia and described in detail in this book. All equations are described and Julia code listings are present in this book. The conclusions coming from those equations are the following: We have seen that “in caput evolution” can define the way by which the homo sapiens species operates. Defining with allometric equations, the “in caput evolution” is possible. In that case, the most plausible equation models succeed in defining the current humanity s-curve, with a time extension from -2000 CE to 6000 CE. All of a sudden, the current s-curve became visible. It is the technology that fuels this “in caput evolution” s-curve. The technology level allows us to predict the human population during the s-curve and the human lifespan. Interestingly the quarter-power law, so crucial in allometry, stay the course also in this case. If we believe in those equations, then the corresponding s-curves of the human population and technology level went through their maximum growth points during the last few decades. Therefore we have switched from growing growth to decreasing growth. Those were the years of the switch for this s-curve that can be defined as “the technarian age jump”. It is possible to plot factor population function of the technology level factor, which shows the functional response of humanity during the technarian age jump. It usually is not easy to diverge a lot from a functional response. But there are two sides to the functional response. One is the crowded side. Where there is more population and fewer resources, the other side is the smart side. They both go to the same point, but one side is the smarter and safer side. In front of factor population and factor technology level, it is possible to extend the definition of species fitness beyond simply the factor population but also the factor technology level into it. Life is a succession of s-curves reversely falling into negentropy. Before the "technarian age jump" s-curve, humanity went through the venatorian s-curve and the agrarian s-curve. Simplified models of venatorian, agrarian and technarian societies have been done to evaluate if dynamic societal movements could impact the main s-curve. But societal movements likely have only a limited impact on the overall humanity functional response. However, there has been an exciting result modelling the agrarian society. It appears that its well-documented plural centenarian instability cycle might actually be generated by elite over reproduction but also end especially by the elite loss of efficiency. The discovered allometry equations enable us to estimate that humans are right now the equivalent of a 98% material aggregation and 2% molecular aggregation. At the end of the technarian s-curve, they will be 99.5% material and 0.5% molecular. That is if nothing changes. But things will change. The new s-curve is getting started. It will be the one of The Singularity. It is unknown when and how it will play out. It is unknown if in the middle there will be a long or very long asymptotic phase, but it will be a crucially important and exciting time. Hopefully, humanity will fulfil its destiny of being a “Proteromonic” species.

Book excerpt: This book tries to answer these questions: why during the palaeolithic phase did humans give little importance to divination? why during the neolithic humans give such huge importance to divination to resort massively to human sacrifices? why divination did evolve into religion? why nowadays religion is losing importance? how will it continue from here? The concept of divine will be a historical concept that intelligent molecular life has used for about 5000, 7000 years or so to achieve what in modern machine programming we call lines of code reduction and loop break out. Complete religion phase-out might be just around the corner. It no longer fulfils its number one purpose; the loop break-out.

