Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of Christ is a very important subject that caused a serious dissension within the Church in the fifth century, in 451 AD. When the theological dialogue started as an effort towards the unity of churches, the subject had to be discussed. Therefore, our Orthodox Church found it necessary to issue a book which presents its concept in this regard in a language fit for theological dialogues. This subject (the Nature of Christ) was taught by me to the students of the Seminary "St. Mark Theological College" in 1984 in the form of lectures which I delivered to them in St. Bishoy Monastery, Sheheit Desert, as part of the courses of comparative Theology. The lectures were printed merely for the use of the students. The same lectures were afterwards translated into English in Ottawa, Canada, in 1980 and became available in English only for six years... We had to print them in Arabic for the students of the Seminary and its branches and for the benefit of those who are interested in theological studies whether ministers or ordinary individuals.. and whoever has the desire-from other churches to be acquainted with our concept of Christology. The first theological dialogue we attended on this subject was in Vienna, Austria in September 1971 AD convened by the ProOriente Group. In this dialogue we reached a theological formula that was accepted by our Catholic brothers and those in the old Oriental orthodox churches: the Syrians, Arminians, Ethiopians and Indians. It was an important dialogue indeed, for the dissension that occurred in the fifth century had distorted the face of every church before the other.. But now the way is open for a common understanding. Then, there was an official agreement with the Catholic churches after 17 years of differences (since 1988), based on the previous understanding. The agreement was recorded in a concise "Statement" which you will find at the end of this book. There was another dialogue, in more detail, with our brothers in the Byzantine Orthodox Churches in St. Bishoy Monastery, Sheheit Desert in 1989 AD. It was attended by the theologians of twenty Orthodox Churches and was followed by another meeting of the priestly representatives of the Orthodox churches in Chambesy, Geneva, in 1990. Now, seeing it is necessary to make our people acquainted with the details and evidences that prove our concept of the Nature of Christ, and since the Pro-Oriente Group is convening a religious conference for the representatives of all Churches at the end of October 1991 to present to them the Agreed Statement on Christology. And since we were asked to present a paper on the subject and deliver it as a lecture in the conference. Therefore, we proceeded to print the former lectures delivered in the Seminary in 1984 as a book to be presented to the conference and to be available in Arabic and in English for all who are interested. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry of the Word contains the final seven messages given during the Fall 2019 term of the full-time training in Anaheim, California. The general subject of this series of messages is “The Christian Life.” In these seven messages we continue to consider other aspects of the Christian life. In order to live the Christian life, we need to know the resurrected Christ and to know and experience the power of His resurrection. The first aspect in which we need to know Him is as the Son of God designated in power with His human nature. Christ as the Son of God will make us the same as He is. He is the prototype, and He is in us as the law of the Spirit of life to shape, to conform, us to the image of the firstborn Son. The second aspect in which we need to know Him is as the firstborn Son of God born in resurrection. The first aspect emphasizes His person to be reproduced, and the second aspect is for His propagation. To live the Christian life is to live out the anointing. The anointing is the moving and working of the indwelling compound Spirit to apply all the ingredients of the processed Triune God and His activities into our inner being so that we may be fully mingled with Him for His corporate expression. Life moves, and when Christ as the Spirit entered into us, He came into us as the anointing. In order to experience the anointing, we need to know Christ as the anointed One, as the anointing One, and as the anointing. The Christian life is a life of abiding in Christ as the vine. The true vine with its branches—Christ the Son with the believers in the Son—is the organism of the Triune God in the divine economy to grow with His riches and express His life. As the branches of the true vine, we are the multiplication of Christ, the duplication of Christ, the spreading of Christ, and the enlargement of Christ. To abide in Christ as the vine is to dwell in Him, to remain in fellowship with Him, that we may experience and enjoy His abiding in us. The Christian life is a life of living in the mingled spirit. The essence of the New Testament is the two spirits—the divine Spirit and the human spirit—mingled together as one spirit. We can experience Christ, enjoy Christ, live Christ, and take Christ as everything because we have become one spirit with Him. Ultimately, the Bible requires only one thing of us—that we