This book was released on 1961 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been made of a method for controlling the trajectory of a high-drag low-lift entry vehicle to a desired longitude and latitude on the surface of a rotating earth. By use of this control technique the vehicle can be guided to the desired point when the present position and heading of the vehicle are known and the desired longitude and latitude are specified. The present study makes use of a single reference trajectory and an estimate of the lift and side-force capabilities of the vehicle. This information is stored in a control-logic system and used with linear control equations to guide the vehicle to the desired destination. Results are presented of a number of trajectory studies which describe the operation of the control system and illustrate its ability to control the vehicle trajectory to the desired landing area.

Download or read book Guidance and Control During Direct-descent Parabolic Reentry written by Edwin C. Foudriat and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The results of studies of four reentry guidance and control techniques for the energy management of vehicles returning to the earth at escape speeds are compared in this paper. The reentry trajectories are constrained to those of direct descent, that is, where the vehicle does not leave that portion of the atmosphere where useful aerodynamic forces are available after its initial entry. The guidance techniques compared are (1) a piloted simulator study reference trajectory techniques (2) An automatic controller using reference trajectory techniques (3) A predictor system employing linear prediction (perturbation) techniques and (4) A repetitive prediction system employing rapid-time computer techniques."--P. 1.

Book Synopsis Guidance and Control by : Robert Roberson
Download or read book Guidance and Control written by Robert Roberson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guidance and Control focuses on space guidance models and behavior control techniques needed in space missions. Divided into eight parts with 30 chapters, the book contains the literature of authors who have conducted extensive research on factors affecting space missions. The concerns include ascent from Earth to an orbit requiring navigation as well as descent to Earth or the moon; the system aspects of inertial navigation; and developments in modern control theory and attitude control. The text looks at experiments on the launch of space missions and the different mathematical techniques used to measure the movement of a variable-mass vehicle. The selection also notes the processes and techniques involved in keeping satellites in compatible orbits; the influence of calculus of perturbations as applied to lunar mission analysis; and tracking of space vehicles through satellites and radar. The book also presents guidance systems for soft lunar landing and the longitudinal control of a lifting vehicle entering a planetary atmosphere. Other concerns include the application of sideband folding techniques to navigation satellite system; Damping an inertial navigation system; and application of multiple inertial system in navigation. The text ends by highlighting the use of gyroscopes in space navigation and infrared navigation sensors in space vehicles and how solar radiation affects pressure on satellite attitude control. The book is valuable for readers interested in studying the factors involved in space missions.

Book excerpt: During the last decade, a rapid growth of knowledge in the field of re-entry and planetary entry has resulted in many significant advances useful to the student, engineer and scientist. The purpose of offering this course is to make available to them these recent significant advances in physics and technology. Accordingly, this course is organized into five parts: Part 1, Entry Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Physics and Radiation; Part 2, Entry Abla tion and Heat Transfer; Part 3, Entry Experimentation; Part 4, Entry Concepts and Technology; and Part 5, Advanced Entry Programs. It is written in such a way so that it may easily be adopted by other universities as a textbook for a two semesters senior or graduate course on the sub ject. In addition to the undersigned who served as the course instructor and wrote Chapters, 1, 2, 3 and 4, guest lecturers included: Prof. FRANKLIN K. MOORE who wrote Chapter 5 "Entry Radiative Transfer," Prof. SHIH-I PAI who wrote Chapter 6 "Entry Radiation-Magnetogasdy namics," Dr. CARL GAZLEY, J r. who wrote Chapter 7 "Entry Deaccelera [ion and Mass Change of an Ablating Body," Dr. SINCLAIRE M. SCALA who wrote Chapter 8 "Entry Heat Transfer and Material Response," Mr.

Book excerpt: Guidance and Control - II focuses on the techniques and processes involved relative to the control of rockets, missiles, and other space vehicles. Divided into seven parts with 36 chapters, the book focuses first on active and passive control for space vehicles; advances in attitude control; the stabilization of earth satellites; and the theoretical and practical considerations of solar pressure attitude control for interplanetary space vehicles. The compilation also notes the use of gyrostabilizers on satellites, including the use of two-pulse attitude control and bank angle control for an asymmetric spinning satellite. Experiments on gyro rotor imbalance on a stable platform and various navigation and guidance systems are also presented. The book also looks at the use of sensors, the stellar techniques for interplanetary flights, and control of space vehicles. The text also gives emphasis on various mathematical equations used to measure fuel optimization in orbital rendezvous. Guidance techniques in lunar landing are also discussed. The compilation is important for readers interested in studying the methods, principles, and processes involved in the control of space vehicles.