Ask the average person about it and you’ll likely get an answer that sounds like: “what’s that?”, “what do you mean?”. When I first heard the term, my first thought was: we will use just one technology for everything instead of a variety of them. I was far from thinking it’s will be something created by Mankind but that will spell the end of our own species. In other words, a self-inflicted wound. 2045 is an unrealistic date when we consider the implications of technological singularity. The information revolution started during World War II. In roughly 75 years, since the advent of Intranet of the US Department of Defense, the first computers (Colossus in Britain and ENIAC in the United States), and later the Internet followed by the democratization of personal computers, smartphones and other connected devices, our lifestyle has drastically changed. Overly optimistic scholars and visionaries have gone so far as to predict a potential takeover of the planet by homegrown machines. That idea or suggestion, although in line with current trends in technological advances, is flawed. It’s a big dream, a grandiose dream, and there is nothing wrong with dreaming big. But the end results of technological singularity, if the latter ever materializes, wouldn’t even qualify to be labeled a technological revolution, when compared to the agricultural, the writing, the printing, the industrial, and the information revolutions. Why is that?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossing the Event Horizon provides evidence that we are, both individually and collectively, hurtling toward an evolutionary event horizon. Using the tools of Jungian psychology, the nature of the singularity is defined by its myriad manifestations emerging from the collective unconscious. These include dreams, motifs and themes found in art, science fiction and fantasy literature and films, religious cults, and the paranormal, especially near-death experiences and UFO encounters. Key aspects of the Singularity Archetype include: "Logos Beheld" (visually comprehended linguistic intent often associated with a collective telepathic network), Homo gestalt (a new species where individuality is conserved but also telepathically networked), and a parallelism between the individual event horizon of death and eschaton (the collective event horizon of the species). Apocalypticism is analyzed as an example of the Singularity Archetype pathologizing. A study of the Heaven's Gate saucer/suicide cult illustrates what can happen when people become possessed by the Singularity Archetype and are driven by it into delusory projections. The Singularity Archetype is viewed apocalyptically by the ego, and as a transcendent evolutionary event by the Self, and the duality of these views is explored in many examples. The evolutionary origins of the ego and its metamorphosis as it approaches the event horizon are explored. Evolutionary theory, which relates to the Singularity Archetype through a number of dynamic paradoxes, is discussed. Many popular books and movies are analyzed as permutations of the Singularity Archetype, including: Avatar, Childhood's End, Village of the Damned, Powder, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Singularity Archetype is a primordial image of human evolutionary metamorphosis which emerges from the collective unconscious. How the Archetype Manifests (a Composite Picture)A rupture-of-plane event occurs, usually threatening the survival of the individual and/or species. The event is a shock that disrupts the equilibrium of body/physical world and also individual/collective psyche. It is an ontological shock that will be viewed as the worst thing possible by individual/ collective ego. There is another rupture of plane that may actually be the same rupture as above but seen from a cosmic rather than a personal view. The shock is revealed to be a transcendent evolutionary event. The revelation of the transcendent aspect will often involve spiral motifs and unusual lights. Consciousness and communication metamorphose and with them core aspects---ego, individuality, connection to linear time, corporeality, gender identification, social order, etc.---fundamentally transform. There is a vision or actualization of release from some or all limits of corporeal incarnation and the emergence of "glorified bodies," which have enhanced powers and various degrees of etherialization. More visual and telepathic modes of consciousness and communication emerge, and this is part of a transformation of individuality into "Homo gestalt"---a new species where individual psyches are networked telepathically. The Singularity Archetype may be experienced and even actualized to various degrees by an individual through transcendent and/or anomalous experiences such as near-death experiences (NDEs), UFO/abduction/close encounter experiences, kundalini and psychotropic episodes. As with encounters with all archetypes, individuals and groups attach idiosyncratic material to it, such as particular end dates and scenarios. Another way of defining the Singularity Archetype (in its collective form) is as a resonance, flowing backward through time, of an approaching Singularity at the end of human history. The Singularity Archetype relates to both the evolutionary event horizon of the species and, for the individual, the event horizon of death.

Book excerpt: This volume represents the combination of two special issues of the Journal of Consciousness Studies on the topic of the technological singularity. Could artificial intelligence really out-think us, and what would be the likely repercussions if it could? Leading authors contribute to the debate, which takes the form of a target chapter by philosopher David Chalmers, plus commentaries from the likes of Daniel Dennett, Nick Bostrom, Ray Kurzweil, Ben Goertzel, Frank Tipler, among many others. Chalmers then responds to the commentators to round off the discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In general relativity, a naked singularity is a gravitational singularity, without an event horizon. In a black hole, there is a region around the singularity, the event horizon, where the gravitational force of the singularity is strong enough so that light cannot escape. Hence, the singularity cannot be directly observed. A naked singularity, by contrast, is observable from the outside. The theoretical existence of naked singularities is important because their existence would mean that it would be possible to observe the collapse of an object to infinite density. It would also cause foundational problems for general relativity, because in the presence of a naked singularity, general relativity cannot make predictions about the future evolution of spacetime. Some research has suggested that if loop quantum gravity is correct, then naked singularities could exist in nature, implying that the cosmic censorship hypothesis does not hold. Numerical calculations and some other arguments have also hinted at this possibility. To this date, no naked singularities (and no event horizons) have been observed.

Richly detailed, vivid with local colour, each story in this book is an inspection of human motive and of the complex ties that bind five principal characters together. The stories cover a wide range of territory, from childhood innocence to adult desperation, from the depths of poverty to cushioned affluence, from London to Los Angeles, Ayers Rock in Australia to the black sand beaches of New Zealand's wild west coast. The stories can be read as discrete pieces, yet each contributes to a unifying narrative, which also links back to her previous work Opportunity and forward to her subsequent works, The Night Book and Soon. Both Singularity and Opportunity were shortlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Prize, and the latter won New Zealand's premier award for fiction, the 2008 Montana Book Award.

