Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New proof of a nuclear catastrophe on Mars! In an epic story of discovery, strong evidence is presented for a dead civilization on Mars and the shocking reason for its demise: an ancient planetary-scale nuclear massacre leaving isotopic traces of vast explosions that endure to our present age. The story told by a wide range of Mars data is now clear. Mars was once Earth-like in climate, with an ocean and rivers, and for a long period became home to both plant and animal life, including a humanoid civilization. Then, for unfathomable reasons, a massive thermo-nuclear explosion ravaged the centers of the Martian civilization and destroyed the biosphere of the planet. But the story does not end there. This tragedy may explain Fermi's Paradox, the fact that the cosmos, seemingly so fertile and with so many planets suitable for life, is as silent as a graveyard. We must immediately send astronauts to Mars to maximize our knowledge of what happened there, and learn how to avoid Mars’ fate. Includes an 8-page color section.

Book excerpt: As Clausewitz observed, “In war more than anywhere else, things do not turn out as we expect.” The essence of war is a competitive reciprocal relationship with an adversary. Commanders and institutional leaders must recognize shortfalls and resolve gaps rapidly in the middle of the fog of war. The side that reacts best (and absorbs faster) increases its chances of winning. Mars Adapting examines what makes some military organizations better at this contest than others. It explores the institutional characteristics or attributes at play in learning quickly. Adaptation requires a dynamic process of acquiring knowledge, the utilization of that knowledge to alter a unit’s skills, and the sharing of that learning to other units to integrate and institutionalize better operational practice. Mars Adapting explores the internal institutional factors that promote and enable military adaptation. It employs four cases, drawing upon one from each of the U.S. armed services. Each case was an extensive campaign, with several cycles of action/counteraction. In each case the military institution entered the war with an existing mental model of the war they expected to fight. For example, the U.S. Navy prepared for decades to defeat the Japanese Imperial Navy and had developed carried-based aviation. Other capabilities, particularly the Fleet submarine, were applied as a major adaptation. The author establishes a theory called Organizational Learning Capacity that captures the transition of experience and knowledge from individuals into larger and higher levels of each military service through four major steps. The learning/change cycle is influenced, he argues, by four institutional attributes (leadership, organizational culture, learning mechanisms, and dissemination mechanisms). The dynamic interplay of these institutional enablers shaped their ability to perceive and change appropriately.

Book excerpt: The most comprehensive look at our relationship with Mars—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—through history, archival images, pop culture ephemera, and interviews with NASA scientists Mars has been a source of fascination and speculation ever since the ancient Egyptians observed its blood-red hue and named it for their god of war and plague. But it wasn't until the 19th century when “canals” were observed on the surface of the Red Planet, suggesting the presence of water, that scientists, novelists, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs became obsessed with the question of whether there’s life on Mars. Since then, Mars has fully invaded pop culture, inspiring its own day of the week (Tuesday), an iconic Looney Tunes character, and many novels and movies, from Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles to The Martian. It’s this cultural familiarity with the fourth planet that continues to inspire advancements in Mars exploration, from NASA’s launch of the Mars rover Perseverance to Elon Musk’s quest to launch a manned mission to Mars through SpaceX by 2024. Perhaps, one day, we’ll be able to answer the questions our ancestors asked when they looked up at the night sky millennia ago.

It is one of the earliest and best-known depictions of an alien invasion of Earth, and has influenced many others, as well as spawning several films, radio dramas, comic book adaptations, and a television series based on the story. The 1938 radio broadcast caused public outcry against the episode, as many listeners believed that an actual Martian invasion was in progress, a notable example of mass hysteria.

Book excerpt: Alien tech discovered. The race to claim it could spark a new kind of War. When a derelict alien starship appears in the solar system and crash-lands on Mars, it ignites a desperate race to be the first to reach the Red Planet to claim the mysterious technological treasures of the Visitor. Space Force General Tom Bradstreet, ace Air Force fighter pilot and the only active-duty officer with actual space combat experience, is given control of the Morrigan, the first manned mission to Mars-and the first space warship. He and his elite team know their mission. In fact, it should be simple. The US is the only nation with a spaceship capable of making it to Mars. Or so they think... Maverick Russian General Mikhail Antonov has been handed the insane, desperate gamble of building an Orion-style spaceship powered by nuclear warheads. Launching it from the heart of Russia could be the spark that touches off a nuclear war but it's the only way the Russians and Chinese can hope to reach Mars before the Americans. The scene is set for a devastating world war, and the first shots may be fired on another world... General Bradstreet and the American forces on Mars have defeated the incursion by the insectoid Seekers, but at a heavy cost. The Morrigan is nearly out of reaction mass and can't make it back to Earth, both landers have been destroyed and they have greater than fifty percent casualties. They're stranded on Mars, saved only by the shelter of the Visitor ship. Until, miraculously, help arrives in the form of a new alliance with the French Coalition government, which provides a resupply ship filled with food, fuel, and reinforcements...both US Marines and French Special Forces. They're saved. Or so they think. But can the French be trusted or do they have ulterior motives? And can their own people be depended upon to do the job when they ignore the advice of the veterans of this Martian war? Tom Bradstreet and Marine Sgt. Brent Parker face threats from within and without as they try to decide who their allies really are...and prepare to defend the Visitor ship from the next wave of attacks. Because the Seekers are still out there, and they still want the Visitor with the fervor of a religious jihad. And the real question is...who's behind them? Book 2 in the next action-packed, gritty military sci-fi series from Rick Partlow, the bestselling author of the Drop Trooper Series and Taken to the Stars.

Book excerpt: It happens this time. All of a sudden Mars attacks the Earth and, all of a sudden, the capitals of the Earth turns to ash. Established immediately, the United Government of World decides to send thousands of "expiators," those criminals who atoned for their sins, and volunteers to Mars. This is the story of one man. Adam, a full privileged citizen of the Earth, volunteers in the most recent Mars mission. But it is harder than it sounds. He does not only has to leave privileged life on Earth but also face the dangers waiting him in this journey. During his epic journey, Adam will uncover the dark truths about post-apocalyptic society and himself."Think of this; on a planet that has lost its magnetic field, the ionosphere becomes thinner and disappears in time. What you need to know is that this process takes thousands of years. You cannot just get rid of the ionosphere like turning off the lights. It is a slow process that takes place by the particles in the ionosphere being spread into space with solar winds and explosions. If you even take a worm out of the dirt, it will crawl back in before it is dry. So if there are civilized creatures on the surface, as we already know, the thousands of years we're talking about will have provided them the time to prepare for an ionosphere-less life and also to go deep down in the planet to be protected from the sun's radiation. Do you think it's possible that our scientists haven't thought about a civilization underground?" "Mars is the name of the God of War. And whether you continue living or die there, the land of the War God will remain the place of a never-ending cosmic war..."