walk according to the mingled spirit. The key to everything is found in the wonderful Spirit who is in our regenerated spirit and who has become one spirit with our spirit. To live in the mingled spirit is to have the highest spirituality. The Christian life is a grafted life. God desires that the divine life and the human life be joined together to become one life. This oneness is an organic union, a union in life—a grafted life. Because our human life was made in the image of God and according to the likeness of God, it can be joined to the divine life. Our human life resembles the divine life; therefore, the divine life and the human life can be grafted together and grow together organically. As regenerated ones, we should live a grafted life—a life in which two parties are joined to grow organically. The Christian life is not an exchanged life but a grafted life—the mingling of the human life with the divine life. The most wonderful reality in the Christian experience is that the believers in Christ are united with Christ in the way of life. In the grafted life the human life is not eliminated but is strengthened, uplifted, and enriched by the divine life. As a result of our being grafted into Christ, there is a three-stage development of our relationship with the Triune God in Christ as the Spirit—a union in life, a mingling of natures, and a coinherence, the mutual indwelling, of persons. As Christians, we live a life of coinherence in the Father’s house, which is the church as the house of God and the Body of Christ. To live in the Triune God and to have the Triune God live in us is the greatest blessing in the universe. The Christian life is a life fully according to and for the central work of God. God’s unique work in the universe and throughout all the ages and generations is to work Himself in Christ into His chosen people, making Himself one with them. We need God to build Himself in Christ into our humanity, working Himself in Christ into us as our life, nature, and person. God is working Himself into us through everything that happens to us so that He may become our constitution. As Christians, we experience the divine dispensing for God’s central work. The will of God concerning our Christian life is that we would know the all-inclusive, extensive Christ, experience Him, be constituted with Him, and express Him. On January 24 he began a seven-day perfecting conference with five special fellowships concerning the subject of pursuing the Lord. After this, he initiated a service training that lasted for six months, with four meetings per week. On Wednesday mornings he gave a Bible study of the Old Testament, and on Wednesday evenings he gave a training on character, including matters such as being the proper person, handling affairs properly, and doing the proper work. On Friday mornings he gave a training on being a minister of God's word, and on Friday evenings he ministered on the proper way to meet. The number who attended these meetings varied between fifty-six and one hundred sixty. The study of the Old Testament and the training on character are included in volume 1 of the 1954 set, along with other messages given in the same time period. Brother Lee left Manila in July and traveled to Hong Kong, where he conducted ten meetings on life and twelve meetings on service, plus four gospel meetings, four young people's meetings, six fellowships on service, and six meetings for the full-time serving ones. These meetings were centered on the indwelling Christ and on the knowledge of spiritual service. They are included in volumes 1 and 2 of this set. Brother Lee left Hong Kong to return to Taiwan in the middle of August. At the end of August and the beginning of September, Brother Lee conducted a special conference in Taipei, Taiwan, that consisted of ten meetings on the subject of spiritual reality, with between one thousand six hundred and two thousand six hundred in attendance. These messages are included in the section entitled Spiritual Reality in volume 2 of this set. In the fall of 1954 Brother Lee began another extended training for serving ones like the one that he carried out in the fall of 1953. During this training he conducted a detailed study on Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus through Ezra. The messages given in this detailed study are included in volume 4 of this set. He also spoke further on the knowledge of life and the experience of life. These speakings and the speakings in the previous training in 1953 on the same subjects were combined to form the books The Knowledge of Life and The Experience of Life (see The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1953, vol. 3). During this training he also released messages published in Gospel Outlines, which are included in volume 3 of this set. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1954, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee on January 1 through August 12, 1954. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1954 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. Two messages given in Manila, Philippines, on January 1 and 3. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Significance and Application of the Burnt Offering. 2. Eight messages given in Manila, Philippines, on January 24 through 31.
