Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ost probably the readers of this magazine have never heard of the original TRACKS. I was in the very same situation until by the end of 2020, when NZ LRDG-historian Brendan OCarroll has provided me with a hardly readable copy of the June 1941 issue of TRACKS. I was immediately fascinated by these windows into the past and just thought: "We should revive TRACKS! " The editor of the original Tracks was, that time 20 years old, TA Sgt. N.A Moore, a clerk attached to LRDG Group HQ. The June 1941 issue was created by him when the LRDG HQ was located at Kufra. There he got the idea to create a "house paper" for the unit. He recalled in a letter which was published in the 1991 Newsletter of the LRDG Association, that there were only a very limited number of people who were willing to contribute and that this first edition was mainly launched thanks to the contribution of Lieut. Col. Bagnold and Captain Kennedy Shaw. And indeed, the June 1941 remained the single and only issue of Tracks - it was never published again.... until today! After TRACKS 2021 and TRACKS 2022 is now the third issue of the "re-vived" magazine.

Book excerpt: Here’s How to Treat Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Third Edition offers clinicians and students of speech-language pathology (SLP) a comprehensive look at the assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). This book helps guide the SLP on which assessment tasks will provide the information needed to make a confident diagnosis of CAS at different stages of development, as well as best practices for treatment of CAS. The authors take a deep dive into application of evidence-based treatment strategies for children with CAS, and move beyond theoretical ideas to provide recommendations of specific activities to facilitate improved speech praxis in children across age groups, making this book extremely informative and practical. This latest edition maintains the original intention of the prior editions—to provide clinicians and students with a holistic look at the complex needs of children with CAS and to offer practical ideas for evaluation and treatment. The amount of new research over the past several years has been substantial. Fortunately for the readers, Here’s How to Treat Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Third Edition summarizes the most current research regarding the nature of CAS, best practices in evaluation, and effective treatment strategies to give clinicians greater confidence in working with children with this complex speech disorder. New to the Third Edition * Updates to reflect the current research findings related to the genetic and neurogenic correlates of CAS, as well as the features of CAS that are most sensitive and specific to consider when making a differential diagnosis * New chapters on unique needs of children with co-occurring challenges, such as ADHD, dysarthria, and developmental coordination disorder, and treatment of CAS via telepractice * Videos Disclaimer: Please note that ancillary content (such as documents, forms, etc.) may not be included as published in the original print version of this book.

Book excerpt: The Shijing ("Canon of Odes") is China's oldest poetry collection, traditionally considered to have been edited by Confucius himself. Despite their enormous importance for Confucianism and Chinese civilization, the 305 odes have for millennia also puzzled readers. Why did the Sage include in the Canon apparently lewd poems about women promising men to "hitch up" their skirts and "wade the river," and men "tossing and turning in bed" yearning for young women? What did the innumerable representations of plants, beasts, and birds, and of various climactic and astronomical phenomena, signify beyond their immediate function as natural descriptions? One such puzzled reader was Mao Heng, a learned Confucian employed at a minor court in the mid-second century BCE. The object of this study is the Commentary that Mao composed on the Odes, and in particular the hermeneutic tool—the xing—that he invented to explain the figurality and tropes at play in them. Mao's "xingish" interpretation of the Odes is both genuinely hermeneutic, in that it explains the rhetorical organization of these poems, and thoroughly ideological, since it allows Mao to transform them into Confucian dogma. The book also argues that the xing, content, function, and cultural importance, is comparable to the Aristotelian concept of metaphor (metaphora), and that the xing, the Odes, and the practice of shi (Chinese "poetry") demand an intercultural, "comparative" reading for a more nuanced understanding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is rare for someone to journey through life without carrying the burden of regret: regret for what was, wasn’t, or might have been. Perhaps your regret lies in the echoes of unvoiced words. Did you withhold the depths of your love, leaving it buried within? Were you powerless to set the boundaries that could have protected your heart? Did your voice falter when you needed to speak up? In the quiet corners of our hearts, the heavy weight of regret finds its dwelling, reminding us of the striking power of unspoken words and unexpressed truths. Regardless of the regret (or regrets) you may harbour, have you tried to process that feeling? Have you managed to come to terms with it, or does it continue to weigh you down? Are you stuck in the past, unable to truly live in the present, because of your regret? In Haunted by Words Left Unspoken: How Speaking Your Truth Can Set Your Past Free, Anna Marie Buonomo addresses the topic of regret through a series of letters that are supported by poetry, thoughtful prose, and quotations from great thinkers. Divided into three sections—the past, the present, and the future—this book demonstrates how our relationship with ourselves can evolve and grow with time. Using her own life experiences as examples, Anna challenges her readers to face their regrets and move toward letting go and healing. After all, if we can face our own truths and release regret, we will create space for happiness in the present that will, in turn, manifest the future we envision.

Book excerpt: Reveals how corporate greed led to scandal, corruption, and the January 6th insurrection—and how we can stop it from happening again Donald Trump’s false claims of election fraud and the violence of the Capitol riot have made it unavoidably clear that the future of American democracy is in peril. Unseen political actors and untraceable dark money influence our elections, while anti-democratic rhetoric threatens a tilt towards authoritarianism. In Corporatocracy, Ciara Torres-Spelliscy reveals the role corporations play in this dire state of political affairs, and explains why and how they should be held accountable by the courts, their shareholders, and citizens themselves. Drawing on key Supreme Court cases, Torres-Spelliscy explores how corporations have, more often than not, been on the wrong side of history by working to undermine democratic norms, practices, and laws. From bankrolling regressive politicians to funding ghost candidates with dark money, she shows us how corporations subvert the will of the American people, and how courts struggle to hold them and corrupt politicians accountable. Corporations have existed far longer than democracies have. If voters, consumers, and investors are not careful, corporations may well outlive democracy. Corporatocracy brings all of these shadowy tactics to light and offers meaningful legal reforms that can strengthen and protect American democracy.

The contributors to this volume examine these practices using the example of freedom of religion or belief, a human right that has become a particular target of right-wing populists and extremists worldwide. The contributions not only show the rhetorical patterns of appropriation and distortion, but also demonstrate for various countries which social dynamics favor the appropriation in each case and propose how to strengthen human rights and the culture of debate in democratic societies.