Raphael Woolf offers a comprehensive interpretation of its disparate elements that pays close attention to its complex and layered structure, and to the methodology of reading Plato. He thus aims to present a compelling and unified interpretation of the dialogue as a whole. The book mounts a strong case for the formal separation of Plato the author from his character Socrates, and for the Charmides as a Platonic defence of the written text as a medium for philosophical reflection. It lays greater emphasis than other readings on the centrality of eros to an understanding of Socratic procedure in the Charmides, and on how the dialogue's erotic and medical motifs work together. The book's critical engagement with the dialogue allows a worked-out account to be given of how temperance, the central object of enquiry in the work, is to be conceived.

How do you know that your "enlightenment" isn't illusory? What criteria are you using to determine what "enlightenment" is? Why those criteria? Have you ever even thought about it? And if you haven't, how can you possibly be enlightened? Enlightenment isn't ignorance. It's not about willfully ignoring the facts. It's not about turning your back on reason and logic. It's not about severe cognitive deficits. It's not about annihilating your mind ("nirvana"). It's not about unconditional love. It's not about your feelings at all. It's not about super-duper mystical intuition. It's not about perfecting your senses. It's about none of those. Project Illumination is about showing what Illumination is really all about. Come inside and expose yourself to the light of reason, the only thing that can truly Illuminate you. Are you ready to receive the light? Let's light this thing up.

Book excerpt: Instant New York Times Bestseller Uncover the evidence-based science to slowing the effects of aging, from the New York Times bestselling author of the How Not to Die series When Dr. Michael Greger, founder of NutritionFacts.org, dove into the top peer-reviewed anti-aging medical research, he realized that diet could regulate every one of the most promising strategies for combating the effects of aging. We don’t need Big Pharma to keep us feeling young—we already have the tools. In How Not to Age, the internationally renowned physician and nutritionist breaks down the science of aging and chronic illness and explains how to help avoid the diseases most commonly encountered in our journeys through life. Physicians have long treated aging as a malady, but getting older does not have to mean getting sicker. There are eleven pathways for aging in our bodies’ cells and we can disrupt each of them. Processes like autophagy, the upcycling of unusable junk, can be boosted with spermidine, a compound found in tempeh, mushrooms, and wheat germ. Senescent “zombie” cells that spew inflammation and are linked to many age-related diseases may be cleared in part with quercetin-rich foods like onions, apples, and kale. And we can combat effects of aging without breaking the bank. Why spend a small fortune on vitamin C and nicotinamide facial serums when you can make your own for up to 2,000 times cheaper? Inspired by the dietary and lifestyle patterns of centenarians and residents of “blue zone” regions where people live the longest, Dr. Greger presents simple, accessible, and evidence-based methods to preserve the body functions that keep you feeling youthful, both physically and mentally. Brimming with expertise and actionable takeaways, How Not to Age lays out practical strategies for achieving ultimate longevity.

Book excerpt: A highly respected physicist demonstrates that the essential beliefs of Christianity are wholly consistent with the laws of physics. Frank Tipler takes an exciting new approach to the age-old dispute about the relationship between science and religion in The Physics of Christianity. In reviewing centuries of writings and discussions, Tipler realized that in all the debate about science versus religion, there was no serious scientific research into central Christian claims and beliefs. So Tipler embarked on just such a scientific inquiry. The Physics of Christianity presents the fascinating results of his pioneering study. Tipler begins by outlining the basic concepts of physics for the lay reader and brings to light the underlying connections between physics and theology. In a compelling example, he illustrates how the God depicted by Jews and Christians, the Uncaused First Cause, is completely consistent with the Cosmological Singularity, an entity whose existence is required by physical law. His discussion of the scientific possibility of miracles provides an impressive, credible scientific foundation for many of Christianity’s most astonishing claims, including the Virgin Birth, the Resurrection, and the Incarnation. He even includes specific outlines for practical experiments that can help prove the validity of the “miracles” at the heart of Christianity. Tipler’s thoroughly rational approach and fully accessible style sets The Physics of Christianity apart from other books dealing with conflicts between science and religion. It will appeal not only to Christian readers, but also to anyone interested in an issue that triggers heated and divisive intellectual and cultural debates.
