Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been re-published to coincide the occasion of the third World Conference against Racism, Xenophobia, and intolerance, held in Durban, South Africa, 2001. The prevailing opinion is that slavery has been committed to the dustbins of history, yet the effect of this odious barbarism primarily against the African people manifest itself well into the 21st century. Since it's formal abolition in 1863, it has assumed a more devious face, in the form of "refurbished" slavery. Globalisation through the domination of the forces of production by Multi National cartels is a new form of slavery. Allamah Rizvi re-visits this contentious issue of the slave and defines it within its rightful context.

Book excerpt: I was requested to deliver a speech on the honored character of Fatima (peace be upon her). Granting this request would show my impotence to the utmost, because knowing Fatima (peace be upon her) and naturally, introducing her is a demanding task. What could I say about the one, whom no one really has known her save Allah; and indeed, no one has discovered her real character except Prophet Mohammed (a.s) and Imam Ali (peace be upon him). The limit of my mind and knowledge does not allow me to describe her as she really is. In addition, any debate on the character of Fatima (peace be upon her) needs courage, rhetoric, full knowledge, and above all, thorough conversance with the celestial world, because she is the "Lady of the heavenly wOmmen." Only he who has got a real understanding of the heaven would characterize her. Right now, Fatima (peace be upon her) is not physically present among us, but her extensive aspects of her life, thoughts, and policies affect our minds and lives. Who is that does not know a brief of Fatima (peace be upon her)'s life and wishes not to follow her way? She has passed away, but the rich facets of her life get more extensive as time goes by. Moreover, I consider it a great honor to introduce Fatima (peace be upon her) from the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him and his descendants), Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and the Imams' words, and talk about her various roles, her life and purity, her seeking for administering justice, lending the people a helping hand, and, at last, her martyrdom. Although our speech does not really characterize her, it has the great value to remind us for sOmme hours of Fatima (peace be upon her), Allah's pure servant and the Prophet's esteemed daughter. This book is one of the many Islamic publications distributed by Ahlulbayt Organization throughout the world in different languages with the aim of conveying the message of Islam to the people of the world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peace cannot be attained as long as there are ideologies that promote hate. People don't naturally do evil. They do evil when indoctrinated. Good people do evil things when they perceive injustice. Often their perception is imaginary. Masses of people can be manipulated to believe that they are victimized. They then become filled with hate, seek revenge and commit atrocities while considering them-selves righteous and justifying every cruelty. Islam is one such a doctrine. Why are there no freedom of speech and no true democracy in any Islamic country? Why do they abuse and treat their women as objects? Why do all Muslim countries have dismal Human Rights record? Why they riot and murder innocent people over the silliest things? What drives so many of them to terrorism? Why they are constantly at war with everyone, and with each other? To understand Muslims, we must understand their prophet. Islam is Muhammadism. His biographers reported Muhammad used to withdraw to a cave and spend days wrapped in his thoughts. He felt spasms, heard bells ringing and saw ghosts. He thought he had become demon possessed, but his wife reassured him he had become a prophet. Convinced of his superior status, Muhammad was intolerant of those who rejected him, assassinated those who criticized him, raided, looted, and massacred entire populations. He reduced thousands to slavery. He raped, and allowed his men to rape their female captives. All of this, he did with a clear conscience and a sense of entitlement. He was magnanimous to those who admired him, but vengeful towards his detractors. He believed he was the most perfect human creation and that the universe was created because of him. Understanding Muhammad ventures beyond the stories. It unravels the mystique of the most influential, and yet the most enigmatic man in history. Muslims emulate their prophet. Only by understanding him can we know what makes them tick, and predict these most unpredictable people.

Book excerpt: Despite their distinct theological differences, Shi'a and Sunni Muslims, followers of the two main branches of Islam, share a number of core beliefs including an allegiance to and love for the Prophet Muhammad and members of his family. For Shi'a Muslims, reverence for the Prophet and allegiance to his household (Ahl al-bayt, 'People of the House'), comprising his immediate family and their descendants, constitutes an essential principle of belief that has directly impacted how Shi'i artists, rulers, patrons and ritual participants have conveyed their love and loyalty through material culture and religious ritual. The 22 essays in this volume, richly illustrated with over 200 colored images, present a diversity of beliefs and practices expressed through the arts, architecture, material culture and ritual that spans Shi'i history from the tenth century to the present day. With contributions from experts in the fields of anthropology, religious studies, art and architectural history, numismatics, film studies and contemporary art, the book also calls attention to the global diversity of the artistic and devotional expressions of Shi'a Muslims from across Trinidad, Senegal, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, India and China. Additionally, some essays draw upon important female Shi'i figures and female ritual practices and many chapters underscore the theme of love for the Ahl al-bayt beyond Sunni and Shi'i demarcations. This work contributes to a growing body of scholarship dedicated to the religious arts and rituals of Shi'a Muslims around the world.
